ESPN Track & Field - PS2 (2000)

Hey wait this is from Konami? Go figure. It's pretty varied as far as sports games go, and the character models and movements are very realistic. There was a clear intent to simulate these sports with lifelike accuracy, but gameplay wise they rely too much on quickly alternating O and X, it really destroyed my fingers out trying everything. I had fun with the skeet shooting and gymnastic events.

Lolol dude I literally just left a similar comment on a Tokyo 2020 Olympic video for PS4. Whats crazy is I also had that magazine all the way until about 2 years ago. I would periodically read through it every few years thinking I can't believe how I use to think it looked so realistic. I remember there was a Snowboarding game in that magazine that also looked realistic at the time lol. I actually thought it was an Olympic game...It was track and field

The graphics aren't as great looking now, but, the gameplay and overall presentation hold up well. Same for Athens 2004

3:17 there's a real sprinter from Trinidad named Ato Bolden. That makes me wonder if they used real people in this game to be the athletes. It seems like it would be hard to get permission from that many athletes in that many sports to use their likenesses.

Ive wondered that too. Ato Boldon, Maurice Greene and American hurdler Larry Wade are real athletes featured. I want to say an American pole vaulter was featured as well, but I'm not sure.
The three aforementioned athletes appear in behind the scenes footage, where they're wearing mocap suits
