This song and Don's rendition of it got the longest standing ovation in Grand Old Opry's history, I read somewhere. I believe it. This song is timeless and the adjective "great" doesn't come close to doing it justice. Don Gibson's music will live on forever.
Don wrote this song and and made a hit but Faron Young also recorded this song and his recording also was a big hit. Thanks for watching and your informative comment.
There must be 16 people who dont know crap in life when it comes music, man whay a mistake to thumbs down don gibson, seen him in south carolina love ya and miss ya don,
When the Don Gibson hit Sea of Heartbreak was released in the UK I was in my early teens and I was hooked, loved the song, the voice, and the music. Don was one of the main reasons I became a dedicated Country music fan. Many thanks for sharing this one.
A true legend of country music, never knew how great Don was til I seen him in concert in south Carolina in 1989, glad I still got my 8 tracks of him, god bless ya don!
I never saw one of his live shows and he lived only about 40 miles from my town. There is a Don Gibson theater in his home town but I have never visited. I agree, Don was a great entertainer.
in 3eeks I'll be 68 too Darlene..!.thanks for posting this fab video. My partner and I cover this song...its so nice to harmonise...call ourselves Blue Heaven(no nothing online...as yet)god bless you
One of the great songs Done Gibson gave us. Tommy McLain of the Boogie Kings from South Louisiana sold ten million copies and began his solo career off this song. He was an admirer of Don't Gibson.
The Extremely high caliber version of Don's "Sweet Dreams" done by Patsy Cline, was and is, in every juke box in America...., but was equally matched as an instrumental by Roy Buchanan. i guess that you can say it was one of the best songs ever written.
Thanks for watching my video post and you nice comment. I will try to find Roy Buchanan's instrumental. Patsy always did a great job on her songs and had a terrific voice.

1.000.000 thanks for this upload. Friendly to you, Jo Luttringer (bad but professional !) musician -leads guitar- from 1960 and still (My "teachers" are Grady Martin, Pete Wade, Jimmy Capps, Harold Bradley, Jerry Kenney...)
This is the last song that Patsy Cline ever recorded. If ever her voice sounded haunting, it was then. A few words were changed for her version, and it was well done (1963). Don Gibson and Patsy Cline were both superb.
Hello Bill ! I renew my thanks for this upload. The lead guitar player was in Frankfurt (Germany) with Don (1979 or 1980). I like the left hand "work" (for chords) by Don. I hope your are well. Friendly wishes, dear Bill. JO
Bill, I live in shelby. where are you? The old State theater is now the Don Gibson Theater and some great artists perform there. a couple blocks away is the Earl Scruggs Museum. Those two music legends came from this little town, though Earl would be quick to say he was from Flint Hill. Don is buried in Sunset Cemetery.
+dakotabluelightning I live in Hickory. I wasn't sure if Don was from Shelby or Gastonia. Thanks for the info. Didn't know Earl Scruggs was also from Shelby or had a museum there. I've never heard of Flint Hill.
This wasn't the last song Patsy recorded.....though it was one of the last songs she sang in public (at the benefit concert for DJ "Cactus" Jack Call. Her set included "She's Got You," "Heartaches," "Am I a Fool," "Sweet Dreams," "Crazy," "I Fall to Pieces" and "I'll Sail My Ship Alone."
It's worth hearing, but there are Patsy imitators. One place to hear Patsy's actual voice, with Jessica Lange's lip-synching, is the youtube version by lovinthe 80s1. It's called Patsy Cline Sweet Dreams, from the movie Sweet Dreams (Jessica Lange and Ed Harris). Many singers have covered this song, but I always want to return to her version.

Don Gibson WROTE IT. How is a song for woman? It is a man's song. It's about a man not being able to marry the girl he loves. Patsy over-emotes, but Don gives it more heartfelt approach!

This was and is the only Country record I have ever bought, in the 60's. Just a great song.
Thanks for your comment Ronald and also for watching my video.
Don Gibson your songs are fantastic 😀 and wonderful your songs will always be remembered thanks again
A most underrated singer and song writer. Love all of his many songs!!
He surely was the most underrated singer song writer of all time and one if not the best one
@@junelesher2794 I totally agree!!! Jim Farrell

Isn't that an incredible song?! That was the song that made me fall in love with Don Gibson. 🎼🖤

Thanks for watching.
Man, what a sweet voice. Great band, too.
my favorite song by don, seen him in south carolina
Great entertainer I caught a couple of his live shows in the early 70s
I never saw one of his live shows and he lived only about 40 miles from my town. There is a Don Gibson theater in his home town but I have never visited. I agree, Don was a great entertainer.
Fantastic singer, listening to him at 68 brings back good memories.

Still brings back wonderful memories at 80.

Thanks for the info about Patsy. I as well as others never knew that. Makes me want to hear her version again now.
Thanks for satisfying my curiosity and also for checking out my posting of Don.
Like a lot of musicians he hit pay dirt in Knoxville. Wrote some of his best songs there prior to coming to Nashville.

You're welcome Jo. Thanks for your comment. Best of luck to you. I admire (envy) anyone that can play a guitar.

Why can't I forget the past start loving someone new
I should know you'd never wear my name
I should hate you the whole night through
I guess a guy writes a song he sort of knows how it was supposed to sound?
Terry who on the harmonica? I think his name is Terry MacMillan, but he may have a different stage name.
Thanks for your update AGibsonJ. Your name makes me wonder if you are related to Don somehow.
You're welcome. And thanks.
Don Gibson just the greatest and so in a small class of gifted singer song writers not to mention one great rhythm guitarists ever. RIP
+MrWeedpatch Thanks for watching and your comment. Have a nice day.
anyone know what year this was made? mid 80's?
1:00
I like his version BETTER than Patsy Cline! Why doesnt he get credit for writing the song? Because he wasn't female and pretty?
Bill Gibbs, sr
thank you! But I wish I had half the talent of Mister Don Gibson and all the country legends. God Bless.
I dont agree.. its a song for women in my eyes and Partty"s (much more) dramatic, sensitive and haert aching version is unsurpassable
Don Gibson WROTE IT. How is a song for woman? It is a man's song. It's about a man not being able to marry the girl he loves. Patsy over-emotes, but Don gives it more heartfelt approach!
She caterwauls!
He got his fame for writing this when it went gold and then platinum, the writer gets those records not who made it famous

Don is the composer....a wonderful work of art..but Patsy!s unforgettable dramatic performance is missing
Thanks for watching my video of Don performing his song anyway and also sharing your thoughts.
