Thanks this was nice....I am a long time run Disney volunteer and it is nice to hear your side of the event....today I am recovering from the Princess Half, ( as a water stop volunteer ). Note: do pay attention to the weather...it was so so hot today for our runners.. Also for volunteers it's welcomed to see the balloon ladies...we can go now.......the runners are always the best, it's fun for us too. Thanks
Ahhh we love the runDisney volunteers! Always feels great to come up to the water stops and get a little bit of encouragement before you go to the next mile! I felt SO bad for the Princess runners today! That weather looked brutal!
My house wife life (jen) here on UA-cam used to vlog her races, before and after. I was always so amazed by all the people that attended, it really is a huge event. It looks like a ton of fun and a great excuse to plan a trip to Disney! Great job on your medals btw! You earned them!
Yes! I wish I'd vlogged my earlier races, but I didn't get confident enough in vlogging and running until my half marathons last year. I was too worried about getting swept before that! And absolutely true - it's a really fun excuse to visit Disney and come home with some awesome bling in the process!
Thanks for sharing the advice! I did all the princess races this February as my very first races and slept the rest of the day after the half and was so super sore the next few days afterward. I'm doing all 3 princess races in 2018 as well as the full marathon in January and I'm definitely going to try going to the parks after to avoid the stiffness and soreness!
You're welcome! Congrats on completing those races and the Glass Slipper! That's impressive! Hope returning to the parks will help with that stiffness... I know it made a huge difference for me! My feet may have hurt, and I may not have been moving quickly... but moving made all the difference!
Thank you for this video! I'm thinking about doing the princess challenge in 2020 and was wondering how hard it was to stay on pace and not get swept AND get photos with characters!
Thanks for the info! This next Princess Half will be my very first half marathon, and I'm super nervous, but stoked! This was incredibly helpful! And way to go on all your runs!
Ahhhh you will have a blast! The WDW Half/Princess Half course is my favorite that I've done. It just seems to go by quickly thanks to having Magic Kingdom right at the half-way point. So glad the video helped, and hope you have an amazing experience!
Ahhh! That's excellent to hear. Thank you! Best of luck on your marathon - wish I had the mental strength to complete that one, but it's just beyond my patience. LOL
Thanks for doing this video! I did the Dark Side 5K in April and I'm doing the Food and Wine 10K in November. Your advice is very helpful and I wish I had this before the run last Spring. Keep up the great work!
Wow, you really have done a lot of Disney races! Great video. I haven't done any 5 K's with Disney, but I have done one 10K (Disney 10K Classic in 2002), 3 Half Marathons (Star Wars Dark Side twice, and Wine & Dine once), and the Disney Marathon seven times (first time was 2003, last time was 2017). And I'm registered for the marathon again in 2019.
I went a little crazy there for a while since I was living in Orlando. Made it much easier to do the races! The 5ks are just pure fun. No stress! Wowww. 7 Marathons?! That's amazing. Props to you - half marathon is plenty for me. Can't imagine doubling that!
This is a great vlog for all those interested in doing runDisney. Those balloon ladies are quite terrifying! I walked the Avengers Half last year 10 months after destroying my knee. I was fortunate enough to have a decent corral placement fthat put me 2 corrals ahead of them and I kept my pace up as fast as I could. I finally saw them at mile 12.5 but I knew I was safe by then because I was back on the DL parking lots. But still so scary to actually see them!! Never again do I want to see them!!! Had it not been for my decent corral, I would have been swept and lost my legacy status for both the Avengers half and the Infinity Gauntlet. Agree with the whole keep moving part - when I do halfs at home I rest and am miserable for a few days. When doing Disney, the parks and movement definitely helped so much!!!! Tip - As for wearing medals, be careful when wearing multiple medals. People love to hear the clanking of the metal but it can scratch the medals which I can't stand. We typically wear the medal that is for the biggest accomplishment (the challenge medal or C2C medal) and bring the others for pictures. Thanks again for another great vlog!
Thank you!!! Oh MAN! I know that fear. I didn't realize I was that close to them before waiting to see the grave diggers during the 10-miler, and then I had to make a port-a-potty stop shortly after. As I got to Mile 7, I was slowing down thanks to the dang blister developing on my toe and then heard a commotion behind me. It was the balloon ladies approaching! I took off running through the pain and just booked it the rest of the way. LOL Very true about the clanking medals too. We typically put ours on for pictures, then like you said - the biggest accomplishment remains!
Thanks for all the information. Great job to you and your mom for doing all those races! That's impressive 😀 I'm doing the Virtual Running Shorts Series this summer with my dog. It's a 5K that you can do in your own city as you probably already know. One of my sons and my oldest grandson did it with us. They did great but my dog and I were exhausted! I didn't know there is a time limit. Good to know.
