This was an outstanding interview. Do you know why? You asked a question and let him completely answer the question without interrupting him. I've watched and listened to interviewerss for decades and THE number one mistake the interviewers make (including some of the best all time interviewers) is interrupting the subject and cutting off a potentially great answer. Sometimes they want to the center of attention over the interview subject, but you resisted all those urges and knocked it out of the part. Well done Stats. Well done!
Very special guest is right. I would take Herm Edward’s take on anything. Knowledgeable, articulate, and all around good guy. Calls his good friend and teammate “Lynchburg “
Film don't lie. Pearsall is an elite route runner and catcher. He uses knowledge of leverage in schemes to drive defenders off his routes, sometimes multiple times in the same route. He's a more polished BA coming out of college. Appreciated Coach's input on Ricky's personality. Sounds like a baller for sure.
he might as well already be. such a mentor to john, in the same way that kyle is mentored by mike. i think those two have clearly left such a positive imprint on the organization indirectly, but i agree wholeheartedly he would be an amazing addition to the staff.
The “know where to miss” segment was fascinating. That’s a great example of an area a coach might see a play differently than a couch-scout or PFF grader. A guy might miss a tackle in a beneficial way
@@GoldStandardNetwork Yeah, I'd forgotten about that. I hope you keep this going. Feels natural for you, so wishing you the best. Be an unstoppable force.
I like how some people are convinced Pearsall can't be a #1 WR when he's taller, faster and has better hands than BA. He can also block and run routes close to Aiyuk's level. Some would even say he's already a better route runner (as a rookie!) than BA. If he can't become a WR1, BA is not a WR1.
😂 He knows something, had Aiyuk n Pearsall. He's a good receiver, but at 31. Nobody mock this WR to Niners in 1st rd. Isn't the draft for building the longer term. If want to replace Deebo, had bigger WR at 31. A slot WR isn't really Deebo's role. Also, why extend Jennings, draft Cowing n sign Owens son. Niners have 10 WRs for 5-6 spots. OT Williams on his last legs, trouble if hurt, didn't play well in SB. No OT liked by Niners available in draft. Weird, Niners traded pick with SB rivals, Chiefs picked an OT. WTF? Helping rivals? O-line ranked #20-28, couldn't use any help. Niners did pick some O-line help at 3rd n 6th. But talent falls in lower rds. Do Niners think they can coach up, sign 3 UFAs O-line last yr, only 2 made practice squad. Niners been using re-treads for defense last couple yrs. If play great, resign elsewhere. No consistency, constantly rebuilding. Hopefully new batch of re-treads can stop the run n bring some pass rush opposite Bosa. Defense fell to #12. But no D-line drafted. Will new DC help? Niners 21 formation (Cmc, Kitlle, Deebo, Aiyuk) was hard to defend. Could be run or pass. How will Pearsall change this? Replace Deebo? Then, why not trade Deebo. How will Cowings fit in? Replace Aiyuk? Aiyuk had only 3 targets in SB. Will another WR will beat Chiefs. Hey, Kyle/Niners must do somethings right, got to 2 SB. But as fan, with no expertise, somethings Kyle/Niners do are head scratchers. The Bears have spent seven 1st rds picks on QBs. Fields 4 yrs ago, now Willams. We'll see if any better than Fields. We'll see if Pearsall makes Niners any better.
Enough with the "swiss army knife" guys. How about a guy who is just really good at ONE position, like RT or CB? And how does a team who's philosophy is to build from the front lines out, follow that philosophy on the Defensive side but completely ignore it on the Offense?
The second best offense in the NFL must have had a pretty damn good offensive line. Quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends and wide receivers have statistics that define their play. Offensive linemen don't. Game tape is the offensive lineman's evaluator. Neither you or I have access to that or care to spend time to watch it if we could.
@@mrbigdaddyjoe79 Do you know if any of them CANT ? That’s the point. None of you know if these guys are unproven to be trying to crap over the draft. You guys are being dramatic and whining, that isn’t real fan behavior! Have your criticism, cool. But you guys have approached cry baby phase.
We wanted Fautanu and Powers Johnson, not another receiver, who wont get any PT because there are 3 guys ahead of him. Trade Debo for Powers Johnson, and I'll be happy. Not happy with the Pearsall pick at all. Trade Ayuk and a 2nd rd pick 2025 for Fautanu and I will be happy. Without a great Oline, Pearsall likely to be a non-factor.
Unfortunately niners ain’t tryna make you happy if you didn’t know we gonna run more 4/5 wr sets that’s why we got 2 wrs and didn’t worry about TE’s so much so now you will see us transitioning to more of a Pass offense

