For anyone that is curious, the guy to the very right on the couch in the pink shirt is singer/songwriter extraordinaire Jonathan Richman. What a great, eclectic group of guests this show had on during it's run.
Jello Biafra; a philosopher for our times! I had the golden opportunity to see him live on a spoken word tour about seven yrs ago; not long after I had the DK logo tatted on my left arm and wear it proudly today!!
I remember years ago when Jello was on a show called The Rock N Roll Evening News debating some old lady who had written a book on occult symbolism in rock music. I expected him to be some kind Sid Vicious burnout junkie, but to my surprise he was incredibly intelligent and just destroyed the woman. Been a fan ever since!
I'd love to know what they thought of each other! - Jello is of course as idealistic as Jonathan, but all that rage and sneer and sarcasm must've been less than appealing to someone who had seen it all before (as a huge Velvet Underground fan, having turned away from that sound early).
I don't know... if it is Jonathan Richman, I'll have to change my pants. What an awesome episode of After Dark this must have been! God knows if it has survived in its entirety. John Cale, Jello Biafra... and possibly Jonathan Richman!
That easy for me to do, huh? I actually got most of the interviews (on this channel) straight from Donnie's own personal archive... if he can't get the entire show, I doubt very much that I'm in power of getting the show. That is unless somebody in Australia had recorded the program at the time and has no idea that people may want to see it. Let's hope so...
@portrra oh yeah, he did tour Australia around '83.... The entire show exists, but the man who has the only existing tape, has informed me that he will burn it before it ever gets up on youtube. He was serious too, so I'm not messing with that....
@80smoviesguy you're original post is 'ug, god, the bee gees are just awful'. The fact you deleted it indicates you really did think that was the Bee Gees. Ha ha
the band minus jello is coming to australia this year its probably booked you have to be 18 and it wont be too good but if you can go it might be an experience for somone who hasnt been to many good concerts
I thought he was only speaking about the Queensland police. But hey, if the police in one state are dicks, then I guess that speaks for all police across the country...
Jello's ways of explaining things is priceless

@fenderozzman
the opening song - the theme song of AFTER DARK for 4 years - is Breakin' In My Heart by Tom Verlaine.
Jello Baifra 2021 i still listening to his music punk rock Forever Golden blessings to the Dead Kennedy's Rawhide
yeah... today, he sort of looks more like an ageing hippy from the 60's than an ageing punk from the 80's....
I met somebody who has this entire episode. He is a friend of Donnie's and wont let it out. The negative side of dealing with old school mentalities.
Jello is the man
