The Most Powerful Characters In Gaming Ever # 40

- This series is all about video game characters who have left me in awe at their power, whether it's the ability to survive a boulder falling on their head, colossal earth-shattering strength, sheer dominance over the game they're in, etc.
It might be a TV juggernaut, but The Simpsons hasn't been quite as successful on the video game front. One game in particular really dropped the ball in terms of balancing...

Something about comparing Ned Flanders to Ashera, Gill and *Sephiroth* in the same video is hilarious.
Gill? I can see. Ashera? Fair, if not kinda wacky. Sephiroth? *PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT*
@Owen Nelson I mean Sephiroth is really serious about his religion
Don't forget King Orange in Animation vs Minecraft...
@@madkhaliqfarhan I am not seeing the dots connecting colonel
Amazed he didn't appear earlier in this series. He's one of the best examples of bad game balance.
As mention in the video, a block button would be very needed for this game.
Flanders was literally there in the first episode (Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire)… Not counting The Tracey Ullman Show shorts, I don't imagine you could get much earlier than that
@@NunofYerbizness Wrong series.
@@NunofYerbizness Note the comment used “this series”.
Haveing a zoner in a fighting game that dosnt have blocking is a recipe for disaster
There's a cheat code that removes pinning and just awards someone the round when their opponent's health is fully depleted. This prevents Flanders from getting a revival and creates a fair fight. But when a CHEAT CODE makes fighting a character just "fair" you KNOW it's outlandish. (Maybe this will get brought up in a "extras" video)
You would still need to deal with the books and lightning if ned is able to get the thunder to cast correctl
What's more, is that Moe's Molotovs (or any move that involves the ropes, which grants you a ton of movement speed) can disrupt Flanders' casting animation. Doing that leaves Ned vulnerable to all attacks. Flanders has bad normals and whilst successful castings deal the most damage, it drains ALL of your meter. Meaning that you have to build it up again to summon God once more.
Well... Flanders has the power of God AND Anime on his side. That explains why he is so overpowered.
When does he have the power of anime?
@@cringejuicedavidson8288 He's a cartoon, and anime is the japanese term for cartoon. That's why :>
@@GanjiMEX I dont buy this explanation
@@cringejuicedavidson8288
The PlayStation is a Japanese console.
@@Shrek_es_mi_pastor Fun fact: in Japan, Evangelion is no more of "an anime" than Caillou is.
Happy to see that the resemblance to Gill was actually brought up here (lol); he actually doesn't need to be knocked down three times specifically, just that if you knock him down in any round while he has his super meter full...he'll just use Resurrection and get back up. So yeah, while you can potentially beat him in two rounds, you might as well end up having to beat him *four* times if you're unlucky to KO him with his meter full on both rounds.
Though even with Gill you can at least potentially stop him from fully recovering if your timing is good, since you can hit him to disrupt his Resurrection move, though the animation does have a pushback effect that repels a lot of attacks.
@@tacoman422 get lucky enough and he might even use that meteor attack while at low HP and while you are at point blank range. sure, it hits hard and can juggle, but it stops prematurely if gill gets hit. i have won some games through tactical errors on his part

There is absolutely no way a character like Flanders could ever appear in any kind of regular fighting game
Meta knight in smash bros brawl, Bayonetta in Smash 4? (If you mean by power)
@@minecafterhd2499 Thing is, while the two are undoubtedly broken by their games' standards, they aren't so broken that they have the single best area denial tool in the game that is very difficult to dodge and deals an outrageous amount of damage, nor do they have a homing spammable projectile that is pretty much impossible to dodge without using a very valuable item, or a way to revive potentially more than once even if they do get defeated.
@@someguy764 Hero gets a bit of that down.
@@emberthefox4951 even so, his broken stuff mostly comes from a very luck based mechanic that isn't reliable in the slightest. Flanders can reliably do everything I described with the exception of his resurrection thing, which is quite frankly just overkill by that point
Shao. FUCKING. Kahn
You got it wrong on Gill, buddy.
The trick about Gill's Resurrection is that he can only use it once per round once his super combo gauge is completely filled up, so if there's a player who's quick and skilled enough to take him down without letting GIll fill his gauge, they got a good shot at beating him. And once that's used, he cannot use a Super Art again until the next round starts.
