From personal experience, i think pets can actually save someone whos been severely abused from turning violent towards the world. My family was abusive to the point i should have died several times so i grew up not trusting anyone. I think i would have turned out a much more angry, volitle person had i never felt the unconditional love a pet can give. I remember it literally made me rethink the world...i was like ok this animal was kind to me so that means not everyone is mean...who else is kind? Before that, i literally thought everything and everyone was evil just like my family because i had no proof otherwise. This newfound proof forced me to hold mack my rage in fear if i didnt id one day mistake a good soul for the enemy. I truly believe had i never felt unconditional love, i wpuldve gotten straight on a hellbent path to violence.
So glad you found a way out of that dysfunctional family. How sad that is. But how wonderful you found a world of animals. I had a similar experience. Animals are your best friends.

What ah always love to watch is interspecies friendships. It always brings a tear to my eye
Lovely story. Right about animals and therapy. Taking an interest in nature generally can be a big plus to overcoming anxiety problems. You don't have to have a pet to do this. A visit to a park or a walk in the woods can work wonders. Watching bees visiting flowers can be quite fulfilling.

Ducks do make great pets! I had a couple of Mallards when I was a little kid. Taking baths with them was the best part because they would get excited and flap their wings throwing water all over the bathroom. My Mom would laugh and laugh.
