I wonder tho, are they trying to make him the next villian, now hear me out, bison is dead (also the illuminati) and physco power is no longer hoarded by 1 person but despite that we have Ed and a new physo user (who is theorised to be a teacher of rose and bison) so physco power of the evil essence of it still exists, perhaps Eliza tragically died (along with the son or not if they want him as a fighter too) and unlike ryu who would evolved and become less alone with people he can trust (he technically hasn't had something taken away from him that he cared about) Ken could go through a reverse where he had it all but it was aruptly taking away but he cannot live through it so he goes through the any means to get it back even if it may make him into violent ken in the process. It is just a theory

If I recall, it was Ken’s father who sent him to train under Gouken so he could learn disapline and respect. Fun fact: Ken’s wife, Eliza, has a sister who is married to Guile.
And Guile's puppy dog which can be seen in his ending is related to the dog in the Bay Area of Final Fight (precisely in the fifth level of the game)
Also, Guile's little daughter is Dutta's penfriend (Dutta is Dhalsim's son) 😂

holy moly I remember playing *street fighter: legend of the ansatsuken* on flash back in 2006 and thought the game was a fanmade story.
"Domestic violent" Ken?! OH HELL NO
I'm not even a fan of Ken, but he didn't deserve to be done dirty like this.
"You fight well, but what are you fighting for? Money, fame, the attention?"; Ken replies that he's fighting to defeat "a certain man", and that he won't stop until he does so, and then a pleased Eliza tells him her name. Eliza fell in love with him for who he is she literally supported him every single time he joined the tournament hell she even told him to join one of the street fighter tournaments even though she was pregnant. It would be 100% out of character for her to just leave ken. Most likely it's because gouken is dead that ken looks the way he does if anything she probably encouraged him to go out and work through his problems.

Looking at his and Ryu’s design next to each other, my theory is Gouken died, Ryu pays homage, wearing a kasaya, generally taking the news well, and Ken…is not.

@@zakuronakashima exactly. Kinda took Guile’s advice and became a family man, and you can see it in his endings. SF2 Got married. SF4 had a kid. SFV brings family with him to party where he hopes to see and fight Ryu and accepts that he didn’t come there, and some time after, he extends his family with the Matsudas, taking Sean as an apprentice. SF3 training Mel while on vacation with the fam, and doesn’t Shinryuken Mel for punching him in the dick, annnd wins American tournament and the family rejoices. He tried to give Sean the trophy, but he rejects, but still, it’s all smiles, so why would they go back on all the family stuff now?

yeah max talked about this, he said the leaks sounded like some random dude that saw ken's design and came up with this random shit.
This has an opportunity to make Ken's story mode in Street Fighter VI one of redemption. How Ken through his string of fights to his ultimate showdown with Ryu will bring him up from his low point. And just maybe Eliza along with Mel will be waiting for him at the end of it all....sort of like Guile's ending in SF II with his wife and daughter.

It would sweet if Ken had some interactions with recent Cody in SF6, the current/former Mayor of Metro City knowing how it feels to have a downturn. Narratively it would be wonderful _if_ Cody was both playable _and_ in Ken's story mode... somehow.

Hasbro never produced Barbie and Ken dolls. Mattel produces Barbie and Ken dolls. Hasbro produced the Street Fighter G.I. Joe figures and were afraid of a law suit from Mattel, so requested Capcom give Ken a last name.

Domestic Violent Ken reminds me of a cage match in No Mercy where I played as Debra and my friend was Stone Cold. I won.
I don't really like the idea of Ken's family leaving him. I think that having a family life is what completes him as a person and keeps him from becoming too obsessed with training, fighting, and winning, which is why the Satsui no Hado was never a temptation for him. It's what separates him from the likes of Ryu and Akuma who only live for fighting. If they take that away, it's taking away the heart of the character.
While Guile is considered to be the "family man" of the Street Fighter franchise, Ken's family life has actually received a lot more focus. Most fans know Eliza and Mel, but how many people can even name Guile's wife and daughter? Yes, I know that Eliza and Guile's wife are sisters, but that just goes to show that even Guile's family is an extension of Ken's.

Speaking of the street fighter animated series, it's part of one of my favorite stories about my dog. My brother and I were watching an episode where guile says to, I believe, M. Bison, " you want action? I'll show you action!". Immediately after we heard a loud BLLAAAUUUUGGGHH from my dog in the back room. The timing was perfect. We both laughed our asses off as we went to see if the dog was okay. He was fine, just some grass he ate outside and he looked up sadly at us. We cleaned up the dog barf and gave him a hug, laughing the entire time. Poor dog didn't know what the hell our problem was.

The word ken means Sword in Japanese or Ken can mean Fist. Ken is also a standard Japanese unint of measurement. Ken can also mean Strong.
Ken from Street Fighter is 拳, which means "fist". Ryu is 隆, which means "prosperity".

