- On Tuesday, February 2, 2016, Pam Harvit presented “History of a Loudon Heights Garden Club and Neighborhood-Revisited” in the Archives and History Library of the Culture Center in Charleston.
She discussed the history of the club, beginning in the year 1929, as well as the neighborhoods it encompasses within the Loudon Heights area. The homes of the 12 charter members which include the Laidley, Venable, Kay and Jackson families were highlighted, along with how those members influenced not only local and state, but also national gardening practices.
The Loudon Heights Company was chartered on July 18, 1922 by G.H. Caperton, C.P, Myers, William Ohley, Edward Gephart and C. McCoy. The Loudon Heights Garden Club originated in 1929 and became federated in 1932. It remains a vital component of the neighborhood today.
