Roy is on top of what's going on in the world especially concerning Blacks!
Oh yes.. Peace.
A living legend who is so underrated that it should be illegal that he don't get the Super star type recognition that he rightly deserves..Love Mr Ayers
💯
god sent. a friend for all of us.
His “The Golden Rod’ from Everybody loves the Sunshine just blew me away. I was 5 years old. I heard his stuff before, that album is TIMELESS!! The Third Eye was another one. But it was spiritually deep song. But it was his Africa, Center of the World release show me his true GENIUS!! That was his masterpiece!!
His commentary on music and race relations is spot on. This is three years before the election of Trump. But then again, in the era of Obama, people kept saying “Post racial America”. Reality has a way of waking people up.
Thank you for this interview and posting this.
I think that very often Roy's more artistic ventures - such as ACOTW - have often been overshadowed by his more commercially driven material. And as much a fan as I am of much of what Roy records I tend to gravitate towards the more obscure parts of his repertoire Lots Of Love and ACOTW remain my top two albums from his collection. Lots of Love is available on CD from a German distributor - Charly. I would spend the money again just to possess the cover art. The same is true for ACOTW
its crazy this man is a part of black history
Everything i made up in my mind about the Funk/Jazz master is realized in this interview, the man is not only the best groove maker to this date, he is also one hell of an spokesman for a better world, a world without greed! Love the insides this true hero gives about these other Jazz/Latin giants. This man can drop names like THELONIOUS MONK, WILLIE BOBO, CAL TJADER, MONGO SANTAMARIA. HERBIE MANN, LONNIE "LISTON" SMITH, SONNY STITT & MILES DAVIS and have a solid background for it to be recon with. (Sorry for my bad English)
This man is a legend, I love you roy, your music has entertained me for over 30 years. His music just gets me in a happy place, thank you kindly.
O how I love this man. His music vibrates to the bone.
He's right on time , about the history of Los Angeles. I didn't know anything thing about the outside world.
I get such good vibes from Roy Ayers... lulz
We did too.
What a great and down to earth interview and conversation.
+Bobby Linning Thank you Bobby.. Roy is a great conversationist.
I love this man’s music but I did not like this mans interview. Im 43 years old and Hispanic and I still have his cd in my car and listen to his music all the time!!! From a family of musicians with me being a drummer and a Dj, I have so many more real questions for him that relate to him and picking his brain. I wish I could talk to this man.
🙏
thank you for posting this. there is a dearth of interviews and general information about Roy Ayers out there these days. Luckily everything you need to know about him comes through clearly in his music. but it's great to see him speak. i would love to talk with him for a half hour like this
+CalvinCrack He is still touring a lot so you might get that chance.
yeah he's pretty active. I saw him at the Hollywood Bowl a couple years ago. He opened for Queen Latifah, which seemed backwards to me with all due respect. BUT it was definitely her idea to have him there, so props on that. He did great though, NO one in the audience who was around me knew who he was. I was like WTF, he's why i'm here.
CalvinCrack I was at that concert and the only reason I went was to hear him play live. He is a Los Angeles native and his experience and sound in music is important for Los Angeles natives like me
CalvinCrack folks don't remember 6 months ago, nevermind music from decades ago.
Respect to her.. More artists like Latifah should do this.. Their careers are built on the music of people like Roy.
Musical genius. That's it.
coffy is a colour.roy the black superman !with wonderfull voices like merry clayton
