    I just installed the Kohler 20KW RCA here on the ranch in Montana. I am learning the process that happens during startup between the Grid & my Grid tied Solar System. My heart stopped when my new 10,000 watt Solar System shut down. And failed to restart after the generator fired up. I found out the Microverters @ the panels shutdown to protect themselves. An hour later they resumed operation as usual. Smart technology is always nice to have.

    I just purchased the 26kW RCA here in Houston, TX, where we experience power outages and hurricanes from time to time due to volatile weather conditions. I am extremely excited for them to come out! I remember that during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the water was really high, so they'll put it on a 2-foot stand in an area where nobody can see it and hardly hear it.

    Love your enthusiasm. I know the feeling lol. I have an old Onan 12.5 kw (from the 80's) Just bought the 200 amp Kohler auto transfer switch because my old Onan one went bad. I've been fighting with that old generator a yr now . I am purchasing the Kohler 20kw next week like you have. I can't wait ! I will have that same smile when mine is going again . Any guy who has been in these shoes knows that excitement lol glad I'm not only one. Good vid brother .

    My stepfather has always had one or two portables as long as I can remember. We always had one camping, just in case. And completely handy when my parents returned home after the Paradise fires.
    Your is awesome. Power out, generator kicks in. So cool.
    Wait till you really need it!!
    Everything is coming together.
    Very happy for you, Jacey and Rossi!!

      when my mon was out of power for 46 hrs, in late july, 95+ degrees in ohio with 95%- humidity and at 78 yo. that was the last straw! after that all i got was a call from her telling me the power was out, i had it set for transfer in 10 seconds, believe me when your working 560 miles away on a billion dollar job and you get that call, i would smile that big, 10 seconds or 46 hrs

    Thanks. I am learning from each video I watch.
    One concern is it appears the engine turns over a long period of time as compared to a zero turn mower before it starts

      On gasoline engines the fuel is already at the carburetor. Natural & LP gas takes a few extra seconds compared to gasoline, The suction from the engine opens the regulator, Then it travels through 18 inches of hose. This gives the engine oil about 2 to 3 seconds to circulate before engine steps up to full speed. This is better for the engine.

    Back up gens are great. I had one in my last house, but now I can't get one for months for my new house. Apparently COVID has production all screwed up. I ordered it a couple weeks ago and it will be here in Dec. Just wondering how long it took you to get yours ordered and to arrive? Fortunately I don't lose power as often as you do, but when it does go out, it's nice to know it will be back on within 15 seconds. Just to have it in your vid, he probably should've mentioned it also does a self test once a week to make sure everything is in proper working order so you know it will work when you need it.
    Great vid Anthony. It's fun to see you get so excited about back up power.

    I just got a Kohler standby Gen hooked up yesterday and so it was great to see a walk through like you guys did for us! Are you going to test it every year under load for an extended period? Thanks for the video!

    • @CarrinoAnthony
      @CarrinoAnthony  Рік тому +2

      Mother Nature gives this generator all the testing it needs; it kicks on at least once a month for a hours when the power goes out. That said, the generator has what is called an 'Exercise Cycle' - its a setting that you program for the generator to turn on automatically and run for a bit at a set interval to ensure all is working properly. I have mine set to exercise once a week for 20 minutes. Hope that helps!

    • @riversgunkingdom5360
      @riversgunkingdom5360 Рік тому

      @@CarrinoAnthony That's true and now that I think about it I lose power to my house at least 6 times a year and at least once a year I lose power for 2-3 hours. Also mine is set to exercise for 20 mins once a week. Thanks for reminding me!

    Question the installer said if you use it for 4 days then he has to come out why does he half to come out for. Thanks

    • @CarrinoAnthony
      @CarrinoAnthony  Рік тому

      He meant if it runs for 4 days straight, so that would be 96 operating hours. You typically want to service your generator every 100 operating hours or so. And for context, my generator usually kicks on for a few hours at a clip when we lose power, but we do have the occasional multi-day outage, so the reality has been, at least for me, its typically a once a year service, but in the event that the generator is working overtime for me then I call for an additional service. Hope that helps!

      Running like a champ. Definitely recommend. Only thing I’d do differently next time around would be to set the generator on 8” block and then paint it with that special paint (name is escaping me right now). Had a few nice get in there.

    Use high zinc oil like Amsoil oil small engine oil do not use automobile oil people will say you can but Air cooled engines require alot more zinc and phosphorus than car oil especially LP and NG engines full synthetic

    Looking to buy a generator now. Why Kohler and not Generac or Cummings? Just curious. Also is there a voltage loss with the generator so far from your home?

    • @CarrinoAnthony
      @CarrinoAnthony  Рік тому

      For my money, I like the reliability of Kohler. No experience with Cummings. Have heard some horror stories on Geneerac. No voltage loss. 20kW runs the whole home flawlessly.

      I did have solar planned, but budget and timing didn’t allow for at the moment. I have a conduit run for it, and my plan is when I do a new roof (2-3yrs) I want to do a standing seam and will add solar at that time. 🤙🏼
