I love auburn. Think the biggest difference was Birmingham and Huntsville having more to offer their suburbs. What you don’t get in the suburbs, you get from the city. Mostly nightlife and unique food options in Birmigham.

Some of these channels that claim AL is cheap to live in are 2 yrs old or more. Living in AL is getting more expensive.
Mt. Brook is the most expensive Bham suburb there is and always has been. To live in Mt. Brook you need to make $250K+ a year just to be able to afford the homes and HOA fees. AL major cities and suburbs are not cheap to live in anymore. I grew up in Bham, lived there until 2020. Now I live elsewhere in the Deep South, wont say where, I like it, dont want it ruined, and its no longer cheaper to live in either.
Been in the Madison/Huntsville since 97. Not sure how this list was assembled but outside of Nashville, Huntsville is basically the biggest booming city in the southeast. Swing and miss on metro Birmingham as well…hello Mountain Brook. And using downtown Birmingham as a perk would be high on a list if you were looking to get robbed, or into the sound of gunfire.