Whoa, whoa, slow your roll man. Hasbro was making the Street Fighter toys, while rival toy company Mattel made Barbie and Ken. It is unconfirmed if giving the surname Masters was to differentiate himself from their competitors toy line or not.
Also, while Ken looks like something real is going on in his life in SF6, it's still unconfirmed as to what.
You're correct about it being Mattel and not Hasbro. What I'd heard is that Hasbro had to give Ken a last name due to Mattel having the trademark on just "Ken" for their (for some reason) G.I. Joe Street Fighter action figures. Some of the other characters were given full names, too, but Ken's is the only one that stuck around and became official. (E.g., I don't think Ryu Hoshi, Chun-Li Xiang, and Colonel Willam F. Guile are canon.)

(I'm not a lawyer, so you'd probably find a better explanation of the difference with a search engine than anything I could provide.) Capcom would already have had copyright protection for Ken as soon as they released the first Street Fighter game. (Many years ago you needed to register for a copyright and periodically renew it, but not anymore.)
Trademark narrowly applies to a specific industry, which is why both Apple Music and Apple Computers were both allowed to be called "Apple", since they were in different industries. (This was decided, of course, before Apple had iTunes, etc.)
In the case of Ken Masters, there was already another toy called "Ken", so Hasbro may have been prevented from also releasing a toy simply called "Ken". (And it's not necessarily that Mattel complained or sued, just that someone at Hasbro saw a potential issue and made a decision in order to avoid it.)
In the 80s, both Transformers and GoBots (which were at this point owned by competing companies) would have toys with identical names on the market at the same time. (E.g., both had characters named "Blaster".) I'm not sure why this was allowed back then but not now. I don't know if a law changed or if just nobody noticed back then or just didn't think it was worth complaining about.
21:50 The Player 8 alt is actually based on the secret 7th alternate color found in Street Fighter 3 3rd Strike. It’s accessed by pressing L punch, M kick, & H punch at the same time when selecting Ken.
Weird to refer to Ryu and Ken as “athletes” as opposed to martial artists…technically they are “athletic” and ken competes in rules based martial arts tournaments, but to call them athletes makes you think he’s a baseball player or something like that 😂

Saying it in that manner denotes that they’re involved in an official organised sports set up, with rules and regulations displaying some kind of athletic ability. Street fighter is not that, it’s an almost unofficial martial arts tournament with no rules (lore wise) that is set up to either knock your opponent out or “k-ll them” (akuma thinking he’d k’lld bison). Even though these contestants are athletic it’s not a test of athletics it’s a test of martial arts, which will reign supreme and who is truly the best. Calling them athletes robs street fighter of it’s essence

- his business company is in bankrupt (dunno whats his company or so)
- his karate career is over or whatsoever
or
- divorced
- Eliza and Mel got killed and Ken is underwent deep depression and we might witness the canon Violent Ken

If you can imagine the name of a person or thing getting mangled, it will be. @@davideselvi3906 I'm not sure if you're joking or not, but regarding that, at least the dictator is known as "M. Bison" in English-speaking territories, officially by Capcom, so that's different from just plain mispronunciation. Still, it's true that the boxer is the real Mike Bison, a take on Mike Tyson but Capcom was nervous about being sued in the US. (He is still known a "Mike" in Street Fighter 1, though! Yep, they're the same although people are led to believe that they are two different characters.)
I'm looking forward for some kind of redemption for this "Punished" Ken Masters. ;x
I prefer to think that in S6, the big baddie has gotten their hands on Ken's family and he's gone John Wick to get them back. Ken'll likely enlist the aid of his friend, Ryu, and the two are likely cleaning house to find where Ken's wife/children are being held. Because of that, we'll see embrace his more violent self - because he isn't looking to spar with Ryu this time around, he's going for the jugular of whoever took his family.
Add Guile into the mix as the muscle and set in Metro City, you basically get Final Fight 4

I just wanted to say that it's bizarre that someone would say, "From the guy who leaked street fighter 6," when street fighter 6 wasn't leaked, the characters were. And if that were going to happen, why wouldn't he tell us himself about what happened to Ken? Obviously, the whole divorce thing is a hoax. Ken's not wearing dog tags, Mel wouldn't have dog tags, and the hoax makes no mention of the belt on Ken's arm, which he is wearing to honor someone close to him who has died. C'mon, guys... seriously.

find it interesting he dyes his hair,with how he just skips out on the 1st game(like to think with his promise to eliza he's the one that won the tournament with how ,how he and ryu are like brothers especially in the animated movie(love which influenced the alpha series like ryu fighting a brainwashed ken,ken being insecure about his rivalry & how ryu got his headband.) & 2v(find it funny in alpha 3 he helps karins development with how much his 2v version was karin with how hilariously rich he was.), his relationship with eliza/mel and like his look in 5(wish we saw him and ryu fought m. bison like the animated movie's final battle only with chun li joining in.) fitting his personality and sean being introduced by ken saving him from f.a.n.g/seeing him team up with his sister to save the world(hope we see sean & laura training with ken,mel/eliza and their families in 6.)
also love violent ken way more than evil ryu as i like it's appearances in svc chaos(remember people use to think he had oorochi power when it was coming out/how goenitz was in the roster though would be cool seeing that in the next snk vs. capcom.) & project x zone(especially recreating the animated movies final battle.) and super smash bros.(love reuben came back to voice him as that man perfectly fits him as well as dante & looks like a spitting image of them/would love both to show up in the next vs. game for a joke about it.)
though didn't like it in ultra street fighter(was a pointless skin and should've been an alpha character like dan,sakura,karin or r. mika.) and the comics(felt it could've been introduced better as the crossover felt rushed though like eliza,ryu,dan and sakura trying to help him.).

