I don't even like football but his fastest 3 minutes segment is a joy to watch every week. That song is permanently stuck in my brain and I'm more than okay with that!
The budget on these Thabeast721 videos is getting insane. Hard to believe he booked Chris Berman because that is obviously the only way that sound could have been produced.
Trying to figure out who #12 would be, the Broncos didn't actually have a number 12 that season. I think it's meant to be Marcus Nash, who was 1st round pick at WR in that year's draft and was actually #82. I remember those old sports game were always weird with rookies. Anyway, Nash had 4 catches in his career so I don't think anyone regretted his omission.
I also searched for their 99' roster, and saw a quarterback named Chris Miller. Originally drafted to the Falcons in 1987, he was with them until 1993 before moving to the Rams. But, due to several concussions, he took a hiatus after one season with the Rams, and then came back in 99 to the Broncos. However, he then got ANOTHER concussion and called it quits shortly after.
These old sports games don’t hold up, but I do have fond memories of madden 99. I used to play this on Sundays on a separate small tv that I’d setup in the living room next to our “big” tv. Then I’d play this while the actual football games were on. Very good memories
He said Drew Bledsoe will probably go on to have a very successful career with the Patriots. Lol. He became the highest paid backup of all time as a little known 6th draft pick went on to take the starting position. With a post season record of 35-13, TB12 cemented himself as the greatest player to ever play the game. Despite being dead last in the NFL combine.
@@groovidex7281 If ever a human needed instant saves/an X7 it would be Thab lol. Guy has spent tens of thousands of hours on these games, actually worth it for him.
1st of all I love watching you thab; especially your N64 gaming series. My only "complaint" here is I wish you would have shown the kicking mechanic here. It sure has changed over the years and it's all part if the experience IMHO. Keep kicking butt thabeast721!
Im a sports gamer here and I can say you are 100% correct when you say GC and PS2 era were the best for Maddens. Once they started doing all the animation stuff and got away from the physics based engines it was all downhill. Madden 07 on the original Xbox is the best btw...
So you probably know by now but the Browns were moved to Baltimore to become the Ravens in 1996. Sort of. Technically even though all the players on the Browns went to the Ravens, the NFL, because of how pissed Cleveland was, considered the Browns “deactivated” and the Ravens an “expansion” team. The Browns then got “reactivated” in 1999, which means that the Ravens have no claim to any of the Browns team history. It was quite the deal back when it happened, people hated the owner who moved them a ton.
I love your sports commentary. It’ll be fun when we get your marble race commentary next month too. Also congratulations on finally beating that awful horse racing game. You are ichiban!
Anyways, here a brownie recipe. Ingredients: - 1 cup unsalted butter - 2 cups granulated sugar - 4 large eggs - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract - 1/2 cup all-purpose flour - 1/2 cup cocoa powder - 1/4 teaspoon salt - 1 cup chopped nuts or chocolate chips (optional) Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan. 2. Melt 1 cup butter, mix with 2 cups sugar. 3. Add 4 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla; mix well. 4. Sift in 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup cocoa, and 1/4 tsp salt; stir. 5. Optional: add 1 cup nuts or chocolate chips. 6. Pour into the pan, bake for 25-30 mins. 7. Cool completely, cut into squares, and enjoy your brownies!
I like that for a guy not big on the sports titles you still manage to have some fun with them. 99 was/is one of my favorite old school maddens. TE cross routes were the way to go, especially with teams like denver and green bay. Excited for the next game. Didn't play it for n64 but loved it on dreamcast
Madden 99 on the N64 was my introduction to football sims! Doubt it holds up like NFL 2K5, but you've got me wishing I still had an N64 so I could get a hit of that sweet sweet nostalgia
I'm a game audio guy so I'm biased, but please feel free to spend more time talking about the sfx and music in these games. Much of your footage has your narration over the top so there isn't much game audio to hear. Still love this series!
6:23 Weird that Rich Gannon is the starter. Elvis Grbac was the starter in QB Club 99. Gannon was only the starter (successfully) for a few games in the middle of the season while Grbac was hurt.
The Denver Broncos have been my favorite football team since I was a kid. Dad was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys for more then half his life but he turned against them after they fired Tom Landry and liked Denver for a few years then switched to the New York Giants, and then was a fan of the Atlanta Falcons until his death in 2011. I might have played this at a cousin's house but we generally only owned one or two Madden games per console. We had 93 and whichever was the first with two point conversions on the SNES, 2002 on the PS2, and I got Madden 12 upon getting my PS3 soon after he passed. I remember for the first couple of years after getting 93 we had to flip a coin to see who got to play as Denver.
I admit i thought yet another sport title was gonna be a blah playthrough but you killed the commentary. I'm actually excited for the next 10 maddens lol
I look at this game and think back on playing it. I think about how the game would change in the very next generation and wonder how did that ever enjoy this game?
After getting back into N64 this year to casually speedrun SM64 one thing I noticed at every retro game store is that Madden football 64 carts are as guarenteed at the stores as death and taxes. So I started buying them everytime I see one. Only started collecting Madden 64 carts this year and so far up to 12 copies. One day Ill be the man with the largest Madden 64 collection of all time. With only 12 carts though, I may already be.
I cannot recall from the catacombs of my memory, if my all time number 1 favorite national football league of America player Leroy Hammers aka. L'Hammers was in this game. slapping jolly mooving picture show ole' chap.
Nice Berman whoop lmao. I still think you need to include the "Fastest Two Minutes/NFL Primetime" music and do your highlights that way on football games 🤣
4:11 Belichick wasn’t the coach of the Pats yet when this game came out… I would normally say he wouldn’t let a team be that terrible, but I’ve had the unfortunate experience of seeing the Pats over the past couple years post-Brady.
Funny thing about the Browns leaving and returning to the league. If Joe Flacco can win us a Super Bowl this season, It'll be his second Super Bowl with the Cleveland Browns.
Each aspect im sure had to be heavily considered as sports games that are fully fleshed out require a media format w relatively good specs, if theyre also going to look good enough for commercial viability. Playstation being disc based was much more suited for such games. The n64s cartridge base, not so much..and that is likely why a quick sim option wasnt present. Though you wouldnt think itd have been taxing to include it. But probably was thought of as a quality of life feature because you can still sim; therefore not a must.
The browns never left the NFL. The browns were moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens and then in 99 Cleveland fielded a new browns team as art modell left everything but the players to the city of Cleveland.
The Burman impression brought me to my childhood watching sports center late in my room as a kid before you even said his name. Ballin. Also the WAS a nice 69 pump catch...erm...in the yard...um...yard.
I can’t wait for two years from now when I can finally watch the horse game 2 hour super edit
Same her!!! Ive only seen the short of him beatig it. 133 hours?? I want to see the pain!!!
Has he finally finished it ??@@SaltyChip

