Great information as always. I had no idea top loading carriers were available, that's exactly what we need! Seeing you "play poker" with Skyfall was hilarious. Thank you for your videos, we look forward to them and ALWAYS learn something.
    God bless.🙏🤗

Thanks for your comment, Diane! I didn't even have to train Skyfall. I just put her on the chair and she did it all by herself!

Thank you for reminding me to be ready for a total evacuation. I too have more cats than carriers ❤😊

Good Advice! We have Carrers that open on top or front, the top opening makes life a lot easier! Thank You!

We have around 60 cats in our sanctuary and many of them are rescued feral cats so when we have to get them to the vet we have to literally trap them all over again. We have that particular one that opens from the top and it it has been a godsend - the only problem is quite often the top will not stay up - it wants to fall. From our time of rescuing cats we learned how important it is to be able to close and lock the door quickly and securely. With several cheaper carriers. cats have actually barged through the front door (ones with the plastic doors and plastic tabs. . Also when we have to go to a more advanced vet it's an hour and a 1/2 drive and we have learned to use painter's tape to hold puppy pads in place at the bottom of the carrier. Its awful when a cat pees or goes poop and nothing can be done until you get to the vet.

First, it's great that you have a sanctuary! We need more! Yes, they should make the top angle out a little more so that it is less inclined to close itself. Have you tried to put the carrier with one side on flat board instead of on an even floor? That might be enough correction to stop that from happening. Totally agree on the plastic tabs, and thanks for the tip for the longer trips!

I hope for everyones sake you never have need to evacuate everyone at the same time. Thank you for the suggestion of using taped puppy pads on the bottom for accidents that high anxiety can trigger. Great idea!!!

I totally agree with everything you said. I have 3 cats and only 2 carriers. The carriers are big, so I can fit 2 cats in one in a pinch. I thought that was good because I only have 2 hands and can't carry three carriers at the same time (i.e. fire in the building). However, I'm planning to get a cat backpack soon because I'm going to be leash training 2 of my cats (to take outside individually) and I want a safe place to put them if they get scared or there's a loose dog or something. That'll count as my third carrier and then I'll be able to move all 3 at once in their own space. I leave both of my carriers in my living room and my cats use them as beds sometimes. They see them as safe spaces. I don't usually have problems putting them in the carriers even though I've moved the carrier to a bench or counter. I think it's because I move the carriers often when I run the robot vac, so they don't associate that with leaving the house. Also, they only leave the house in them once or twice a year, so they don't expect it.

Thanks for your comment, Jennie! I agree that a combination of carriers and cat backpack is a good one. Good luck with the walking!

My two carriers are similar to the larger one you show, with front and top doors, and metal hardware. We leave them out , so kitties stay familiar with them, and we can evacuate quickly, which did happen in an apartment building I lived in a few years ago when the fire alarm went off - it took several stressful minutes to get them and put them in, however, because the loud alarms terrified them and they ran and hid under a bed, then darted from room to room, trying to escape the noise. Usually, we casually pick one up and put it in via the top carrier door, back to the human and claws toward the carrier, so they don't cling to a shirt. Car rides aren't their favorite, but they're okay with the carriers because they're out all the time to mark with their cheeks and nap in.

Your "tell" is looking at the cat (making eye contact). When I have to catch a cat I look away and use my peripheral vision,

Never had a problem with my two original furballs. The current furballs they want no part of going inside them. We will place the carriers in the stairs and we get both cats excited to go down the stairs at the same time and then close the door. I will then take a shirt or blanket and cover the cats completely and pick them up so they can't see anything and can't move their front legs and quickly shove them in.

Yeah, sometimes you have not choice. They have to get to the vet, or wherever.

Great video with lots of things I hadn't thought of. I have soft-sided carriers for my cats because I thought they'd be more comfortable to travel in. But it's super hard to close the zipper when you're struggling with a cat that's trying to get out. Do not recommend.

Ten hours is really hard. Do you have time to harness train them? Maybe getting out for a walk would make it easier.

These carriers are no good, I have a carrier which opens at the top, it's pvc coated and works perfect for the cat, she has no issues going into or out of my open top carrier
