But if she is thinking that they can always travel and enjoy retirement later on, she needs to realize that later on might never happen. I wouldn't go back to work at 60 if my spouse was retired and we didn't need the money. We would be out going places and doing fun things while we were still reasonably active, healthy and able to enjoy ourselves.
My father in law often says he wishes he would have worked longer- just depends on your passions - I can see myself working into my later years because I have a passion for my work
My question to her would have been, if you knew you only had 5-10 years left to live would you take this job? Because at that point who cares how many millions you have in the bank. If this is going to be fulfilling for her and she’s doing some good in the world she should do it, but otherwise, no.

I would have a hard time giving up 4 or 5 years doing things with my spouse to go back to work in this case since he is 12 years older than her. Enjoy the time he may have left with you. You can always get something else later should you want.
