Hi Geoff Well this video certainly brings back memories...I used to go to New Brighton when I was a child and Im 75 now...Did you know that New Brighton used to have 2 fairgrounds...One outdoors and the more famous Indoor Fairground with its own roller coaster inside...Just the job when it was raining...The Fish and Chips looked nice so 8 was a reasonable score....Do you remember the boat The Royal Iris that used to go from Liverpool to Birkenhead Hamilton Square and we would sometimes get the boat from Birkenhead to New Brighton just for a change from going in the car...I better shut up.....Bye for now looking forward to the next one...Keep Smiling

Yum yum I love fish and chips at the seaside. Be careful about being in that hot sun though, I spent years sunbathing in Spain and Thailand and now I'm paying the price.

Geoff, the tower was 567 ft in height which is about 173 meters. On 7 September 1909, a lady and her 12 year old daughter were left at the top of the tower as they missed the last lift of the night . They had to spend the night at the top of the tower and were discovered the next morning.
Even growing up in Warrington never made in to New Brighton. Dad from Liverpool as well. Went Blackpool, Rhyl and parents recently lived in Llandudno so went those more. My cousins only live 10 minutes from there so after this vlog of yours showing off the place I will have to go and have a mooch, thanks. It's no Thailand though lol 😉🇹🇭
£6 tops, you can get fish & chips (cod) mushy peas & gravy at sharples in Pattaya (Thailand) for around £6.50 and they look and I dare say taste everybit as good as these. Britain is truly the third world country now ☺️☺️

I plan on visiting soon from Liverpool Lime st direct to New Brighton (25 mins) Sod driving and parking though guys, take the train, less stress. xx About the Fish & Chips, an average couple can easily share one between them and costs a lot less. The size of the portions are pretty hefty. xx

There are tunnels below the Palace building where you got the Ice Cream from. There is a video of them on you tube, they were used in WW2. Fascinating! How's about that then!? 😀
Its not a castle as you said Geoff its a fort. It was used during the war as an observation/look-out point to stop German subs and boats getting to Birkenhead & Liverpool. You used to be able to visit and see the operations rooms set up. Over at the arcade, in a side entrance, you go down underneath where there was a bar in the 60s. You can still see the remainder of it now. Also there was a tour you could go on down there as it has a fascinating history. There was an air raid shelter down there, but what the people didnt know that also down there with them was a secret munitions factory. They were making bombs and shells etc. When the announcement came ending the war, everyone just left and the machinery was left down there. Further along the beach past the Floral Pavillion Theatre is a sculpture of a dog. It marks the fact that the first guide dogs came from New Brighton. Further along on the beach is The Black Pearl. A pirate ship built from driftwood. You can stand on it. Across the road is a lovely park. It is a bit of a steep climb up if you arent very mobile. Amongst the flowers and trees are little sculptures made of natural things, and fairy houses. There is a band stand that has entertainment on certain days, and a lovely cafe serving drinks, snacks, cake etc and do a wonderful afternoon tea. At the entrance from the prom are exercise equipment free to use. The smuggling tunnels that came out in the hills have been boarded up for safety reasons. There is a brilliant cafe at the end of the arcade row. Does home cooked food. Amazing breakfasts and great Sunday roast and a lovely frothy coffee. They do brilliant take out too. Their butties are lovely. The rock shop also sells buckets and spades and crabbing kits. Very popular in the marina. I think the old boating lake for model boats is still there. Large areas of green to have picnics. A big cinema, plenty of eateries, a Morrisons if you want to do your own meals. Not sure if tennis courts still overlook the prom. Alan missed out on fantastic Ice Cream. If you go to Cafe Creme, they have so many flavours, and they make it on the premises Hope this helps x

If you ever get to the North East Coast Geoff we've some great fish and chip shop's. Redcar has The Little Chip l got a small cod chips and scraps for £6.00....and it was great... it's one of England's oldest fish shops been there well over 100 years .

Best fish and chips in Wallasey at The Mediteranean Sea there by a mile. They don't do a huge menu but what they do they do well. Don't forget they have tables as well.