Oh, and unlike Ned's resurrection, you can actually interrupt Gill before his life bar fills up! You have to be quick about it and stop him, as his move can push you away for a bit as he rises. It takes timing to stop him, but it's definitely doable, unlike with battling against Ned.
Nearly thought you were talking about Gil Gunderson (somehow)
It's still a cheap gimmick. Yeah, it's exploitable but it doesn't mean it isn't any less annoying especially when you fight him the first time and don't know he could do that.
@@dnmstarsi But even then, as mentioned, he can only use it once per round. So it's not like he's going to cheap on ya.
@@lalhs421 It's all secretly connected. It ain't no coincidence lol
@@dnmstarsi well with bart you can just out speed and destroy him
I don't get why Skinner isn't in that game. He's an ex green beret whose back tore through asphalt. He'd be perfect for at least a boss fight.
we need a sequel
And I imagine it'd be easy to think up school related attacks too.
Ned Flanders would beat Seymour Skinner very easily...
Ah man, even if this game got really bad reviews I just love it because of how wacky it is lol
12:55 Flanders is the last character you can unlock after beating the circuit mode twice, so even if he's not a boss, in a way it kind of makes sense that he's so powerful (also, to be honest, the AI is really dumb, no matter how much advantage it has it's not really hard to beat it once you get the hang of the game)
To what I remember when the AI uses Flanders, it usually only revives once, but when a player is in control they can revive almost endlessly via mashing. I believe there is an invisible bar that fills up when he's down and out, if you press nothing when pinned there's a chance he'll res and sometimes he wont, but if you start mashing, he always revives. As long as you mashed hard enough you could get him to stand up like 5 times before he finally went down. I think each time he does revive it just takes more effort to get him to res again. But considering the game in general yeah he already has too much of an advantage.
I feel like Flanders would be mostly fixed if he had half or even two thirds the health of the rest of the playable roster. Then he'd just be the best character in this game and not a contender for the most broken character (relative to their game) in the entire genre of fighting games.
I used to play this as a tourney with my friends, they hated that I picked Groundskeeper Willie because he hit like a truck and his super was easy to get. But playing Ned? Yeah we all decided he was too broken to play as. The trick to Ned is to interrupt him every time he tries to do the Praying, because I believe that is when Flanders gets the revive is when the Lightning is up.
This video showed him getting revived while it wasn't active. So I doubt it.
@@rosheafan Huh, coulda sworn that was the case, I usually just ran up to him as Willie and kicked his butt
So the two most buffed guys are the overpowered ones on this game?
Ned became the Meta Knight
Or use bart and out speed him beate him and he won't even revie
My best guess for how Flanders revive ability works is that it has a random chance of occurring, maybe it starts at 80% or something, and then decreases each time it's used.
I remember him reviving 4 times when I was a kid, unless my memory is mistaken.
I wonder if the super prayer attack factors into it...
Yeah he can revie dempding on actions so dempding on how you play he can have 10 lives possibly
Think sparking captain ginu from dragon ball legendy ecect if you last enough you can revie infinitely
Holy crap, someone remembers Simpsons Wrestling. One of my favorite things to do with this game was actually what would be a case of Game Genie Fun: Flanders, infinite attack meter, spam Circle. Lightning Storms.
what heavenly powers compel-diddly-elled you to do THAT
That sounds INSANE.
I noticed when you "fought" Bart in fast forward that you didnt pray for lightning once. Maybe praying a certain number of times activates his auto-revive? You certainly prayed quite a bit in the following match where you got two auto-revives.
What if you wanna beat Ned Flanders in a wrestling match, *but the God said "no"?*
Leave... Leave before the match starts!
Ah, right, I forgot how OP Flanders was in Simpsons Wrestling.
Even back when I was a kid I knew this game was bad and I saw it as an example of really bad balancing.
moment of silence for broken friendships over who gets to play Ned Flanders
You actually made the simpsons wrestling sound like an amazing game!! Congrats!! Just to clarify: Gill's "resurrection" works like a passive super: it will activate if he goes down with full meter, and it also can be interrupted mid-way (if you're skilled)... which makes flanders healing ability WAY WORSE
Flanders in the show: diddly dally dolly
Flanders in the wrestling game: *time to repent your sins*
The Mark of my Digni-iddly-ity shall scar thy DNA.
