"Things that I didn't know about" is absolutely wonderful. Scotland has such a rich and varied history. So glad you started this and I hope you never stop.
Incredible story. I didn’t even know it was an actual person. Alexander was a pretty smart business man considering the year it occurred in. Can you imagine the business man he’d be today with the machinery and technology. ❤❤
Wonderful video! My dad's family was from Kilmarnock. A few of the men were reps for a weaving manufacturer. Nice to know the history of Johnnie Walker. There was a factory in Windsor, Ontario; across the Detroit river from Detroit, Michigan.
@@scotlandunplugged Maybe a dent but gangs would sneak crates of bottles in boats during the night to various landings along Detroit coastline. They would also hide bottles in cars coming across the border either at Detroit or up in Port Huron. There were car ferries, too and, I think, a railway tunnel under the Detroit river.
That was a Amazing piece of history Robert 👍 about the man himself, family and the sketches🥰 aww gawd love him wea a traffic cone on his heid😂 I'm Scottish but I cannae stand the smell or taste of whiskey 🤢😂 Hae a Gid Yin Robert ❤ cheers 🥃
Interesting story. Always curious about the Johnny Walker brand, (the striding man just had something about him), but never gave it much thought. Thank you Robert for sharing a story I didn't even know I wanted to know. 🤣
Okay,,, no death and religion.. but BOOZE! I'm down for that!! Although,, I'm a Jamesons girl... walker will do in a pinch. The flavored ones are quite nice on a cold evening in blustery Ohio. Please explain the traffic cone, you said it's an Edinburgh thing?? Do ALL your statues sprout traffic cone's spontaneously?? If so,, I'm intrigued...!
Last time I drank Johnnie Walker I was very drunk, on a hillside, in Tuscany. 😂 It’s a thing in Glasgow. The Duke of Wellington has had a traffic cone on his head, more or less constantly for about 40 years. It’s sort of a metaphor for the city. History, grandeur, complete lack of respect for pomposity. Even Wellington’s not allowed to get too big for his boots in Glasgow! 🙂 Other places try to copy it, which is a bit annoying 😂
@@scotlandunplugged Thank you for the explanation. I was loathe to think it was a horrible natural phenomenon of the country lest it just happen to just anyone standing in the same place too long! That being said, having only known a few actual Scotsmen in real life (I might have said, in the flesh, but didn't want you to get the wrong idea ;) and knowing they were the salt of the earth type fellows (ahem) not in any way prone to excess humor or drink (cough, cough) I can only conclude by the pure irreverence of these actions (The placing of cones on heads of statues not the issue of humor or drink) that this place you speak of.. Glasgow.. it's well.... my kind of town!! I hope you know you honestly do deserve a ton more subscribers than you have,, perhaps not as many as your bovine loving younger brother.. but a damn sight more than you have!!
Hi Robert, This reminds me of one of our local shops that has the beer and spirits in a separate room. Thanks for a really interesting story. I was saddened that Alexander died. :( I'm trying to think if I have had Johnnie Walker Red. And I can never figure out the difference between blended and malt liquor Scotch. Cheers!
A single malt is from one distillery (it can be a blend of different batches and barrels though). Legally, a blended whisky is a mix of barrel-aged malt and also grain whisky.
I remember quite a few years ago, maybe 35, that they were stopping making the Red Label, but it’s still available! Anyone know what the full story is?
I'm so glad you said this! I always picture a tour bus taking people to these different locations where they get to hear the history in person!!! 👍🏼 Sign me up!!!!
Excellent video. Interesting to learn Johnnie Walker wasn't a real person. Always thought he was. Lol Also. I sent a message on Instagram regarding the Jacobites. Hopefully it's something you're interested in

Back when I was still drinking whisky (sad words), Johnnie Walker was generally considered, well, oven cleaner. Oh, Black Label was OK but the Red Label stuff... no. Used to drink The Antiquary for preference before Marketing got hold of it, or take a flyer on Brig o'Banff. Nice to see Binn's clock again, though.

Fascinating story behind the name of such well known whisky. Thank you, Robert.
And another interesting video! Thank you.
The family, and especially Alexander, are marketing geniuses! Their whiskey is all right too, when I can't find my favorite single malts😁🥃
Loved the cone hat 😅. Thanks for sharing, Robert 👍🏻🏴
Thanks for sharing, Robert. Very interesting history. 🙂❤️

Interesting. I wonder what effect US prohibition had on that, with the location.

Oh, fun!!! Great history! Thanks!
Hi Robert. I used to drink, but no more. Scotch was one of those liquors I couldn't quite stomach. I love your history hits.
Thank you! I hardly drink myself these days. Too busy for the inevitable cost 😂
A very interesting video Robbie
Its good to know there is a story behind the striding man on the Johnnie Walker whisky bottle . Thanks for telling it.

Haha. Fair enough 🙂
his golden nectar.