10:05 they moved to Baltimore and became the Ravens. Then a couple years later they were refounded as an expansion team.

I LOVE these football game videos. The play-by-play commentary style is hilarious!
HAHAHA the Chris Berman impression 😂😂😂 the way I IMMEDIATELY knew
I remember my dad getting Madden every year for Christmas when the Super Nintendo and N64 was out.
I don't quite understand american football, but your commentary is amazing! Keep it up!
It IS hard to watch an irl game of it because they insist on taking 10 minute breaks between even single play
@@Atylonisus That's for the advertising space. Same in hockey, they constantly take breaks and a ton of ads are played on the big screens.
You're not missing anything.
😮 I agree. I am from Sweden and in our culture ice hockey and football is more popular.
Lol the Tom Grossi theme playing in the background 😅
OMG, your commentary was spot on. I didn't mind the game not having its own at all.
I didnt expect that berman impression almost choked on my chicken
wow I never knew that Mcafferys dad made it to the NFL..that was random as hell for you to pick his team out of the rest.
Broncos?! Good choice!!! I’ve been waiting for a football stream. Thank you!
your football commentary is the best!

Ed Mcaffery’s son is the best running back in the NFL today. Pretty neat!
Surprised you knew Robert Edwards on the Pats considering he played 1 year before injuring himself playing flag football funnily enough

I really love your color commentary of at least one game in each of the sports games. Thank you!
Eh... I'm a little bummed that a whole season wasn't played. I've been waiting for a game to come along that required a whole season.
If there was a season to play, it'd be football, due to the seasons only being 16 games long on the N64, but I'd bet against it ever happening.
I did that in Madden Football 64
Nice video, just a note, the Broncos would never meet the Bills in the Super Bowl. They are both in the AFC. LOL. Good video as always.