-Ned Fucking Flanders.
Never mess with Ned! He survived the deadliest lightning strike and the traumatic scar is hidden behind his sexy moustache!
Something that's pretty funny here is that near the end of the video when Ned pins Smithers you see that Burns hits him with a bomb and it doesn't interrupt the pin like the lightning would.
'Kneel before your mast-diddly-aster!'
Very different meaning of 'bible-thumping'. Unfortunately Simpsons has suffered from the curse of licensed games worse than most, but occasionally there's a game like Hit and Run that's just decent gameplay plus tons of hilarious lines from the good seasons of the show, and that's enough. Even Flanders' line to Apu made me chuckle.
I never got to play hit and run but I’ve heard it’s really good. Like GTA but Simpsons
@@opalyasu7159 it is, although there’s some VERY rough difficulty spikes
@@IamANOTHERperson417 that final level looks like so much damn pain
@@nerosoul2506 it is! You have to be so precise, while driving a slow car, under a tight time limit!
Would it make Worst Levels Ever material?
Gill: Needs full meter to resurrect, can be interrupted during the process leading to a less-than-full bar and even potential juggling to death anyway, disables super buildup entirely on use ala Guilty Gear IKs removing meter on whiff, meaning Resurrection can only be used once per round and removes EX and Super Arts as options when used, is a final boss so breaking some rules is justified
Ned Fucking Flanders:
That is one powerful goddamn thumbnail. Also the main reason I know of this game's existence is a video by Games Are Art, where it was just a match of Willie just completely destroying Lisa with garden tools, and then bouncing off the ropes while constantly saying "MAKE WEY FER WILLIE". Became a little injoke between me and my little brother.
I can't be 100% positive about this, but it looks to me like if Flanders uses his special attack to make lightning strike the opponent, he gets to revive after getting pinned! That might actually be more broken than Gill's Resurrection, which only works if he has a full Super Art meter when he's KO'd.
Trick is to interrupt Ned every time. I mained Willie in this game and he hits pretty hard and fast, Moe is good at it too because his basic attacks can knock Ned out of it too.
Theory: Ned Flanders is secretly a member of the Belmont family
1:00 As soon as you had Ned Flanders on the thumbnail, I knew exactly what you were going to talk about.
12:58
Unless you've used cheats.
He's the final opponent you fight in the whole game.
So technically he's the final boss of The Simpsons Wrestling.
"Who do you think is the most powerful in this game?"
Me, who saw Ned Flanders in the video thumbnail: I do wonder 👁️👄👁️
Considering that "Simpsons Wrestling" is released a year after the death of Maude Flanders, my theory is that whenever Ned gets knocked out, Maude (as an angel in heaven) would sing beautifully to wake him up!
3:50 Theres something about a baby holding on to an opponent while the mother beats them over the head with a frying pan thats oddly appealing. They should make a Dark Souls boss with this idea
Okay
For Gil, a lot of people here already explained how his revival works so I won't repeat it
For Ned though
I've only seen the two instances you showed
But from what I've seen, if you've succesfully pinned him for three counts while there's still some of the blue bar left, he will revive
But if he doesn't have any more blue bar by the time you pin him to three, then he won't revive
At least, that's the only difference I've seen
The Kang/Kodos thing looked like it was similar to the Burns/Smithers thing. Kang is the one with the health meter but his 'sister' Kodos does the actual fighting on his behalf. Obviously it was the developers poking fun at tag teams in wrestling no doubt, despite the lack of actual tagging. Yeah, no way is this a balanced game, but then it wasn't supposed to be a balanced fighter, just another Simpsons game made for comedic purposes. :)
Nice, I can always appreciate a _Power Stone_ reference! I'd love to see you give both games a more in-depth look on the channel at some point, it's a great series.
Now I want to mod a voice file in KH 2. In that sephiroth fight; make him say "heavenly power of Christ compels you" instead of "heartless angel" and see what I get more scared of.
If Fat Tony's in the game, he could summon his goons to assault the player
The mark of my dignity shall scar thy DNA. - Ned Flanders
As a Christian, I can confirm that chucking our good book at our opponents and watching it relentlessly hover around them forever is truly an amazing sight worthy of praise.
I think there is a way to make Flanders an interesting and balanced character.
