    This is an actual phenomenon and there are scientific papers written on it. That being said, as someone who both performed this test and had it performed on me, it doesn't work on everyone, and the strength of the illusion varies from person to person. And I remember the illusion immediately breaking as soon as I moved any part of my hidden hand.
    It's hard for me to believe the illusion held strong even when the woman's finger was lifted under the flame. The hand positioning being as similar as possible to the fake hand is an important part of this test.

      phantom = ghost = non-real. they both feel pain that isn't 'real'. to be specific, both the test subjects and amputees feel pain that originate and is generated from the brain, not the skin of the arm. if we hook the real hands to machine to detect nerve signalling towards the brain, we will find none.

    The power of BS might be a play somewhat but this is science as well. It's a neuropsychological phenomenon that contributes to phantom limb syndrome. The human brain does not like discontinuity and is constantly trying to fill in the blanks as a protective measure. So we see faces in things that don't have them, jerk away from a hot stove before we actually register the burn, and fill in the gap for sensations. (There's more to it than that but you get the gist)

    • @rebeccab1064
      @rebeccab1064 3 роки тому +6

      I agree with most of these. Jerking away from a hot stove, however, is a physiological phenomenon which I don't think fits - the brain isn't involved in the response. Skin receptors send a signal to the spinal cord/CNS, and that reacts in a reflex arc before pain signals ever reach the brain.

    I find it hard to believe. The illusion can only go so far. If your real hand is getting burned, real nerve damage and cells dying is accumulating. There's no way that can be ignored by the brain.
    Same thing if a finger was chopped or a bone bent in an unholy way, the damage would send signals and the illusion would break as the pain is inescapable

    The rubber hand test shows that the mind works on an imaginary plane, we are imaginary.
    Here the mind does not switch from a physical circuit, nerves, tissue, skin, to a fictitious circuit - the rubber hand, but switches from one imaginary circuit to another, equally imaginary.
    Remember that the mind does not see the hand, vision takes place in the mind, not in the eye.
    Everything the mind decodes is the fruit of software, that is, reality is like a program - a computer game.
    🙃

    There is science going on here, the science of the mind and the power of the mind to transcend physical reality quite easily with a simple trick. The brain does incredible things. This is just another example although goofy showing we can overcome or convince ourselves of anything
