I started Collecting Comics when I was Six years old (1968)and its actually great for me to actually see all of these Types of Past & Present Horror Comics Still Being Published and Available Nowadays and Still Being Sought After & Purchased-"Nastalgic!"
Well bronze horror is much less expensive and easier to find in a higher grade than golden age. They have also had some relaxation by the comics code authority by that time. It really was a nice time for those comics. Good stories. Great covers.
Great pickups on the HoM & HoS Ryan -- I've been looking for a 9.0+ of that House of Mystery #221 Wrightson.. The Neal Adams Phantom Stranger cover is also a beauty 👍
My start in comics was DC bronze age horror... I loved it then and I love it now. Greatest cover of all time -- HoM 217... Bernie Wrightson's haunted tree. I can't go all out. My wife would kill me, haha. Condition wise... I have to settle with the fine/very fine range. That's what I had back in the day. Well read, but nicely stored copies of killer books. Nice video. Keep us updated on where you think this market is headed.
I think that compared to PCH, Bronze horror is still somewhat attainable considering the relative rarity of the books in high grade. Many early DC Horror books seem prone to heavy tanning so finding them in pristine condition isn’t all that common. Also the art is some of the best that has ever existed in comics. They were obviously heavily influenced by the GA masters but some like Wrightson and Adams elevated it to the next level. While they don’t hold the same historical significance of their GA counterparts, these books still redefined the genre and made horror comics legitimately spooky again.
I'm giving the comic book presser a shot. I have to say, so far, he's got an impressive website. Showing the progression of an order is definitely a professional touch.
in ref to the archie you show: the artists used often by early archie comics also supplied the company with their patriotic wwii covers on titles like pep, hangman and more,.....to me, they are easily the equal of most schomburg covers, much less frenetic.....artists like, bob montana, irv novick and harry lucey.....
Bronze Age horror wasn’t well cared for, most people didn’t think it would ever be very valuable. While they will never reach the value of GA horror some of the Neal Adams, Bernie Wrightson and Nick Cardy covers are amazing. They are very difficult to find in NM+, especially the dark covers. I doubt very much that anyone is going to flood the market with tons of really high grade copies. I have collected and researched this genre for a very long time. GA is way out of most people budgets, so I believe late silver and early Bronze Age horror has tons of potential.
Exactly! It’s no secret that they are valuable in high grade, pretty sure the fact is that they were read a lot and, like the other person said, relegated to dollar/ cheap bins for years. No way are you going to see tons of books like HOS 174, HOS 81 or Witching Hour 1’s hit the market in 9.2+. There’s a ton of great covers in DC silver/ bronze horror.
Your comment about bronze age horror may be true. But I remember those books being relegated to the dollar (or maybe 50 cent) bins back in the day. Not even in plastic bags.
Trust me, there are no short boxes of multiple copies of high grade late silver/ early Bronze Age DC horror. That stuff happens mostly with post 1980 stuff and with the occasional warehouse finds, but very unlikely for this stuff. GA collectors tend to downplay these books from my experience.
The Action Comics with the origin of the Parasite was one of the first comics I ever purchased off the newsstand. I thought the scene with the man-to-parasite transition was cool to this young kid (at the time). I really hated when the Parasite was eventually changed to some big hulking thing. IMO, the overpowering of Superman makes it hard to write stories for him.

Great haul! Weird Mystery, Black Magic and other DC titles have reprints of classic horror from the Golden Age, early Kirby, etc.

Love that Reggie!! I picked up a cool Archie 101. Raw 7-7.5. I love the old Archie stuff

Great choice! So many great Wrightson covers between HOS and HOM!

i agree, but the prices seem to be catching up on the bronze horror pretty fast tho'.....
Very cool pickups!
Shows suck it’s so much cheaper online. You think dealers want to move their books but nope they want last years price still
I saw you at the same show! Was going to say hey but chickened out. Nice comic haul!
Thanks! I’m always talking to people at the shows. Feel free to say hi 👍

The best wrightson book you showed at the end looks like an homage to strange stories from another world 2.

@johnedwards2051 always happy to talk with people when I’m at a show 👍
I have that first Black cat in a 9.0, and the Parasite, it's off being graded.
Getting the FOMO from Vintage Past UA-cam??? lol
Footage! I find it quaint that term is still used. While I still have it, I do have old film on reels that can be measured by the foot.

For the Bronze horror, mark it up 20x and sell to Mickey 😆
🤔
Reggie #3, looks good. Who can see the back?

That was my first “first appearance” comic I bought as a middle schooler, will never sell my copy
Phantom Stranger 18, tentacle around the girl makes that a bondage cover?🙃
