Try a version made out of wings. Would be interesting to see how it will behave when being dropped. And maybe a version with pipes and invisible bearings for a net.
I was wondering how a net or a sheet with larger "chunks" would be. Like, what if it was flexible in 3x3 squares, or if there were openings in the sheet.
I wonder what happens if you spin the sheets. I'm thinking a centered spin point, off center, and very edge. Thrusters, engines, and controllers could be fun tests.
physics constraints are solved pair-by-pair, which is probably why you saw that grouping, it does very few iterations at physics level "Simple 1" so the alternating pairs aren't as resolved (hence the "gap" between pairs
That's actually really cool! Ice "noodles" that bend? And transmit light? Idk if I found the same stuff online but either way; I didn't know flexible ice was a thing! Man, the world we live in! 😮
@@Durf Yup, ice noodles are the thing I was talking about. If you search „phase diagram of water” you will see, that there are actually around 15 different types of ice, each with different structure. Type VII ice can withstand temperatures as high as 400C and exists under extreme pressures only, and that’s just one of them.
The 2 corner bending is simply just a property of all fabrics. If something starts out with 0 curvature and you give it positive curvature in one direction the curvature in the other direction will stay 0.
Make a sheet of ice with bounce ice along the edge and high friction blocks at the corners like concrete, but 5 times more friction and 5 times heavier. Then put the steering stuff in the middle. I haven't tested it. Experiment with multiple materials and make stuff more than just a single flat layer. Also turn the graphics way down.
It would be nice, if more games had more things, that completely change properties at the flick of a switch. There is of course lamps and things like that, but I mean stuff like cloch, that when activated, hardens. This example can be used to make a mold of a complex object very fast, or it can be used for grabbing thing, that have solid, non-malleable and complex shapes regardless of slipperyness. Another cool mechanism would be a block, that changes friction. It would also be nice, if games had more complex math like fx setting the friction to (altitude)×((playerdefined variable)^2). I am not talking about any game in particular. I just mean games in general. Mostly sandbox games with physics where these types of mechanisms fit. I know, there are games, that have some of these things.
Practical use for pink flubber impact bracing for a hover craft / vehicle crash resist. Use for ultra heavy blocks needed tracion for small/large vehicles. Uses for lightweight block. Repeatable wings on air vehicles / lowering weight on large slow vehicles. these are decent uses but I'm sure somebody can come up with better.
You know when you used the rope mod on the big flex sheet and it freaked out? I feel like this would be very affective against the big red farm bots as it killed them and contains the explosion they make.
I now want this on a shirt I also want any cooking channels out there to make pizza dough very aggressively for views But one hand should be more Italian than the other
Mod odea for people who know how to mod basicly u can take multiple or single blocks/bars(anything) and can set its fizics settings to 1 2 anything and the rest arent set to that amount of fizics would be cool u could tehnicly make almost realistic ropes to pull cars and stuff tell me if its posible would be rly cool
hehe yea there's some things that are a little backwards with this game 😅 it does have better performance but the point is that collisions are doing fewer calculations Somehow this means bearings are also looser... IMO there should be at least 2 sliders, one for regular collisions and another for bearing looseness
Try a version made out of wings. Would be interesting to see how it will behave when being dropped. And maybe a version with pipes and invisible bearings for a net.
It would work like a sail, essentially. Well, if the physics were accurate to real life, and we all know that SM physics are not that.
I had that idea to. I was thinking it could be a good parachute?
I tested it and it just floats around. I dropped a block to check if the no gravity part bugged, but it fell like normal.
4:05 "let me tell ya that's life, thats life right there, you hit a rock and you turn into a pringle."

10:20
do this again but the sheet is no-friction and a hole in the middle
now you have a floppy marble funnel
You should try and do different tests with the flex ice sheet, like the steepest incline it can climb, with thruster of course.
I was thinking you should try this with plus shaped pipe pieces instead
the purple flubber one looks almost organic kinda like a flopping fish
Wonderful video, really enjoyed the slappy physics on the no-friction blocks
cool video, try using the clear command when creations are too "heavy" to avoid lag, or crashing.
This video does bless my eyes
I used to watch you play this and I was trying to find this channel for 4 years.
Brings back memories of the good old days.
Durf: walks under the flubber sheet
The sheet: n o
Durf: •-•

Scientists (Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China) have recently created flexible ice irl. Might want to look it up.
That's actually really cool! Ice "noodles" that bend? And transmit light?

Maybe if you did the sled, but added gimbal thrusters in the corners, you could make a flying carpet.
You should make a bouncy castle out of the super light weight blocks and pistons
19:35
I think this has something to do with more mass meaning more inertia
The 2 corner bending is simply just a property of all fabrics. If something starts out with 0 curvature and you give it positive curvature in one direction the curvature in the other direction will stay 0.
This is why we eat pizza the way we do.
the hitboxes on all scrap mechanic items are the same as normal blocks from memory, which i think would explain why the spheres didnt act different
My fav was the no friction flubber. Really fun stuff!
this has got to be the coolest thing i have ever seen in scrap mechanic!!
8:50 Hahaha Laplace’s equation goes brrrrrrrrr
3:09 I think the particles might be the main reason the lag is a problem, maybe try turning it off in your settings?
nope
When you try to make a hammock and you accidentally ascend into the fourth dimension
Tested a soft body cube. Haunting things happened.
Try making a flexible bouncy anti-friction camera controlled vehicle
Imagine this being the first SM video you've ever seen...
Fun video! Don't forget about the /clear command!
1:40 the frequency of the piston is much higher than the natural frequency of the sheet so the waves aren’t able to build in amplitude
5:55 when you move a picture on microsoft word 0.0001 centimeters
24:30 if you made this in the shape of a fish, it would look like a fish out of water lol
I like how this is the first video I have ever seen with an emoji in its title.