I'd rather Capcom ignore this whole violent Ken bit, as it makes him too much like Ryu with him having his Evil Ryu form. Ken being more of the every man of the two kept them different personality wise. Ken likes fighting, but he doesn't eat sleep and breath it the way Ryu does, so it made sense Ryu would be slightly better, but always plagued with where does this path of power lead him. Ken having a life outside of fighting helped ground him and keep him from being sucked into darkness like Ryu. Ken is a well adjusted person compared to Ryu who may be a better fighter, but really has a kind of sad life. Ryu won the Tournament..but Ken won at life.
I don't mind Ken being challenged as a character, but I'd rather comes from life beating him down than some supernatural alternate self taking over. I think years of being second fiddle to Ryu(But Ryu still is outpaced by Oro, Akuma and Goken for most of the series...as there's always a larger fish.) but never putting the effort/lacking obessive nature to cross the rubicons Ryu has would be enough to do that to him. This kind of thing makes people find their own self destructive tendencies which is enough to knock them down for a bit. Ultimately Ken should make his way back, but I prefer it all be based on his own humanity than some cop out like brainwashing or dark versions of him. It makes for a much stronger and identifible story as we all fall down and make mistakes.
This. You sum up why Ryu and Ken have one of the best rivalry in fighting games!

Ken falling on some hard times
Ken's journey is a fascinating one. I'm honestly curious if similarly to Sagat in V, the Satsui No Hadou tries to take hold. Maybe for a time Ken actually gives in to "the Dark Side".

Considering how we see the idea of Violent Ken floating around in different media (games, comics, anime) but never see it applied to the actual SF canon it's possible what we're seeing with Ken in SF6 is his gradual downfall into Violent Ken. Rather than him suddenly transforming from happy go lucky good guy Ken to Violent Ken out of the blue they could be gradually building up to it with him becoming washed up and it is in this vulnerable state that he eventually becomes brainwashed/possessed/manipulated (perhaps by the ghost of Bison) into becoming Violent Ken.

i prefer the idea of ken being more involved with sean and mel as a mentor while ryu continues searching for (or perfecting) Nothingness as his main story. i hope the violent ken story would remain non-canon with the way he was built from the beginning (marriage, having a kid, mentor, etc...) now with the whole dog tag thing with mel, i fear that will be what has become of ken.

Street Fighter II Ken's portrait looked like martial arts actor Gary Daniels which was interesting because Gary Daniels would be in the movie Ciity Hunter starring Jacloe Chan, and their fight scene together would have them cosplaying as Street Fighter II characters with Gary cosplaying as Ken.

Interesting that the in-game story is Ken always tries to surpass his friend Ryu, but as a character from a player perspective Ken has almost always been the superior one.

That'd be a pretty dumb arc for Ken to be frank. Ken has always been a shining beacon within the SF world, where Ryu is the stoic, Chun-Li is the hero seeking vengeance, Guile is the hero born from tragedy, and Cammy is the hero who broke from the villain's control. I would personally hate to see Ken go down a depressing path like that

If this is canon in future games Ken can end up becoming a secret boss like Akuma where he just like how Akuma's first appearance in Street fighter kicks the cap out of Akuma and is revealed as Shin Ken becoming a red oni making him more violent and aggressive than ever

Hmm.. I never thought of violent ken before. In those leak images of Ken, you can see he is wearing a Black armband on his left. It's indicate that he is mourning of someone so dear to him that turn him into a hobo..
I think I read somewhere that the SF6 director, Takayama said something about people dying when he was asked about Ken's rugged face in SF6. Probably his wife or his son, or both are dead in SF6...

Maybe ken wanted gouken to critic his progress so gouken was interested in finding out too, so he fought gouken and he went to far with his firey moves and basically gouken survived but the fight took a toll on him since he didn't use the healing technique after he fought Ken. Ken maybe blamed hisself later if after the fight a few weeks later gouken died. Gouken did say that he felt he no longer needed to train Ryu and Ken.
Remember the only reason Ken got a last name in Street Fighter was basically Capcom was gonna get sue by Mattel, the creator of Barbie and Ken doll. To avoid paying royalty Capcom just added the last name Masters to Ken's name so Mattel wouldn't bother them.

ok so this isnt Canon. little misleading. I would argue that Ken would NEVER lay a hand on Eliza. Afterall, she was the only one who could break him out of the brainwashing a few times (sometimes ryu did or just beating bisons ass cured him but still)
so, I am guessing Ken's life isnt reflective of his older more rugged appearance. He is still happily married and a good father, he just has a more rugged look is all
