My LP of this performance (plus the other minor-key concerto, no 20 in d with the same performers) has been a treasured possession for many years. Both Haskil and Markevitch seem to me to have the perfect way with Mozart.
I don't know, I like this better on period instruments. The Allegro feels too run-of the-mill and is lacking that haunting, slow, chilling pace. The guttural, almost pulsing feeling on the period instrument that give it a mysteriously hauting sound are not present in the new at all, even in Perahia's recording, which I thought was the best on modern instruments. Also at 10:24 It should be obvious thatt the arpeggio is to continue and close out, but for some reason this is ignored. So yeah, the recording is good, but not as good. I will admit though, that the cadenza is really good.
Yes I noticed that as well. I actually had to laugh...... The guy is at times just banging along. But in his defense it could be also a recording issue, placement of the mikes, there is a lot of rumble and stuff going on in the background. Thank God Clara Haskil was oblivious to it all.
Beethoven reportedly remarked to a colleague that "[w]e shall never be able to do anything like that." When a guy like Beethoven says something like that, which he hardly ever did, you should take note.
The ending in minor is one of the best parts of the concerto. I don’t know what you’re on about. I like no. 20 but its themes especially the second ones in each mvmt are too cookie cutter standard for my taste while these aren’t
Surely one of the greatest of Mozart interpreters. Everything is so natural, unforced and right.
She does a fine job but she misses a note in that first solo in movt 1
My favorite Mozart piano concerto
His best work hands down
His best work?! Oh boy! That's hard to say. 😬👀
Thank you so much for this upload of my favorite Mozart piano concerto by played by one of my most beloved pianists.
Post more Mozart! You've got the best recordings, descriptions and overall aesthetics!

20:00 only could have been done by Mozart, such delight
Ineffably sublime. Thank you for posting the score along with the recording.
True, Mozart is nothing more than children's tunes, scales, and arpeggios...but they work so well together the total narrative is a miracle.
È tutta una meravigliosa danza dalla prima
all' ultima misura.

PAROLE SANTE.
Thank you so much. Wonderful performance
De mis favoritos
Clara ❤
È pazzesco... ma quanto sei stupendo???
10:48 Cadenza of 1 mvt.
28:06 Cadenza of 3 mvt.
The third movement is sounding like Bourree
7:39... ❤

23:56 les clarinettistes !
0:28 Always found the extra repetition of the motive in exposition here kinda awkward
Why?
...awkard is the way you listen to it.
In yellow
Yellow with Black. Flag colors of Austria in Mozart's days.
@@bartjebartmans nice didn’t catch that, the color looks nice though

That timpanist is a little overenthusiastic. Or perhaps it was Markevitch... No blending with the Trumpets at all.

It's an okay piano concerto. I don't know why Mozart chose to end this in minor. I prefer number 20 better. Overall, not too bad.

This is such a ridiculous comment I laughed.
Wow this guy has an opinion on classical music let’s jump him
"it's an okay piano concerto"? Bro this is one of the greatest piano concertos ever written.
