Reedy, I just completed this project for a gym for mostly Parkinson's Disease (PD) patients. It is organized under the organization "Rock Steady Boxing", our gym is located in Bowling Green, KY. Our members have serious physical limitations, but find boxing a great option for improving their overall physical health and their fine motor, balance and muscle control issues that PD brings. Additionally, I added a kick bar 4" from the floor, but it is identical to the spar bar. For anyone building this project, read carefully Reedy's directions. My version ended up very much like yours, except I used a T-fitting instead of a Cross fitting. The key issue is choosing a 1/2" x 6 ft mast so that it will fit inside the 25mmx47mmx12mm ball bearings. I wasn't a plumber so I didn't know that PVC and iron pipe sizes refer to the ID of the pipe that fits INSIDE the connector. I also used a 1 1/2" PVC pipe and T fitting. I was also able to find a 1 1/2" x 1/2" wall x 6' pipe insulation stick that fits almost perfectly around the bar PVC, with only a small gap. The insulation stick is also pre-cut with one slice down the center and adhesive on each side. You'll need to seek out a good plumbing supplier to find one, my cost was around $6. My other change was I found a 6" diameter medicine ball that weighed 6 lbs for my counter balance. I also used a rubber toilet plunger that also screwed onto the 1/2" mast which I further secured with a hose clamp. Our gym members are so happy with the spar bar I will be adding a 5' version {for shorter boxers) with a second bar at a height for our wheelchair members. Yes, some of our PD patients are confined to a wheelchair, but they still come in and hit the heavy bag, lowered speed bag and whip the same 50 lb battle ropes I do. They are such an inspiration to all of us non-confined boxers. Thank you Reedy, for taking the time to produce these series of videos. Our new spar bar will be a tremendous help to all of our members suffering from Parkinson's Disease and battling its effects at our boxing gym.
I purchased both the medium ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxfh2XUOHWYHKQYOvSq2gZ6PyCmVkTFGWz and small speed bags from Meister. I'm very glad I got both as the workout is quite different from the two. The small is fantastic for getting your speed built up once familiar with your striking. The medium bag provides a considerable amount more resistance building more strength in your punches. I highly recommend both sizes. Some people have expressed concern over the latex bladder leaking down more frequently than the traditional rubber. I have not found this to be an issue at all.
Love it, genius for a starter kit. Hopefully I'll have a video to send you of what I am working on soon. Still gathering materials and mapping things out.
I'm currently making mine. I went to a junkyard to scavenge some useful items for this project and then I came across an old spin mop. I took off the mop and kept the pole and its spinning part, I then attached a wood stick to where the mop used to sit and I'm almost ready to go! The only thing I noticed is just that apparently, it doesn't spin as fast as the one in this video as it doesn't have the two ball bearings, probably there is only a small one inside the pole... But I'll be sure once the pole is fixed to a base. Anyway, I think its speed is good enough for a "beginner", and that's what it's intended for by me, so it will do the trick for a while!
The name or title of any specific deity is capitalized just like any other name, so when “God” is used to refer to “the one God” (in other words, in any monotheistic religion), it is capitalized. For example, you'd capitalize “God” in these sentences: Some Christians give thanks to God before every meal.
Not a bad Idea. Had you not thought about a garden parasol weight to slip it into?? The metal ones can be pegged into the grass in a back garden or screwed/secured into any wooden base
For anyone with the Everlast punching bag/speed bag stand, the three little 6 inch bars that have the pad on them(or as I used em, to put weights over to hold the stand down) is the perfect size for a 1/2 inch bar to slide right into for a "stand". Just pop the little plastic piece off and a 1/2 in bar slides right in it
You put a noodle! Glad you’re one of those you tubers who listen to their fans haha. Good stuff! Is there gonna be a v2? I’d love to make this but waiting if there’s a better version.
Yep. It doesn’t work but it the spring is replaced by a solid pipe, extending the mast then you could have a spar bar that uses the same platform as the cobra bag
Thank you for the translation! The key to the design is a rigid mast. PVC pipes bend and don’t offer the same rigidity as metal. For detailed instructions visit www.fighterdiy.com/2020/05/diy-spar-bar-pro.html?m=1
so you can't do any type of 360 degree footwork cause of all the stuff that's in the way, how abouts you just use a simple parasol base instead, fill it with sand or cement, then it'll be rock solid and won't move either and you can comfortably work around it from any angle?
It works incredibly! By the way, can you make a list of all the material? Some of this names are specific and I don't get them 😅 at least if I see them I can search for a translate (I'm spanish). Thanks anyway ;)
I don’t know if you remember General Grivous from the Star Wars prequels. He was the robot with 6 lightsabers that all spun vertically like plane propellers. If there’s a way to invent one of those that could be useful for practicing defense against jabs and crosses and maybe uppercuts on your own.
Another one I was thinking about was like a double end bag but instead of a bag there is a 2x4 or something with the end pointing at you(not the rails). Almost like real jabs being thrown at you. For me personally, cobra reflex bags and double end bags do nothing for me. I think of it as an opponents moving head you have to hit but never strikes back.
Hey Reedy great video! looking at making something like this myself. I picked up some 25mm x 47mm x 12mm bearings and was wondering if they'll fit in the 40mm PVC Tee/Cross section that you linked on your website. I thought since the bearing has a diameter of 47mm it wouldn't fit in the 40mm PVC section? Thanks and keep up the good work!
Good shit, keeping the active people busy during the "scamdemic", people stop criticizing each other. This guy is trying to save you some coins and stimulate creative thinking = deprogramming!!!!! stay woke.
I’m planning to make a free standing full length modular punching bag comprising of sections you can mix and match. That might be a couple of weeks away though. Next week is an upgrade of the spar bar. Stay tuned bro!
Thank you. The ball actually adds weight to the top and reduces any wobble from the punches. Without that extra weight at the top there is much more wobble.
Bro check out the p4p punching bag on UA-cam. It's a cool little idea basically like a spar bar. They have it mounted on the wall but you could totally make one like your current spar bar. I think you'll appreciate the idea.
Thanks brother! I had a look - looks awesome! Definitely possible to adapt by using two short pipes - I'll give it a go & if it works out I'll post a vid.
Man, been waiting for your content like crazy. Looking high and low for what beating type to use lol. Btw instead of putting your pool noodle above the bar i think you should put it below the bar, so you wont hit your head when you bob and weave
Thank you brother. That’s a good tip! I was going to use two halves- upper and lower, but ran out of noodles 😂 Next version it will be fully covered for aesthetics 👌
I'm a avid fan of your vids and I would like to know if its correct - 1/2 inch GI pipe, Ball bearing 25x47x12 and the 40mm T-pipe PVC. Also will mention some packing tapes. Thanks.
Dude, this sounds like it's better quality than the expensive "real" one
alternatively you could attach a razor sharp machete to the end, to simulate the nerves you feel in a real fight

That plunger was a great idea.
Thank you Sir, this is the attachment piece that I needed to complete my set. I have built 2 reflex bags so far, thanks to your vids. 👍🏻🤙
Most ingenious improvisation I’ve seen in a long time. Well done. Im going to make up.
I love this guy, prototype iterations as a hobby.
You know this guy is for real if even his intro is diy.

I need one like this

maybe try concrete in a bucket with the beam centered, I think that’s what i’m gonna do when i build one instead of the chair. Cheers and thank you
This weekend I’ll show you another option. Concrete in a bucket though is also a good idea 👍👌😆