Thank you for this! I am planning to do the half-marathon next January (my first ever) and I can't wait. I've had it on my mind since we honeymooned at WDW during marathon weekend about 20 years ago...and it's now or never!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! My husband and I are running our first Run Disney race during Wine and Dine. I will be sure to put your tips to use! ºoº
Thank you so much for such great video! I see there is a Tier 1, 2 and 3 registration (each with different dates and rates). I don't have running experience so I first want to train a little before committing to a Disney race, but I'm not sure if I need to buy a ticket on the first day of Tier 1 or if I can wait a few weeks... do you have any suggestions? I'm looking at hopefully doing one of the 2021 Princess events.
Honestly, I retired from runDisney events in 2017 after moving to Houston - I’m sure there’s a whole new system for registrations now that I’m just not familiar with anymore! I hope you’re able to find the answer to your question!
Would really like to do the princess 5k one day. Are the photopass pictures worth it? Wondering if i should plan on getting memory maker. Was hoping to stop for some character photos but really don’t want to wait too long so may have to skip those
It's really a crap shoot with the photopass during these events. I've never stopped for character pictures personally, but I know the "action" shots have drastically varied. My first half marathon I purchased the photos and had a ton to choose from! Then the next year I did the Star Wars half in Florida and.... not ONE picture of me from the entire race. But you can always order your pictures after the race once you see what they captured!
Glad to hear this video is still helpful - I know runDisney is VERY different these days! I tried to come back from runDisney retirement to do the 2023 WDW Half, and every race sold out before my spot in the queue after I waited something like 3 hours. Not sure I want to return now!
Very interesting! All those medals! 🎖🏅 With me not being a morning person, getting up a 2am would do me in! 😆😴 Plus I have anxiety and I don't know if I could handle those crowds of people. I'm fine in theme parks but it sounds like there's a lot of people in a smaller space than the parks. 😨 But hats off to those morning people who love doing it. 🎩❤ But I enjoyed hearing about your experiences and seeing your medals. 🏅🎖
I'm not a morning person either, so trust me when I say the wakeup calls are my LEAST favorite part. I struggle so hard trying to get to sleep! The races ARE very crowded though - not even going to try to sugar coat that. But at least you're all going the same direction! LOL.
Thank you thank you thank you for doing this video! You are so inspiring to me with your running. I think my main fear is running in public and being too slow, but it doesn't sound like that will be a problem based on your tips. I really want to do this and get over my fear of it. I know that the races sell out fast. How do you find out about sign-up times so you don't miss out? I really want to do a 5k. Thank you Liz!!!!!!!! 😀
You're welcome! runDisney is the most friendly running event I've done - absolutely open to everyone. With the majority of the super serious runners in the early corrals, those of us just starting or in the slower realm are surrounded by other people in the same boat. So there's lot of encouragement, and I've never felt judged! You can do it! The runDisney website announces the dates/registration pretty far in advance, so it's helpful to keep an eye on their site and then just add those dates to your own calendar with a reminder! If you sign up for runDisney emails, they will also email you dates/reminders!
Would you recommend visiting the Disney parks before or after your race?? I want to do the Disney World Half Marathon in January 2020 but also want to visit the parks as a vacation! I don’t want to tire myself out before the race but don’t know if I’ll be so pooped after the race! HELP!
I highly recommend doing the parks AFTER the race. Doing too much walking/days at the parks beforehand will tire you out. BUT - I absolutely recommend hitting the parks after the race. Especially that day after you've had a chance to shower and have a meal. After my first half marathon, I went back to my apartment and lounged all day. For DAYS afterwards, I was super stiff/sore! After my second half marathon, we were at Disneyland so I didn't want to miss out on park time. We spent the afternoon at the parks, and just took it slow/easy. My feet were hurting by that night, but when I woke up the next morning... I felt pretty normal! So for every half after that, I hit the parks afterwards and felt great! Continuing to move really does help with recovery. Make sure you have the proper shoes, socks, clothes, etc to avoid any blisters or other things that would damper the rest of your trip, and you'll be fine!
I have not seen anyone sharing how long does it take to finish 5k, after the pictures and everything? Of course everyone will run in different pase but when last corral finishes and has time for pics what time is it? Does it end before park opens? I will be running my first 5k in January 2019 and have no idea how to plan the day. Friend is also running half marathon any idea when that sort of 'closes'? Races start at 5:30am (planned). Thanks! Love your videos!
