Mellencamp and everyone in his band have more talent than anyone on the stage for this performance. They did not even have the ability to cover the entire song.
She has a habit of "borrowing" songs. She did it with "All Fired Up" . Was written by Australian Kerryn Tolhurst and recorded originally by The Rattling Sabres (it's on UA-cam) she took it changed the lyrics and the rest as they say..
Pat is a great artist but I wonder what she really is like as an artist...kinda like Rod Stewart in a way in that she interprets songs. Seriously can never peg her influences...opera singer gone rock...I wonder if a more artistic producer could've drawn here true essence out...80s good and bad
Mellencamp did this better in all the ways. Benatar lacks the pure soul Cougar had, the guitar has so much power and the solos fit in so well with the riffs. Sure Benatar got the song for John on the charts but Benatar version sounds like generic rock being put out from the 70s while Mellencamp’s is truly a unique rock masterpiece, it’s a shame this song doesn’t get any real airplay from what I’ve heard. And with her being from Brooklyn I don’t think she’ll understand watching tv from the hole she calls home.
My high school in 1981 had three teenage Ladies who emulated The Pat Benatar look. Charlene Ballou had her mannerisms, style, and dress. Tracy Conn had her physique, attitude and looks. However, Sharon Bensing had the COMPLETE AND TOTAL PACKAGE and she was my best female friend! ;-}} YOOUUZZAA!
She's So Great❤
If anyone was to cover this song thank god it was Pat Benatar.
I’ve never heard her version of this. Love it.
I love Par Benetar.God bless her,she's great.
I second that for bless her 😀😀😀😀
Good cover. Nice Power Pop style to it.
Technically not a cover as Mellencamp had not recorded it before Pat did. He took the money he earned off this version to record his first record.
High school nice memories
Absolutely wonderful. Fantastic quality vid!! Thank you soooo much!!
Tasty solo from Spyder!
Un tema que recordaba de aquella época genial, saludos desde Chile
GREAT ARTIST GREAT SONG I LOVET
Heard a piece of this song in a compilation vid of music of1980 yesterday. Ths must be the first time I heard it since 1980 when I was 9.

O really enjoy you Pat !
Rock N´Roll puro.
Thank you !!
This was one lady who could really rock!!!
Had heard her version before I knew it was a John Cougar’s just like Wuthering Heights being a Kate Bush song way back in 1981
When you're going to the gym after work and don't want to have to change.
Tremendo cover de Jhon Cougar

Through MINE eyes.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
amazing cover way better than the cougar original
Wrong you are. This version is great but it does not touch Mellencamp's ability.
No
Both are great, just enough different to each hold their own...
@@howardwhite1507 that a good point.

I wish all these great singers didn't have to mime all the time.
Is this the country version?
John cougar owns this song!
I like both versions!
Mellencamp wrote it

It's good but Cougar Mellencamp's is better.
Never cared for his version. I know he wrote it.
sorry it just has not held up like John's
Didn't she kill her John's
you are kidding, right?
About what?
Гурченко??? 🙄
sounds nothing like john cougar my word.
Thank God for that.
@@jmjennings59 I know right
Good but John's blows this out of the water!

Ooof. Lip syncing, sacrilege! HARD PASS,
They did not lip sync TopPop they just do not have the video lined up with the audio.
Pat Benatar sucks. This is a great song though. I just found out she covered it. It's a John Cougar song.
RUDE!
THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LISTEN TO TOO MUCH DURAN DURAN AND PLAY SONIC ALL THE TIME
You suck.

😂 Just like in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”!
John Cougar murdered her version. Sorry, boys and girls
