    It is shame that this game is not given a chance. It is bashed so horribly and called mindless and skilless. Then these same reviewers then bitch about the difficulty spike at certain areas, and say the game is cheap and unfair. Give a 2 out of 10 and everyone jumps on the "lol Sonic games even suck if they are fighters" bandwagon.
    The only flaws about this game for me is that:
    1. No training mode.
    2. Can't casually VS CPUs if you want.
    3. Would like slightly bigger movesets.
    4. Honey the Cat is a "secret character" so I can't use my main freely online...
    That is it!
    I would love to see an advance guide, combo guide or character analysis someday.
    Thank you. Great tutorial.

      Yeah shame everyone insists on playing this game like they've never touched a controller before, game has a lot of depth that goes unknown due to the relevancy of the idiots who reviewed it.
      I played this competitively about 2 to 3 years ago and still get very nostalgic about it, it was refreshing to play a game that was so untouched that everyone was discovering new things and constantly getting better, mechanics are very unique and the game was intense yet accessible.
      I wish this game would get a faithful modern successor that builds on what the first established, I wouldn't really be interested in a Sonic fighter that aims to plays like a skin of something else.

      Shaolin Turtle
      I 100% agree with you.

    • @SRUFUS3D
      @SRUFUS3D 7 років тому

      Shaolin Turtle Btw quick question.
      Is Honey the Cat viable? She is my main along with Knuckles and my secondaries are Sonic and probably Amy (shes fun).

    • @TurtleTitan03
      @TurtleTitan03 7 років тому +3

      Honey was definitely viable, She's kinda like a less OP version of Knuckles, with a few techniques from Amy mixed in, she doesn't get momentum off of strafe jabs like Knux does, and she has no spindash which makes her lot less dangerous in the air, Air spindashes can be deadly if used well.
      For some reason she has slightly heavier gravity than most fighters, so short hops can be a bit more effective for evading and punishing grabs, her unique sense of gravity can make it harder for her to properly utilize Up teching though.
      My personal tier list would look something like this
      SSS(Banned): Dr.Eggman, Metal Sonic
      S: Knuckles
      A: Tails, Sonic, Honey
      B: Bean, Espio, Fang
      C: Amy, Bark
      My mains were Knuckles and Amy, but I played everyone.

    • @SRUFUS3D
      @SRUFUS3D 7 років тому

      Shaolin Turtle Fair enough great to hear.
      I always thought it weird that she was heavier tbh. I like her dash moves way more, but the lack of a spin dash especially in the air really hurts her.
      Wait doesn't get the same momentum? You mean like follow ups?

    Hey, I Don't know if you're going to see this comment considering how old this video is, but I have been a lifelong Sonic and picked up Sonic the Fighters again for the first time in years. I am enamored with how charming it is. This video though is seriously amazing. You put so much work into it and made this the most digestible fighting game tutorial I have seen. I feel like while I understood StF, I didn't fully understand the meta game and how a lot of the mechanics worked. I usually main Sonic, so these techniques will really help me out of my habit of just spamming his Down, Down, Punch spin attack. I hope you see this because this is a fantastic video and I'm impressed at how well you conveyed everything! Thank you!

    Amazing tutorial. This is something that everyone who rejected this game needs to see. And now that I've seen it, I need to go buy the PS3 version so I can actually play it with other people.
    I would love to see more guides but hey, it's your call. I don't want to pressure you. :)

    This is so complete, still have some questiona tho:
    What are the diferences between the normal grab and the universal back+grab? Not refering to character specific command grabs
    You ever considsr doing a character guide detailing all moves and proprieties?

    A remake of this game would be great: they don't need to touch the visuals, the slapstick animations and bright colours still hold up really well imo. Instead, they should tighten up the gameplay: I think adding a way to regain barriers, sort of like the soul charge from Tekken, would fit in pretty well.

    When I Google "Sonic the Fighters Tier List," I get exactly one result. Have you ever considered creating a tier list and explaining your reasoning? I don't know if you guys allow Honey the Cat in tournaments, but could you also include her? I didn't know she was even a thing before today, and I think it's kind of a cool nod to one of Sega's other fighting games.

    • @Cronnicossy
      @Cronnicossy  6 років тому +4

      I had one in the description. I did recently update it. There was a thread on the STF forums about it, but I guess maybe one day I could make a short video explaining it. I talk about it briefly in the desc.
      Basically, Barks lowest because he can't crouch (can't evade grabs).
      Knuckles and Tails are high because Dodge-> P -> K being so good.
      Knuckles more so due to how easily he can break sheilds (Dodge -> P P P).
      Any character can win though. Choices are based on the player. I've used Amy in tons of matches and she can do as well as a knuckles if you know your opponent well enough. It's all about adaption.
      I think the tier list in the description now is the best accuracy its gonna get.

    Tutorial is very well done, actually better than what I planed to mention in my tutorial.
    Plus you have a crash plush and a better arcade stick so your video wins lol XD.
    Also at 0:43 thats the same controler I've been useing two weeks before I got STF online.
    I hope this video increases the STF community more often.
    Also I still teach newcomers and even other veterans new things to.
    If I can afford a HD capture device I'll start demonstrateing all characters, will need some tips for bean.

    Holy snap this is a very good indepth tutorial on STF.
    I was really happy that this week the community has been booming with veteran players comeing back with awesome comeback.
    Have to say there are no infinite combos, the best I can do was I think with Fang, Knuckles and Bark up to about 70% of combo damage (thats if the opponent does air recovers.
    For fang there is sort of an infinite but the player must stay down on the floor while fang spams his jumping air gun it rarely happens.

    Hey man nice informative video about this game. Much respect. I used to play this all the time alone because others really hated the game. Sadly I don't have anything to play this game at all now due to my Sonic Gems being completely unplayable nor do I use the 360 to play with others. Still, great vid.

    Man, I hope they're more people coming in and going in depth in this game. I know it's been 3 years since it ported to the Xbox 360 and PS3, but I find this game so fascinating at times because of how easily you can die at any moment. I know it sounds weird, but I believe that the damage ratio in this game allows for more strategic play. The easier you can die means you're going to be more focused on what you can do to turn the tide. That's why I personally want to make this game grow; the more in-depth play means more enjoyable matches. I apologize for going on about how I want this game to grow; it'll probably won't happen anytime soon.

    Played this game a few years ago just got the fun of it and only now started looking into it as a competitive game.
    Thanks for these vids, they really help! I don’t think I can convince many people to play, but hopefully I can convince some friends to play along and learn more about the game with me.
    It would be great to get a small community up and running, maybe setup some kind of netplay if possible.
    I think I’ll have better look asking some Smash friends in the region, a lot of mechanics seem to mesh pretty well with the way they understand the game.
    The ketchup mechanic is very similar to rage too, and although you can’t be forced off the stage like in a platform fighter, there are other mechanics like hyper mode and timeout that can change up the flow of gameplay so it’s not just a traditional 2D fighter
    Love it!

      Oh whoops, I thought these were comments on my "Why StF Can be Competitive" video. You meant Combo's for me to teach you. oops. Well in all honesty there isn't much. Just juggle away, but if the opponents Tech any combo ends anyways, so. StF has no combo's technically. Hyper Mode is your best bet, but I encourage you to be creative with it-- instead of following a guide. (Or just watch my other StF vids and take notes).