So for the 5Ks, they're pretty lenient. The 5Ks must finish before park open, but there's plenty of time for that since it's just a 5K and they start them super early. My slowest 5K involved a lot of stopping for pictures in pretty much every country (but not waiting in line for characters), and I finished in 55 minutes. There were still plenty of people finishing after me. I can't say this for certain since the 5Ks aren't timed, but my guess is you've got maybe 75-90 minutes of time to complete the race. As far as I know, they don't sweep anyone for the 5ks, but I'm sure they'll hurry you along if you're loitering TOO much. I think for a Half Marathon starting at 5:30, you'll have to finish by 9:30 or 10 a.m. BUT - the Half Marathons do have sweep points. I've seen people in results with times that say 4-4.5 hours, but those people had to have been in an early corral. There's no way you'll make it past the sweep points at that pace if you're in one of the last corrals. If your friend sees the infamous "balloon ladies" pass her, that means she's at risk for getting swept and she needs to stay in front of them!
DiscoLiz Thanks a lot for the answer. I don't think she is at a risk of being swept, asked more so we can plan the day and know more or less what time we realistically will be back at the hotel, rest and go back out.
No problem! I started my races about 45 minutes after the official start time... I was typically a few corrals up from the last group. I was typically done by about 9 or 9:30 am!
Wish I had taken the Disney runs more seriously because these sounds super fun and I was wanting to maybe do one at the end of 2018 but I know u said most of the registrations were closed
Thank you so much for all that information. One question, how do you find the photos that are taken during the run? Do you need Memory Maker or can you just find them online? Thanks!
So I might be wrong on this since it's been over a year since I've done a race now, but when they switched to the photopass photographers in 2016, we were given a code to enter on the photopass site to access our photos. Once there, I'm sure they have photo deals just like normal on PhotoPass. I only did one race with this system (prior to that Disney used outside vendors for photography), and I didn't have a single picture of me taken... My mom only had one! Seems like they've improved since then, but it was a disappointing start.
Hi Liz, thank you for this video! I’m thinking of doing a 5k with my daughter. I really wanted to do a 10k but I can’t seem to register for the 10k without having to register for the half marathon and I’m not ready for that quite yet. My question is, if I have a certified time but she doesn’t, can she still be placed in the same corral as I? And, are certified times required to be in a better corral? Thank you and have a magical New Year!
Ah yes, sounds like the 10K is already sold out then! There's no proof of time for the 5Ks - they're not actually timed. They're just considered fun runs! I believe they leave a field available to type in your estimated mile time. Certified times are required for better corrals on the longer races, however! There's no guarantee you'll be placed in the same corral, but say you're placed in Corral B and she's placed in Corral D - you're allowed to drop down to her corral and join her! She can't jump up to yours, but you're allowed to move down. Make sense? You guys will have a blast - the 5Ks are super low key and fun!
I wish I could answer this for you, but they’ve changed registration drastically since my last race. I tried to register for the 2023 WDW Half, but was unsuccessful. Hopefully someone else can answer for you!
I did! I typically wore earbuds in one ear and left the other one out to hear those around me. It’s tight quarters, so you need to be aware of people being close or giving alerts about passing! But I can’t run without music!
@@DiscoLiz thank you so so much. I am going to check that out. I love all you bling, you are inspiring. I made my first disney run vidoe so excited ua-cam.com/video/G5Gs8J303I8/v-deo.html
I’m also in Texas . When does the registration open ? January ? I wanted to register but didn’t realize it sells out so fast I checked the site it’s all sold out for 2018
Which race are you trying to enter? They typically open registration 6-10 months prior to the race (it has varied over the years). The only race left for 2018 will be Wine & Dine weekend.
DiscoLiz I looked I thought it said it was all sold out it was kinda confusing tho... and I was probly looking for the Disney world but I guess it’s sold out . So registration usually opens around feb/March?
It depends on which race you're wanting to do. There's currently four different race weekends at WDW. I believe registration for the January races starts soon!
Hi, I am looking into doing the food and wine run in November. This will be my first run so i am thinking of doing the 5K run so I was wondering can I just do only one run or do i need to do the others? Also how is the 5K run? Is it intense or more relaxing compare to the other races? Thank you : )
You can just do the 5K if you want - you don't have to do all of them. The 5Ks are SUPER relaxed. It's just for fun, and there's no worry of getting swept as long as you're moving forward and not spending too much time loitering. It's a great way to get started with runDisney.
Ugh, I wish I could help! It’s crazy these days! I used to register in advance with my AP, but it’s an outright battle to get a spot in modern runDisney!
Wish I could be more helpful with this, but they've changed things a lot since my last race in 2016! I would search the runDisney site and see what their current method is!
I believe they did for the 5ks way back when? But not for the longer races. I'm not sure if they're still allowed these days - it's been a while since I've done a 5K!
