Watching this with my mom when I was a little girl is why I became a criminal defense attorney. I was so excited by all of the different shots of the courtroom and the awesome music. I didn’t know exactly what Perry did but I knew I wanted to do it too. And now I’m 41 and there is nowhere I feel more comfortable than a courtroom. Thanks Perry!
My mom still likes to laugh about when I was a little kid and these TV movies came on I would do a slow interpretive dance to the theme. That and my brother and I trying to make laps around the house as fast as we could making ZOOMING noises during the Star Trek: TNLG theme.
I remember sitting with my grandfather staring out the window at the stars while he watched Perry Mason. Every single time I hear this, I flash back like it was yesterday. I smell his cigar, I remember hearing my grandmother in the kitchen talking to my mom...I couldn't have been 2 or 3 years old, so must have been '67. This is one of those rare revivals that not only actually live up to the original but the performances of Burr and Hale were maybe even better in these movies than even the original series. THE LEGENDARY TV SHOW RETURNS WITH SUSPENSE AND MYSTERIES AND WONDERFUL CASTING AND RAYMOND BURR PORTRAYAL OF PERRY MASON IS AMAZING AND THE MUSIC IS LEGENDARY AND VERY INTERESTING AND FASCINATING AND HIGH OCTANE
This TV movie began the modern era of the company currently known as Paramount Global. When spun off from CBS in 1971, Viacom operated as a syndicator of old TV programs, primarily those from CBS, especially those produced in-house by CBS. Viacom entered into producing first-run programs in 1974, but for over a decade none of their weekly series clicked with viewers, only a 1981 miniseries adaptation of East of Eden. Enter Fred Silverman and Dean Hargrove. Previously, Silverman served as the head of each of the three major networks of the time, being especially successful at ABC. Silverman formed his own production company in 1981, initially aligned with MGM/UA. In 1985, he began his partnership with Hargrove, and that year the first Perry Mason telefilm, Perry Mason Returns, aired on NBC, reviving Raymond Burr's portrayal of the attorney 19 years after the CBS series, then syndicated by Viacom, concluded. Perry Mason returns was a ratings success, and Viacom produced an additional 29 telefilms in the series through 1995. Silverman, Hargrove, and Viacom also produced another TV movie that had a variation of the Perry Mason concept, Diary of a Perfect Murder, the same TV season. This telefilm, starring Andy Griffith of another Viacom-syndicated series, The Andy Griffith Show, as Ben Matlock, was the pilot for the weekly series known as Matlock that debuted in the fall of 1986. It was around this time that Viacom was taken over by National Amusements and took over cable channels previously owned by Warner Communications, including MTV, Nickelodeon, and Showtime. Matlock was Viacom's first in-house weekly series to be a hit, and it spawned a spin-off on CBS, Jake and the Fatman, in which one of the lead actors was William Conrad, previously of Cannon which Viacom also distributed at the time. That show in turn spun off Diagnosis: Murder, starring Dick Van Dyke, of another show in the Viacom library at the time, The Dick Van Dyke Show (which is now distributed by Paul Brownstein Productions). Viacom's fast growth from the mid-1980s into the 1990s gave them the leverage to pursue an acquisition that would give them ownership of a major movie studio. In the fall of 1993, Viacom and QVC started a bidding war for Paramount Communications, which owned Paramount Pictures, and was previously known as Gulf and Western Industries. Viacom prevailed in 1994, and cemented its status as one of the major American media conglomerates. Viacom boosted the library of its Paramount division by acquiring Spelling Entertainment Group in 1999, but the next year brought Viacom its biggest acquisition yet - the original CBS Corporation, formerly known as Westinghouse Electric Corporation. This made Viacom not only the owner of its former parent, but at the time the second-largest American media conglomerate. Viacom would have some synergy troubles over the first few years of the 21st century, and thus changed its name to CBS Corporation and spun off the motion picture division of Paramount as well as the company's basic cable networks as a new Viacom. By the late 2010s, though, the landscape had changed, and thus National Amusements pursued a remerger of the media companies it controlled. After resistance from CBS head Les Moonves, who was later ousted after a sexual harassment scandal, CBS Corporation re-absorbed Viacom in December 2019 to form ViacomCBS, later renamed Paramount Global (doing business as Paramount) to reflect the importance of Paramount Pictures in its operations. None of this would have happened if Fred Silverman and Dean Hargrove hadn't come along in 1985.
Hence why I refer to the 80s and 90s Viacom as "The Big Shining V of Syndication", as in 1985, they're famous "V of Doom" watermark was given a chrome coating and "illuminated" both prime-time and syndication for a very long time. Also worth noting that The V of Steel was Viacom's longest lasting logo, despite being overwritten by the redesign in 1990 by Sumner Redstone, aka: "The Spreading Letters" or "Wigga Wigga". But yet, to this day, you can _still_ find The V of Steel on some prints of classic shows from that era.

