thanks very delicate operation presetting the gear housing was genius! what was interesting was centering the cables. all that you need to do is make sure the aluminum tubes fit snug into the aluminum rails, feed both the cable ends together (on top of each other) on both sides (left and right rails)make sure the sliding cable mechanism with the spring loaded pin is on top of plain cable, the tubes will slide into rails about a quarter of an inch, now secure the rails (4 screws) on each side, now go back to center mount and evenly as you can properly push the cables into center cable mount around the gear, push tush tubes in, snap metal clip over gear, snap metal plate in, now delicately secure the plastic covers with the screws or get screwed LOL! (centered)
69 hand crank rare one off dealer sales campaign (west coast) had the hand crank sunroof traced it back to the place that painted over it it still works great great vidio!!! ty
These are such a pain to work on and there are no more shops that will do the work. One shop in Long Beach said they would do it all. When I picked it up he told me not to open it. I had an appointment in Orange County and they stopped working on them. I'm getting my headliner done and need to get this fixed!!!!! I did this all myself in 1983 and I did a good job. Then in 2014 I tried again and nothing worked with all new parts from Wolfsburg West. That gear keeps stripping or skipping.
great feel free to watch it again when you are taking it apart. and subscribe to see more videos. I am doing another sunroof car complete ground up starting right now and working more toward the end of the year. Posting video all the way through.
Yea mine too. And all the parts were missing. I spent a week trying to figure it out. Just be sure not to force it because you will stretch the cables.
I bought a new cable for the right side an the slider is super hard to move, I clean the track an lubed it but slider is super hard to move. Any ideas?
At 2:27, you show a "spacer puck for the slider, would you know the dimensions? looks like I have to make a couple, none are available anywhere that I can find.
I’ll be attempting this on my 71 standard beetle when weather gets better
