Sarah has moved me from the first time I heard her voice, then witnessing her presence at a concert in Sacramento area, till now. every time her passion fuels mine.
After hearing “I Will Remember You” and “Building A Mystery,” I was reeled in, she is so talented and wonderful, it is an honor to see her in this performance.
@@roadkillsrus oh, tell us more about the definitive nature of love! It's not like countless generations of the greatest poets and philosophers have struggled to define or even understand it. I'm sure you've got it down cold. 😂 - Love songs with darker roots like this are important, because they show us that "needing" someone else (which is a very common feeling when one is really in love, in fact it's actually hard to imagine a definition of love that wouldn't include the feeling of needing the other person) is merely a minor degree, while a stalker's psychotic obsession is a major degree, on the same emotional spectrum. Those of us who have been through a breakup and who have resisted the almost overwhelming urge to call the ex late at night can at least empathize to some degree with those who failed to resist that urge. - There's an old axiom that the difference between a creep and a "babe magnet" is simply how attractive or not that guy is. One might also argue that the difference between a passionate suitor and a stalker is just the degree of pre existing mental illness of that person.
@@kennethg9277 If you want to define love as the same as the feeling of being "in love", OK, but that's a pretty pathetic love. I'm referring to the kind of love that cares more about the other person than our needs- real or felt. It's one of the shortcomings of the English language. We have some overloaded words that mean too many things. Infatuation is probably closer to the definition you seem to be using. And I've been through my share of painful breakups. Surviving those was part of what helped me understand the difference I'm describing above. I've been the infatuated weenie. Thankfully I was never an obsessed stalker. I've known a couple of those.

Pretty arrogant, but pretty amusing too, so thanks for that. 😉 - I mean, never mind that it's a nigh-metaphysical concept that is both entirely subjective AND so protean that the very best of the human animals have been unsuccessful at pinning it down for the past few thousands of years... there's always some schlub on the internet who thinks he knows better. I'll make it simple for you: You don't understand love, and you're not remotely qualified to define it. Because no-one is. - " I've been the infatuated weenie." you say. Well, you're still infatuated apparently. Just with yourself! 🤣
Dude. The lyrics to this song are taken from letters that an obsessed fan sent to Sarah over a long period of time. Like a psycho fan that stalked her and was convinced she was his true love. There's nothing, no "love", in someone saying to you "I'll take your breath away. And after I wipe away the tears, just close your eyes dear. I'll hold you down." Ffs people are so damn stupid.
There are precious few rock songs I care about where I have ever heard an acoustic version I liked as much. This is an exception,. and a beautiful one.
I disagree with all the 'stalker' comments. Sarah took a negative experience and turned it into something beautiful. This song makes me think of the potential of love, when love seems an impossibility.
Sarah McLachlan pondered the deep darkness of a troubled mind and turn it into something movingly profound. Its not hard to understand, awful as it is, how Sarah McLachlan can inspire obsession.
@ctenyoga Well, I wouldn't say that: "Excerpted from a May 28th, 1996 SprintChat: Q: Hi, Sarah, I hope you won't mind a personal question. What religion do you follow? A: I don't follow any organized religion, but I do believe in the idea of god as a verb -- being love and light. and that we are part of everything as everything is part of us. "
Her timing is off a bit at the beginning and she gets a bit pitchy in places but by far she is a Canadian Treasure, this album was perfection. I miss when this was new.
no you dont wish to write songs like this... especially when the stalker who wrote these letters and words to Sarah killed himself. It doesn't much more personal than this
The whole album which this song is on "Fumbling Toward Ecstasy" is a 5 Star Masterpiece! I've been listening to Sarah for 28 years!
No Auto-tune, no flashing lights, just a true artist at a piano pouring her heart out. It's refreshing.
Just saw her last night. She’s absolutely beautiful, talented, and gave a flawless performance
First heard this song on an episode of "Due South". From that moment i was hooked. Thank you Sarah.
nogbad thebad I love that show!
Same here - and still hanging :)
I love how she puts it all out there...you can feel the emotion. She puts her heart into this. A special talent.
I totally agree ! She’s a special artist… extremely talented.
Still listening 2022 🎧
jaw dropping! the way she gets abusive toward the end like the stalker is beyond this world
I love this song!
Sarah's range of sound and expression is immense and inspiring.
Sarah has moved me from the first time I heard her voice, then witnessing her presence at a concert in Sacramento area, till now. every time her passion fuels mine.
She’s my favorite.
this never gets old. i miss the 90s!
I'm not crying. Not at all
I've never seen this until today. I love this version of Possession! Absolutely beautiful!
I have followed Sarsh for years also...... god sent she is!
3:34 is pure goosebumps
After hearing “I Will Remember You” and “Building A Mystery,” I was reeled in, she is so talented and wonderful, it is an honor to see her in this performance.
This song is a true testament of love's power to drive anyone straight over the edge of reason and sanity.
It's based off a psychotic fixation (or infatuation at best). That doesn't have anything in common with actual love.

Love the beauty and passion in her voice! Beautiful timbre! She plays piano beautifully!
Beautiful, exquisite, sublime, as only Sarah can play it. Love the original studio version, but this solo acoustic performance is killer.
There are precious few rock songs I care about where I have ever heard an acoustic version I liked as much. This is an exception,. and a beautiful one.
This song still burns.
I'm Spell-bound by her voice (especially this song). What a gift!
Angel the song.
her voice makes me feel
I love and live this song right now. Such beautiful lyrics and so much emotion in her performance. I just love to see her perform. Bless your
She's my favorite
A mother's voice. So beautiful.
Amazing voice
Thank you Sarah, I am blown away by this. You are the best singer ever
She released a similar instrumental version in the 90's in remixes on CD...i have always loved this one even more so than the original...

Her stalker wrote most of it.
Beautiful*
I cannot love this enough!!
tear...

It's amazing how beautiful her voice is in real life- not like all these auto pitched and digitally enhanced "singers" nowadays.

And to think of all the people who made love to this song.
Is it possible to say no to that? Does she mean she wants to close someone's eyes forever?
Thanks for video.

This song is about a stalker she had that actually wrote her weird messages and she used some of the stuff he wrote in the song