Wonder if Dick DeBenedicts, who made the new Perry Mason TV Theme for the TV Movies got to meet Fred Steiner, who made the original Perry Mason Theme for the TV-Series that lasted from 1957 to 1966 on CBS-TV?
Actually, my favorite character was Paul Drake, too. I was always annoyed that when William Katt was no longer available to play the role of Paul Drake, Jr. why didn't they simply RECAST IT? Katt did (only) NINE of the movies, you couldn't exactly say he "owned" that role. Further, I think enough time has passed that the public would accept a "new" Perry Mason. (The problem with "The New Adventures" was that they tried it TOO SOON. 7 years after the end of the original series.)
Idk, man. Raymond Burr WAS Perry Mason for so long and made that character iconic as well as Barbra Hale and William Hopper that it might be next to impossible to cast other actors, especially actors today that don't have the same talent or class of those type of actors at their time who could fill those shoes.
kendall rivers people love ❤️ Raymond Burr and Barbara Hale. And I am one of them. I would not watch a new one. But younger people might who didn’t really “know “ the “real “ Perry and Della.
@Ida Claire. Idk because Perry Mason is always on even to this day. It airs on METV every night at 1130pm. And I'm a new viewer since I've been watching it on METV for a year

Why did William Katt stop appearing in the Perry Mason TV-Movies after Perry Mason TV-Movie #9, titled The Case of The Lady in The Lake (1988))? There was no explanation about what happened to his character, Paul Drake Jr., who got hired by Perry Mason to be his investigator after Perry resigned as an appellate court judge to defend Della Street, who was framed for murder.
PERRY MASON!! He was my hero in the fictionalized court system because he would always find the guilty person and 'rescue' the framed person. He's the lawyer I would want if I were ever framed for murder. But sadly, I would have to settle with a regular lawyer, and end up in prison for years, maybe decades, just like they did to David Milgaard, Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter, Guy Paul Morin, and many, many other innocent people because they couldn't find a concerned, caring lawyer like PERRY MASON, who BELIEVED they were innocent.

I was just thinking, they should make "The New Perry Mason Adventures", starring Gary Sinise. He doesn't really look like Burr, but he definitely has the right style of acting for the role. Thoughts?
Not a fan of a new Perry Mason though if they had tried a black Perry Mason in the 90's I think Howard Rollins would've been pretty good. In a weird way he and Burr favor each other in the eyes and face expressions.

Ironside or Perry Mason?
Both! Th, 05/23/2019

"I cannot believe what I just saw, now it seems Tokyo has no defense."
I would not watch a new Perry Mason no Raymond Burr I do not watch.
@Ida Claire. Idk because Perry Mason is always on even to this day. It airs on METV every night at 1130pm. And I'm a new viewer since I've been watching it on METV for a year

