My grandfather would often work as laborer in farms, if there is no work he would walk far away in towns to beg for food that was in 1970s.

A lot of people talking rubbish here like "look how fit they look and bla bla" There was not so much food because of droughts and famine and british exploitation with additional inequality. If you think that they was enjoy than just adopt their lifestyle for a month. Eat half of your the meal only once a day and don't use any vehicle and travel barefoot.
Invasions and looters of western countries are the causes of poverty of preindependance but starting from scratch is a difficult proposition. We should have concentrated on agriculture and village industries for self sufficient in all respects.
For all those heartbroken that we didn't have any clothes to wear, men mostly were bare chested as most of them were farmers . A glorious nation which was robbed blind and converted into the poorest by foreign invaders has now risen from the ashes and will again take its rightful place in a decade.
while it's true the British did a lot of evil things, but "India" didn't exist as a single country before. A loose collection of several diverse states and kingdoms were consolidated by the British, turned poor, and then partition was arbitrarily done, which led to further unprecedented violence, succeeding the previous massacres and droughts, famines and what not.
It is controversial, but a lot of the present problems in India are due to the fact that India is a country. It is simply too diverse to be a single country. I know not one nation which has similar cultural, ethnic and religious diversity and is developed. The US has a lot of ethnic diversity perhaps, but there is a lot of homogeneity in the societal fabric and overall infrastructure, unlike India. A state like West Bengal is absolutely different from something like Rajasthan or Uttaranchal. The ambition to make India great one day, on par with the western economies, is a commendable one, but it just might be too ambitious. I surely hope it happens, but I don't see the problems going away soon.
So beautiful and charming. Such practical clothing/costumes according to the weather. Lovely carts, lovely architecture. The costumes and traditions suggest, this could be Tamil Nadu in Southern India.
there are 2 POVs to see this clip 1: having sympathy for them cause they lived in pathetic conditions as compared to ours and seeing this as history. 2: early man has become so developed that he has learned to build buildings and even a device called camera in which he can capture moments of his life...he has even become more civilised than ever learned living in a social system

Time is such a devil digester.Over the decades and centuries,it digests almost everything. We will be all gone when the day comes. So dreamy.
My take... Obviously, it's just a sample of India. Not all the people were of physical structure and colour as seen here. We all know that there were fat bellies, obese and little fair to very fair skins were also there in the period the video was shot. It was a hot day with Sun at the back of Camera. Only working class people were seen in such a hot day on the streets. Mainly wholesale buyers and their coolies come to the market street. People seemed to roam around to run an errand or seek petty jobs. Kids and women too are seen perhaps passing through for some household reasons. Most People were making hand to mouth income by hardworking. But for epidemic or pandemic, diseases were unheard of. People had healthy diet, hardworking and good immunity. The quality of water and air was pure. Food was nutritious and less fancy. People talk to each other or in groups for entertainment. Thus maintaining clean atmosphere and healthy society. I would think that this trend was very much seen even till late 80s in India. In the last 20-30 years we lost all those goodies in exchange for development of economy and advancement of human society. Was it really worth? NO.

I surely hope it happens, but I don't see the problems going away soon.

there are 2 POVs to see this clip
1: having sympathy for them cause they lived in pathetic conditions as compared to ours and seeing this as history.
2: early man has become so developed that he has learned to build buildings and even a device called camera in which he can capture moments of his life...he has even become more civilised than ever learned living in a social system

For people:
Since old times, people dressed like this only in India.
Painting found of a king on his throne too was wearing just a small piece of cloth, with little jwellery.
That is because India is both hot and humid, people liked to stay like that only.
And it is also not like that Indians ever lacked clothes anyway. It was literally largest exporter of textiles in whole world, it's textiles reached Japan in East to Portugal in West.
Now I see where the "Family Guy" gets their ideas about India ☺️. Fascinating.

nice video. i remember back then we had peaceful life.. some british people used to make videos like these in our village. childhood days..
How old are u now?
Sir how old are you?
Life was very tough on those days...missing those people
NO.
Everyone is talking how all the people in the video are dead but no one's talking that the cameraman is also dead.
Notice the difference of life style between today and 100 years back..... And imagine how it will be after 50 years