Here is my pruposal:
- Flanders's punches are a bit weaker than average, and he has a bit more than half of the average health.
- The books are slower and stop floating after a while, maybe between 4 or 8 seconds?
- The lightning attack is left like it is.
- He revives in every match, but only once.
This is the most memorable overpowered gaming character for me. I have memories of arguing with my cousins over who gets to be Flanders when we played this together.

I really think you should cover Cait Sith's Game Over ability in FF7. I just watched a TAS of FF7 and the person who made it used Game Over to beat both of Sephiroth's final forms in one hit.
This is gonna be a good one
*Pulls out Popcorn*
The only person who could surpass Ned’s power is one Coconut Fred.
When I saw Ned Flanders on the thumbnail, I immediately knew what you meant.
Hi-dilly-ho, wrestlerinos!
Oh, Ned Flanders? This I gotta s-WH-
I'm already shocked by the hyper-homing Bible throwing spam. It's reminiscent of Eyetrack Orbitars in Kid Icarus Uprising, except here, it's being used by a character with actual mobility, and the competition doesn't have Powers/Miracles to work with to have ways to try to shake it off or especially catch Ned. And if you're wondering what Eyetrack Orbitars is about, search UA-cam for "Spamtracks" because I have a video where I fight against a hacked setup, granted I do still beat down the setup but even so.
The lightning is even more disgusting from what you showed. Being interruptible by attack flinching is not a weakness in these games, and again, cheap design to give Ned such a blatant advantage. Eyetrack Orbitars again by contrast can have its Shots contested to mitigate the shot looping, and it needs a good chunk of its Power Grid to manage anything active even with Shot Range+, plus once it's dead, no more of those shot looping attacks.
Also, the resurrection bit. Yeah, it does speak for itself, although there are problems well before it.
It's not common for these episodes to focus on the bad kind of most powerful characters. Ned's case was so bad that he's the only thing people remember about the game. Also I want a Simpsons remix of A Grasping Truth.
So he wins by picking God and praying.
The thumbnail made me scream out loud. This video is the kind of thing my doctor warns me about...
Jesus Christ. Ned Flanders has like the best tools out of any fighting character ever.
High damaging lightning, full life resurrection and homing moves that stalk relentlessly and don't give up until it hits.
No items, Flanders only, Kwik-E-Mart
I know only one person can play as Flanders but imagine a Flanders ditto match.
Lisa was pretty busted in the game too. If you played her sax at the right rhythm it would hit her opponent no matter where they were and leave them in a stun if you finished it. I believe it was 7 attacks/notes. My cousin used it on me and she was extremely annoying to beat. Pretty good for just a regular character.
Finding out my man Kermit plays Akuma has made my day.
Gill's resurrection occurs if he dies with full meter, regardless of the round (he just has it full by round 2 most of the time unless he spends it on Meteor Storm or that goddamn Seraphic Wing)
As for ned his might be tied to his prayer special, as you didn't do it on bart and once on Apu and once before getting pinned each time by Smithers.
This is pure guesswork though, I have no knowledge of the game.
Undoubtedly the most OP character in video game history
Ned deserves to be tested against Akuma to see if he can survive the Shun Goku Satsu...
I only played the Simpsons DS game, had quite some fun with it. Too bad it got corrupted and kept crashing at a specific point after a while.
It almost feels like the revival is meant to be RNG...
I feel like the Revival thing are time dependant, but I'm not too sure.
Each time he prayer for the thunder gets an effect of lazaro making him revive once revive do the prayer will gain lazaro again, its like Rasenmon each time use his ex especial gets auto revive
Ned really got the power of god and anime on his side
God and Maude...
Day 1 of asking whoisthisgit for a tierlist for characters in Simpsons Wrestling based on viability

A slight correction I feel like I should add, Gil will only revive if he has a full bar of meter when he is knocked down, and even when he revives and well timed kick or fireball will knock him out of it, maybe even potentially even KOing him again and if not leaving him with potentially a sliver of health.
Ned Flanders, however, just does it whenever he's pinned, because...
Maybe...Ned Flanders is stronger than Gil?
I feel like that when Flanders revives when he gets pinned, he shouldn't recover any of his health, then this would just be a second chance kind of thing instead of being completely broken. Maybe he could even have slightly less health than the rest of the cast to balance this further.