This should be added because it could result in so many more builds and you done have to worry about getting stuck on rocks since it bends
Maybe if there was a block that collided with the ground, but not with other blocks, then you can make it out of that and it wouldn't lag as much.
me: *watches this *
my pc: "don't even think about it"
Most games require more physics to make soft body.
Scrap mechanic taking notes: "games require less physics for soft body"
The amount of beef needed for his PC to even attempt to run this.
You should make a plane where the fuselage is made of flexible blocks.
Do a low-friction block version to compare it to the ice block carpet
you should see a creation that o published on the workshop, in the soft-body theme "real destructible car"
Make a rope bridge between two hills or mountains and railings
The pink flubber was like looking at some lifeform.
10:43 - *_*Me, every time I play Scrap Mechanic…*_*
Could you try and make a small wave pool
Like a row of pistons activating at the same time
And maybe try surfing on it?🤔🤔🤔

6:03 pov: when you accidentally make a 4-dimensional shape(edit: next time you do it again, try to put it on max physics)
0:41
That floppiness reminds me of something
I wonder what it would look like if you made a rubber band of the 0 friction bouncy block, It kinda reminds me of String theory.
Wow, we can make clothes for our giant mech suits.
Do a mix of super heavy and super light
3:49 magic carpet moment

8:42 That laugh. 😭
19:03 that was a very wholesome wheeze.
Congrats on 45k! 🎉
The frictionless flubber is like a creature
When you try to lift something up with rope but accidentally travel to the 4th dimension, I hate it when that happens to me!
Build a big hydrolic press and try to fold it in half
Very useful to heal all the burned people from the fire while also not smashing their head
-school nurse
Do a boincy castle with those!!!
Missed opportunity to make the frictionless bouncy blocks in the shape of a fish.
You know when you used the rope mod on the big flex sheet and it freaked out?
I feel like this would be very affective against the big red farm bots as it killed them and contains the explosion they make.
make a hammock with all the materials separately, and then combined
Make a jelly fish with soft body physics using the ultra flubber
you could maybe create some kind of farmbot capturing net/ trap with it.
combine this with GWID stuff
ama try to make the ocean
and say hello to lag on the way and maybe fire too
when cleaning up you should have the clear everything mod which has a block that erases everything when you use it.
19:35 how earthquakes are simulated in scrap mechanic
"MOM, MY SHEETS TURNING INTO A 4TH DIMENSIONAL BEING"
Oh My Gosh, The Italian hand, is, Getting agressive.
I now want this on a shirt
I also want any cooking channels out there to make pizza dough very aggressively for views
But one hand should be more Italian than the other
You could make good tires out of this
Mod odea for people who know how to mod basicly u can take multiple or single blocks/bars(anything) and can set its fizics settings to 1 2 anything and the rest arent set to that amount of fizics would be cool u could tehnicly make almost realistic ropes to pull cars and stuff tell me if its posible would be rly cool
Physics*
Physics between blocks probably don't change because, well, bearings are the same
if it were real, it could be the perfect bulletproof vest. Because it's both strong and flexible
You could also the clearall command to delete the blocks
About to do this on my laptop
the ice sheet with a thruster on it is a better offroader than anythiing that i have built
Someone with a super computer should try this
27:42the Italian hand is getting angry
me: tries this on my computer
my computer: 💣->💥
Make a soft body air plane!
do the normal bouncy with the thruster
I like the irony
one has to turn down the physics settings in order to actualy get better physics
hehe yea there's some things that are a little backwards with this game 😅
it does have better performance but the point is that collisions are doing fewer calculations
Somehow this means bearings are also looser... IMO there should be at least 2 sliders, one for regular collisions and another for bearing looseness
Haha “soft body” vr has full body, half body, now we got soft body
So durf is just casually playing scrap mechanic on a nasa computer?
Hammock! Build a hammock man!
put it on advanced physics to put it on lift
4:12 EVERY FRICKING TIME
What about a version made of pipes?
2:48 - 5:22 the wet bar of soap when i dropped it
The billiard balls didn't seem to do that weird 2x2 grouping thing.
Enough balls are grouped by 2 already
Don't need to do it in SM
I made a moving face in scrap mechanic out of the bearing fabric stuff
i finaly subd bc the carpet car!
you need to download world cleaners³ or 4 for a clearners for all, specific, loose and welded blocks
/allowclear + /clear exists too
You can say in chat /allowclear and then say /clear and click yes
Just because they added this makes me really want to get the game and just to make a Mobius strip or if I somehow can make a goddamn Klein bottle
3:12 well how did you think sticky wheels were going to work?