I have a rule. "No Medal, No Entry." If they don't give Finisher Medals, I will not enter.
It's always nice to get some bling at the end!
Thanks this was nice....I am a long time run Disney volunteer and it is nice to hear your side of the event....today I am recovering from the Princess Half, ( as a water stop volunteer ). I love Disney! I haven't done the Disney Run but I will try next year!
Keep up the Great Work!💯👍😁
That sounds like a great plan - the Disney races are just super fun. Such a different/positive atmosphere!

Great video Liz. I am doing a marathon later this year and this is a great video even if your not running a run Disney event.
Ahhh! That's excellent to hear. Thank you! Best of luck on your marathon - wish I had the mental strength to complete that one, but it's just beyond my patience. LOL

I love the Marathon weekend, I did the 5k in 2015 and 2016, I did the 10k in 2016 and 2017, Now I am signed up to do the Half Marathon in 2018!
Niiiiice! I love that weekend too. I've done everything except the actual Marathon for that weekend!
I'm doing the Princess in 2019 :)
Oooh! Best of luck to you! I know you'll have a blast :)
Hi aliCaT, I am thinking of signing up for the Princess. Its so expensive but its my dream race.
Awesome video! I really would love to do a RunDisney race someday
Highly recommend it, even if it's a 5K - Disney does not disappoint, and running through the parks is just an entirely new way to experience them!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge! My husband and I are running our first Run Disney race during Wine and Dine. I will be sure to put your tips to use! ºoº
You are very welcome! Hope you have a fantastic experience - there's nothing quite like runDisney, and something tells me you'll be addicted!
Awesome video! So helpful and informative, I've just signed up for a 5k to break myself in.
Thank you!!! I loved my runDisney experiences, so I'm glad to be able to help! You will LOVE it I'm sure!

Good information! Brian is thinking about a half.
He should do it!! Totally different way to see Epcot :)

You can always register for 2019! Start prepping now. LOL!
DiscoLiz definetly planning on it!! Just trying to figure out how exactly I'm gonna train for it
Thank you so much for all that information.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks!! :D
DiscoLiz Thank you for your reply! We are starting out slow although she’s much faster than I am. I can’t wait and thank you for the motivation!
When doing registration can you sign up two people at once or do you need to go through the que twice?
I wish I could answer this for you, but they’ve changed registration drastically since my last race. I tried to register for the 2023 WDW Half, but was unsuccessful. Hopefully someone else can answer for you!
Do you listen to music during the race? For the half marathon
I did! I typically wore earbuds in one ear and left the other one out to hear those around me. It’s tight quarters, so you need to be aware of people being close or giving alerts about passing! But I can’t run without music!
Are there any online communities for rundisney? I am new to disney runs but i am a runner. Thanks for the video.
Team RunDisney is a pretty big Facebook group for rundisney! Check that one out!
DiscoLiz oh and do you get a free ticket to the park when it opens ?
DiscoLiz oh and how much are they usually for 13 mile I didn’t see any prices
It depends on which race you're wanting to do. There's currently four different race weekends at WDW. I believe registration for the January races starts soon!
Anyone doing the Princess Half, 2021?
Hi, I am looking into doing the food and wine run in November. This will be my first run so i am thinking of doing the 5K run so I was wondering can I just do only one run or do i need to do the others? Also how is the 5K run? Is it intense or more relaxing compare to the other races? Thank you : )
You can just do the 5K if you want - you don't have to do all of them. The 5Ks are SUPER relaxed. It's just for fun, and there's no worry of getting swept as long as you're moving forward and not spending too much time loitering. It's a great way to get started with runDisney.
How bout a tip on how to register. Evertine i log on 5 mins after its sold out. Wtf??
Ugh, I wish I could help! It’s crazy these days! I used to register in advance with my AP, but it’s an outright battle to get a spot in modern runDisney!
I really enjoyed this video 🙂
Thanks!!
How do you submit proof of time?
Wish I could be more helpful with this, but they've changed things a lot since my last race in 2016! I would search the runDisney site and see what their current method is!
DiscoLiz thank you!
Thanks very helpful
You're welcome! Glad to help :)
Do ppl take kids in strollers?
I believe they did for the 5ks way back when? But not for the longer races. I'm not sure if they're still allowed these days - it's been a while since I've done a 5K!
Thanks for the tips
You're welcome!!
I'm a mail carrier, I think I can do it with out training 😋
You probably could!! You're already trained. LOL
DiscoLiz, for this 2018 there will be no rundisney in Anaheim, right?
That's true - after I filmed this video, they canceled all the Anaheim races for 2018 and the foreseeable future!
awesome great respect XUK
Thanks Diane!!