I'm quite amazed by the fact that you still haven't made a video about the most powerful villain EVER.... Lavos from Chrono Trigger.
If you truly believe that about Lavos, you might want to see Creepy Bad Endings 46
I don't know what it is, but this video has crashed on me more times than I care to count! I guess Flanders' power is just too great for my mortal device to handle.
8:36 i just noticed that Moe was briefly t-posing at this moment
The fact that I’m a boss fight shows you should fear me
"seven stupid sexy bolts"
Ned was once struck by lightning while trying to save the young Homer from attempting to do 500 jumps on his trampoline! Now the lightning is his best friend!
i dont know whats worse:
the fact that there's a simpson fighting game where ned is the most powerful character
or i knew before this video that there's a simpson fighting game where ned is the most powerful character
I suspect Flanders' revive is based on the attack bar - against Bart, it was completely full, but against the others, it wasn't completely full, and the revive triggered.
Not a character but a powerful skill -
DanganRonpa V3 Himiko Yumeno's Skill: Abracadabra: After some time the correct truth bullet will be highlighted. You get this after completing all of her free time events
i feel like south park fighting game in a similar style to this would be great, I'd love to see randy and towlie tag team against Terrance and Philip
With him he bears the exaggerated swagger of a holy man
I'm glad someone addressed this with ned Flanders on Simpsons wrestling
Devs: (attempts to nerf Flanders).
God: "HEY! nerfing my stand-in is a sin so great, you won't ever get into heaven!" (yeets lightning)
I think that Kang And Kodos are actually both girls. The Futurama crossover episode said that, at least.
If I was to be able to balance Ned Flanders, What I would do is
-Remove, or Limit his Reviving ability, he doesn't always revive, and when he does, he can only do it once per round, and Instead of fully recovering, His stamina would be half (Or lower) Recovered
-His book would Disappear after a while, and it's homing ability would be nerfed, and it would deal less damage
-His Thunder ability should Have damages reduced And/or The number of thunder as well, and it wouldn't hit the opponent when they are down
I like how I saw the video series and the character on the thumbnail and instantly knew what was up. This game is a beautiful train wreck lmao
Edit: Also if I had to guess, the revivals work one or two ways:
1: it's just a percent chance to rez you (probably 50% or something)
2: it's somehow tied to the use of the lightning (maybe overusing it lowers the odds? Or maybe using it is what grants the extra life in the first place?)
If I had to guess it's either 1, or a combination, but still.
Also I say this with no first-hand knowledge of the game. I'm sure someone out there will one day dig deep into this just for the novelty - people love Kusoge games especially these days.
In Akatsuki Bliztkampf, there’s a character named Anonym who has a super where she revives and damages her opponent in the holy light (however it’s only a part of her health that gets restored)
...There was a Simpsons video game?
I saw Flanders and was like "Ned Flanders?! He's not even from a video game!"
I am shocked at how wrong I was.
8:10 why wasn't that a treehouse of horror episode
in a way, flanders remind me of mechani-cat in tom and jerry house trap, the game is a fair challenge but then you are against mechani-cat, man, so many retry, and after that the difficulty drops a lot in the final level, so in my mind mechani-cat is the final level and that's it, the other one is just an extra level
Flandre
The attack bar is at least a pretty cool idea, there is another PS1 game called Unholy War that used the same idea and a did it a lot better too, though admittedly that game has its own balance problems.
I guess, this was made by developers, who have never played a fighting game before... or even heard about it.

Bart vs the Space Mutants is not great, but not bad also. If the other levels were like the first (a bit more adventure-ish), I think it would be pretty good.
Used to play the crap out of this game when i was a kid. Don't remember Flanders being this OP though 🤔
6:17 Smithers? Why did you sound like a Goron?
I can't believe you missed graggle smh. Way more op than even ned, especially with the nigh-undodgeable shock waves from his ground slam attack.
What if you try covering the Touhou project for the next episode of this series?
Many, many characters in the series are incredibly OP. Most antagonists are only beatable because they are somewhat balanced by "spellcard rules" to prevent bloodshed.
I can see what you mean about the music in Mr. Burns' mansion resembling To Cut a Long Story Short. Have you ever played The Unholy War? I'm curious due to it being slightly similar to this due to how attacks work (a lot of the power ups and attacks seem similar to ones from THW too).