Great transition from the 50’s/60’s series to the 80’s return!
They should do a remake of this show and make it a movie
They are doing a remake of Perry Mason for HBO...
Nooooooo
Umm why the original is fine
No thanks. Idk who could play Perry better than Raymond Burr. And let's not forget the last time they tried to that with the new perry mason in the 70's that lasted one second
Nobody can play the roles of those characters like the original actors
wasn't Ramond Burr the guy who was in Godzilla?
Yep.
Also "Rear Window," playing a much, much different character.
@@ValerieJNorse He was the bad guy in that one -- totally different! : 0 Th, 05/23/2019
He was in the US dubbed version of the original Godzilla and also Godzilla 1985 (AKA The Return of Godzilla).
PERRY Mason returns song
I was a fan of the '50's series. The new one? Undecided.
Nothing tops this iconic show. There's only one Perry Mason and his name is Raymond Burr.
James is the most beautiful man ever but river is also beautiful
Someone needs to sample this (legally of course) it's so layered makes me wish i was a musician.
anybody got the ending to this episode where they drive away in the jeep...and between perry mason and ironside...perry mason by a mile
The one here's closer to PM's ending credits, which were slower than the opening music.
I Like PERRY MASON RETURNS
Well, the original series is being replayed on Me-TV -- should you be curious. And I agree with you about the theme.
亡くなった父がよくみてました。父は、法廷のドラマが好きでした。私もこの曲すきです。確か車の宣伝🚗に使われていました?
Can you upload theat Perry Mason movie?
Joanne.
hola DONDE PUEDO VER PERRY MASON EN ESPAÑOL TODAS LAS SERIES
it may sound as a silly or strange question; but what does this music mean? Purely...what could be its aim or main feelings ?
Ripped from the Forum Home Video VHS release of the same name
Grace Alexandre did you like Matlock also?????…Matlock did the same things Perry Mason did except Ben Matlock was in Atlanta, Georgia…. I always said Ben Matlock was Perry Mason with a Southern accent..I loved Andy Griffith thought he was so handsome even as an older man did you like Matlock???…I hope you will reply to this
@@sherryhannah9262 I also found Matlock exciting to watch. He's also another lawyer who cared for finding the true guilty person and 'rescuing' the framed person. And yes, Matlock was handsome.
@@gracealexandre3381 remember this episode in Season 5 where he was defending a madam who was accused of killing one of her clients…..she fell for him got him stuff from Frederick’s and other things……remember she called him Benji??????…. I hope you will reply to this
@@gracealexandre3381 he and Randy Travis sang some songs when Randy would guest star….oh do you remember Ben Matlock liked hot dogs??????.. I hope you will reply to this
@@sherryhannah9262 Oh yes, I do. On the show, he would always be eating a hot dog 🌭 for a meal or treat.
They changed the music somewhat. I love the 50' music better it was perry mason music.
Shelly Blanchard Agreed.
very nice!!!
The actor with the most comebacks
Olivia Burnette of the Interstate 680.
If the title had followed the format of the later movies, my guess is it would be called The Case of the Returning Lawyer.
And Fred Steiner passed away in 2011
I remember this being in Incredibles and I have no clue where it was
I couldn't figure out where else i heard it from until i read this comment. Thanks
@theyoungharris and don't forget about Matlock and Jake and the Fatman
T-Bone Hubbard I hope you will reply to this did you like Matlock?????..I did I have the first season on DVD wish I could get the following 8 seasons…even though you might be a guy I thought Andy Griffith was handsome even as an older guy
@AaronBruceLadner Perry Mason!
Barbara Hale is the only one still alive. She's also William Katts mother.
You mean Katt Williams
Not anymore. She passed away today. RIP
No, it's William Katt. He is Barbara Hale's son. And they did make movies from this series, several times. But they were TV movies, not cinema movies.
She was married to Bill Williams who appeared in a couple of Perry Mason episodes!!,(he played Kit Carson)
I LKE PERRY MASON ŔETURN
a clssic tv film
Wonder who'd win: Perry Mason vs Ben Matlock?
I was just thinking, they should make "The New Perry Mason Adventures", starring Gary Sinise. He doesn't really look like Burr, but he definitely has the right style of acting for the role. Thoughts?
Not a fan of a new Perry Mason though if they had tried a black Perry Mason in the 90's I think Howard Rollins would've been pretty good. In a weird way he and Burr favor each other in the eyes and face expressions.
They had a "New Perry Mason" It bombed.
他界した、父がこの番組大好きでした。今は、亡き父に、聞かせたかった😔
And then I would get put to bed.
lol Same.
Kascnef, you mean Dick DeBenedictis? Yeah, he's still alive.
