Absolutely superb! Roy Ayers was and is simply in a class by himself! I've seen him many times in concert since my college days at UIC, when I skipped class to be at the head of the line to get a front row seat. Then he would look at me and sing to me! Loved it so much! He always puts on a fantastic concert!
saw roy at Mansfield state U, in PA in 1979. met him after the show at a burger joint called pudgies in town. he was stoned and he was not the only one. lol..
One of fav songs by Mr. Ayers.. And Chicas was his greatest female singer that he ever featured on his songs. She had such a unique and powerful tone. I would love to know if she's still singing today.
Being a 80s baby, a lot of people would say that this is before my time, but on the contrary, the music itself is timeless!!!!! I AM AN ROY AYERS UBIQUITY FANATIC!!!!!!! This man is music in its entire form, from funkin wit Rick James, to grand standing with the likes of Billy Cobham, hes blessed the stage n been blessed with artists just as legendary as himself. Needless to say, ever since I heard Searching, Every time I See You, Everybody Loves the Sunshine, and Red, Black, n Green, I was hooked!!!!!!! Being a Dillahead (A fanatic of the late great J Dilla), this music is an inspiration to cats such as myself and millions of others. Love n Respect to this man, his band, and their craft!!!!!!!! SALUTE!!!!!!💯
A shout out to the flugelhorn player from Pittsburgh, my neighborhood as well, who I jammed with once or twice. John ‘squirrel’ Mosley. Gone too soon. You will truly be missed.
@@thedeviator5410 Yes, but in this instance the sound quality is going to be bottlenecked by the recording media. That being primitive videotape in this case.
@@UMAMIMAMU no. The audio from the mics is mixed and placed on top of the footage. There are multiple cameras filming different performers, and spliced together with the mixed sound.
Roy rocked this concert when I was 14 years old and I can remember them banging it on 96,3 fm in DC Howard Univesity Radio. Free your mind while you listen. Peace
WOW, this is a very rare piece of footage. I happened to see this particular band in the same year, Spring 1976. They played our Black Arts Festival at Slippery Rock State University near Pittsburgh, Pa. -- the dummer that night was a then unknown, young Detroiter named Ricky Lawson, keyboardist was Philip Woo (later played with Frankie and Maze); can't recall the bass player during that time, thought they showed him briefly on this video. Pittsburgh's own John "Squirrel" Mosely, also performs on this video. I used to watch Squirrel perform in the Burgh, very often during the 1980s - after he came off the road with Roy. He's now deceased, but lived a very ull musical life. Thanks for this living piece of history, Inspector Montrachet.....TC
How genius do you have to be to master an instrument such as the vibraphone/xylophone...how many instructors for that instrument are in the yellow pages...Roy Ayers is a master of the instrument and took it to another level by bringing it into the realm of funk/soul music.
Like James Brown, who was the grandfather of Funk, Roy Ayers is as groundbreaking as JAMES BROWN was when it comes to Jazz/Funk.This live performances just blows my mind, damn why wasn't i born earlier. Please link me to other early live footage!
This is very rare indeed. Prior to 1990, I don't think that there exist very much video of Roy. The only exception being the couple of appearances that he made on Soul Train ua-cam.com/video/CeRloC1eDYM/v-deo.html
I did a video (everybody’s grooving )with Roy Ayers ….sat on the couch and talk with him for a minute he told me some things that I really needed to know about him I’ve been listening to him since 1974 this video is awesome thank you Roy thank you chicas!!!!! nothing but good vibrations🌹🌹🌹❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿
Now im no stranger to Roy Ayers, however I just heard this cut on WBGO radio..jazz88..Love my discovery Sundays@work...I go places only they can take me...Support...
Yes!! Makes me so sad that this video is a reminder of the void of good music today. This video makes me want to reverse time. Glad I had the experience.
One of my favorite song of Roy... I'm born 2 years after it happened, now I can enjoy, flying over the vibrations, by trying to guess where guy did you find this masterpiece... Just wanna say thank you...
Roy & Ubiquity are iconic and in the class of the greatest to ever do this funky jazzy groovy music!!! I discovered them while attending NCCU in the 70's. Changed my life for the better....Good good good good vibrations YEAH..........Everybody Loves The Sunshine.......One Love
this tune is all,the beginning and the end of all.but still endless.masterpiece and unique experience.thank you Roy for change my life.finally i can see.
I love Roy Ayers and have listened to just about everything I can of him, but funny enough, I'm brought to this clip specifically because of Curren$y and The Alchemist, on a mixtape from a few years back called The Carrollton Heist. So so happy I found this footage
this is just beautiful, i watch it everyday now and everytime i do im just in awe over how great roy ayers and his band was, is, and are. This is truly a work of art, just look at Roys face at the end lol. so good
Whoa!!! This is definitely rare! Instant favorite! Can we get the venue? Personnel? Other than Roy, I only recognize (by sight and sound) Justo Almario (unmistakable tenor sax) and John Mosley (flugelhorn). Judging by the year, I can only guess that maybe William Allen (bass), Chano O'Ferral (congas) and maybe Philip Woo on keys are in there?? A little help?
God's people making music...
Whether they know it or not they are giving praise to
The Creator...❤😊

Thanks for a glimpse of what Roy and his group was doing in '76! Like a refreshing glass of water!
Very interesting, A t💊me
CAPS🚀LE back to the mid-seventies!!
All of Roy’s music is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
facts
The year I was born. Now I'm a jazz neosoul singer/poet that spreads good vibrations everywhere I go. Somehow I think he had something to do with it.

Chicas performance on “Take All the Time You Need” is one of my favorite performances ever. Soul wrenching.

I read about him. Very interesting.
SQUIRREL!!! Love and miss you, my brother.
Am I the only one wondering how the sound is so clear for a 35 year old video tape?
The great mics of today are the same microphones of yeaterday

@@thedeviator5410 I could see that. I was thinking it was a live feed capture since it's so crude. But that does make the most sense.
Direct soundboard feed audio matched with video footage
This song has got to be on one of the play list in Heaven
This is when you could go to a concert and the music sounded just like the record, note for note. True artist
Exactly!

I didn't discover Roy Ayers until I was attending Hampton University (over 20 years ago now)...and have loved him ever since.
I "discovered" him forty years ago at Hampton Institute!
Tina better late than never! Myself I've been listening to Roy's melodic tunes since around 1975.
I bet that was a thrill and a treat!!!! The more you run across by him the more you are impressed.
Anybody thirsty while listening to Roy Ayers? Well, pour a cup 😃