Thanks. I take pride in my interviews. It’s a skill and one that I think I’m pretty good at.
Agree. Respect the interviewee and let them answer.
Coach Edward's has always been one of my favorite personalities in the game!!!
Herman Edwards a great man and a great coach. His passion is self-evident.
Always enjoyed listening to Herm Edwards talk ball. I hope these kids pay attention when he speaks because the man is as knowledgeable as it gets
Herm is a great communicator, so much insight.
That was a cool interview, that was pure herm with no espn fluff I loved it. I can tell players had to love playing for that guy.
This was a really good interview. Herm Edwards is a great football mind, it was awesome hearing his thoughts on all things 49ers.
Man, Herm Edwards is one of the smartest football guys I've ever seen interviewed, and has incredible energy for a 70 year old.
You have no idea. The man once woke up at 3:45 AM on Thanksgiving morning to do an interview for the show I produced on ESPN Radio!
He’s one of the best!
I learned a lot from Herm. He’s like E.F. Hutton ….
Very special guest is right. I would take Herm Edward’s take on anything. Knowledgeable, articulate, and all around good guy. Calls his good friend and teammate “Lynchburg “
Just fell in like with Herm. What an amazing human!
Love every Coach Herm Interview I've ever watched
Love it! Coaches that love coaching, man i could listen to them all day.
"you play to win the game" - iconic take for coach herm.

Herm should be on the Niners' coaching staff.

This is/was an awesome interview, Rob. Herm has always been a fun guy to listen to. Big fan of the person...always have been.

Well said!
This seems like a much better gig, than the Niner Nation writing you did. Keep it up, Rob!
I still did the podcast with Niners Nation, but yes this is better!

Always liked Herm. No nonsense type guy.
This is great to hear as he said the same of Aiyuk❤
Fantastic Interview

Love Coach Herm!!! Great interview Great coach!!!
I could listen to coach Edwards talk football all day…
Great interview!
He can articulate well. Nice interview 😊
9:25 Good thing that 49ers drafted Green “the best press man to man Corner in the draft”- Louis Riddick
“Play-offs? You’re talking play-offs?” The greatest video segment ever in sports. I still laugh thinking about that post-game interview/tirade.
Ayyeee Biig Herm!! 🔥
Versatile/Tough-my man!
Love this interview. Every cornerback need to listen
Herm was just like, “OK, I am gonna break it down right now”
Man alive, Herm is the E. F. Hutton of the NFL. I learned a lot from him!
Our little inside plays with him...😊
We PLAY to WIN the GAME!!!!!
Thanks Stats !!!
Flex- my guy! Coach makes me want to get PBUs. It’s a free ball
Our OL only helped the offense be a top rushing and highly prolific and efficient passing game. Calm down and realize our guys know what they’re doing
The guy that they drafted, Dominick Puni, has never given up a sack, ever. Puni is going to be a good addition.
It didn't show against elite AFC teams last year and lions game o line was exposed hopefully Puni and Kingsley are legit starters
Still should be a coach
Herm is awesome.
Just seen herm at Las Vegas Airport on his way to Cali
Great coach wish he’s was are defense of coach
2:57 Good point.
No argument about Jim Brown, it's just that I think Walter Payton is about level with him, I mean all those years on the Bears where he was the team.
🔥
Herman, Rabbit Trail, Edwards.
Ricky (Swiss knife) pearsall 😊
Montana #1
Greg Cosell protected that the Niners would take Ricky Pearsall
If slick rick is better than micheal crabtree, its a success…but if he becomes a dante pettis….im gonna loooseee my miiinnnddd
He already has raw ability that was much greater than Dante Pettis
Greg Cosell would take Ricky Pearsall
Yea man these kids nowadays bruh they jus dont listen

How did they ignore ? They signed and drafted 4/5 Offensive Linemen who fit the scheme & have experience.
You guys only worry about name not fit.
