The cover alone... I was buying a memory card on eBay, where the whole match was modified/patched and you had all the original league names, including all the players. Besides the Adidas shoes already available, you could also choose players to wear Nike shoes. As a German, it was important to me that the Bundesliga was available! You could also choose the way to control the players. I did it just like it was on FIFA. If you were a pro at ProEvo, no FIFA player could beat you. FIFA 06 was so heavily scripted! FIFA in general back then! I was totally surprised by the difference to today. I stopped playing FIFA at the 11 edition for the 360. Today, the gameplay of FIFA feels like that of PES on modern generation platforms. The KI actions by the player that you're under were basically eliminated. You're in total control of your player. It makes it way more harder to defend today. Back then it felt like the KI of the defending player you're under control, is doing 70% of the job. I hope you get what I mean. But PES 5 was definitely the best football simulator at this time!!

Damn, in 2005 I was 18yo, playing this game with my two best friends for literally thousands of hours, even winning the local PES tournaments. Some really nice memories. 🥰

Which PES had the 2 player head to head stats/records that kept a tally of all wins for each player etc? A mate of mine thinks it was PES 4 but I'm sure it was PES 5?
In my opinion while PES wasn't as successful as the FIFA series, the graphics were far superior. For example the players looked more realistic as did the gameplay.

@@H.L.S.98 between 2004-2007 Pro evolution socer had fifa beat on gameplay. Only problem was the features and sponsors and manager mode.