Free all day on the front, but couldn’t get a space near where we were filming. Further down the front you could park for free easily, but too far for me to walk after my surgery. All good stuff tho. 👍

Our local in the Midlands does small fish and chips with a pot of curry or peas and it's just gone up from £4.70 to a fiver. It's a really clean shop and they sell everything. There's a cheaper one up the road that does the same for about £4.50 but the quality varies there, they also do a small kebab meat and chips in a tray that went up last year from £1.00 to £1.50. I don't eat it but have seen other people buy it and there's just loads of meat in it. Funnily if you have the same meat in a pitta bread with a bit of salad it goes up to 4 quid. They do bigger meat and chips in a tray that would be just too much to eat. They're also very clean and sell everything. Most chip shops are a massive ripoff.
Wow so cheap , up here in aberdeen where they catch the fish were about £11 plus for fish n chips and £2.50 each for curry and peas . Then £1.50 for sorts . So £30 plus

There was an air raid shelter down there, but what the people didnt know that also down there with them was a secret munitions factory. They were making bombs and shells etc. When the announcement came ending the war, everyone just left and the machinery was left down there. Further along the beach past the Floral Pavillion Theatre is a sculpture of a dog. It marks the fact that the first guide dogs came from New Brighton. Further along on the beach is The Black Pearl. A pirate ship built from driftwood. You can stand on it. Across the road is a lovely park. It is a bit of a steep climb up if you arent very mobile. Amongst the flowers and trees are little sculptures made of natural things, and fairy houses. There is a band stand that has entertainment on certain days, and a lovely cafe serving drinks, snacks, cake etc and do a wonderful afternoon tea. At the entrance from the prom are exercise equipment free to use. The smuggling tunnels that came out in the hills have been boarded up for safety reasons. There is a brilliant cafe at the end of the arcade row. Does home cooked food. Amazing breakfasts and great Sunday roast and a lovely frothy coffee. They do brilliant take out too. Their butties are lovely. The rock shop also sells buckets and spades and crabbing kits. Very popular in the marina. I think the old boating lake for model boats is still there. Large areas of green to have picnics. A big cinema, plenty of eateries, a Morrisons if you want to do your own meals. Not sure if tennis courts still overlook the prom. Alan missed out on fantastic Ice Cream. If you go to Cafe Creme, they have so many flavours, and they make it on the premises Hope this helps x

If you ever get to the North East Coast Geoff we've some great fish and chip shop's. Redcar has The Little Chip l got a small cod chips and scraps for £6.00....and it was great... it's one of England's oldest fish shops been there well over 100 years .

@@geoffcarter On the same stretch Geoff just a couple of miles apart on the rail link you've got Redcar, Marske by the Sea and Saltburn which is a beautiful Victorian seaside resort, with a pier and fenecular carriage to take you down the cliff.
We use to get the ferry over and walk from Seacombe to New Brighton and spend the day there then walk back and get the ferry back over Boss days Geoff lad 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Best fish and chips in Wallasey at The Mediteranean Sea there by a mile. They don't do a huge menu but what they do they do well. Don't forget they have tables as well.

My local chippy does a fish dinner. Fair size fish, chip, peas and gravy or curry £6.80. And it’s nice.
Our local in the Midlands does small fish and chips with a pot of curry or peas and it's just gone up from £4.70 to a fiver. It's a really clean shop and they sell everything. There's a cheaper one up the road that does the same for about £4.50 but the quality varies there, they also do a small kebab meat and chips in a tray that went up last year from £1.00 to £1.50. I don't eat it but have seen other people buy it and there's just loads of meat in it. Funnily if you have the same meat in a pitta bread with a bit of salad it goes up to 4 quid. They do bigger meat and chips in a tray that would be just too much to eat. They're also very clean and sell everything. Most chip shops are a massive ripoff.

Nice one Geoff , the price of take away grub has rocketed everywhere but I was in Blackpool over the May bank holiday and I had a large haddock chips and mushy peas for £ 6.50 and it was real tasty , there's a lot of chip shops in Blackpool so there's a lot of competition and it keeps the prices down.....

The New Brighton Tower was taller than Blackpool Tower at 621 feet high. It was built in 1898 and stood within the Tower Buildings complex. It had been entirely dismantled by the end of 1921.
