Yes we are - we used to run an Etsy shop (not doll related) together so we definitely enjoy making things. I always say maybe it's because as sign language interpreters our work yields nothing tangible we can "show and tell" lol.

Yeah - I've taught myself a lot of things and on some levels I'm more willing to dive into a project than Grace is. But this seems DAUNTING and I'm so impressed she's committed to learning.

Wow!!!! First of all, I've made the first 2 items (I actually cut out another pair of moto pants on Tuesday), so I know what it takes to make those. Let me tell you that I'm not sure my work would be close up worthy like Grace's is! Everything you showed looks absolutely perfect! All those tiny, precise seams! All the details! Lined jackets! I consider myself an expert sewer, so I feel qualified to say that her work is hella impressive! To be that good in such a short amount of time is amazing!
And I could feel your appreciation in this video! To me, that is worth more than any price I might be paid for my work. To spend that time on something and know the recipient appreciates it so much. I'm quite sure that was the highlight of the holiday for her!

    • @agtakesover

Great video. I’m so glad you show cased Grace’s sewing. She did a wonderful job. I especially love that green jacket! Wow that hounds tooth dress and Sg. pepper inspired jacket. Love it! I would like to try sewing doll clothes one day. I will probably start with hand sewing until I get a sewing machine. Thanks for sharing! And yes Nora is a pretty cute model. 😊

Grace! You did an amazing job on those pieces! 🥳 and you need to try these tips & tricks for knit fabrics! Here are my top 4!
    1. Steamy iron! Use it to reshape your hems, pull any knits that seem to have stretched out back together and the steam will make a piece look fresh again. Just ❤my steamy iron!
    2. Coffee filters are your BFFs! Yes coffee filters! Cheap ones from Dollar tree will work. Press them out with your hand then cut in half. Use them under the knit so the fabric does not get eaten by the dog feet. This will save your life and a lot of hair too! After you have finished sewing that section you just worked on, simply pull the coffee filter apart like you are tearing off a perforated ticket, just go slow so you don’t break the stitch. The coffee filter should not line up with the fabric edges but be about a half inch to an inch past the edge so the knit won’t go into the dog feet and get caught. Hope that makes sense but let me know if you need a picture.
    3. This is what i do with my machine - I have to lengthen my stitch by one or two. Typical, standard stitch is 2.5 but for knit or really heavy sweater knit I use 3.0 or 3.5 stitch length. But i also almost always use the basic straight stitch too. Some people like the knit stitch, it has more give then a straight stitch. Just a preference thing. But i always lengthen my stitch for knits.
    4. If you can adjust the pressure foot to less pressure, that’s how my machine works the best with knit. I had to read my manual a few times to figure that one out. 🙄
Knits I avoid like the black plague - tissue or thin t-shirt knit. You know that super thin stuff. Yuck! It never comes out looking good. Ponte knit - super thick and has broken several needles. Still don’t know how that is possible but I don’t buy it anymore. I buy almost all of my knit from JoAnn now that they are carrying decent knit again but I do recommend buying an 1/8 yard of different knits and testing them out to see what you like best and how your machine handles them. Luckily the dolls don’t talk back if the fit isn’t perfect and you really are the only one that will notice if there is a flaw. Good Luck and hope you fall in ❤❤❤ with some knits! 😊

Right off the back, Bam! One of my favorite patterns, the moto pants! The last outfit, I’ve made this past year but my flats are cut out and still not sewn.
She’s really progressed in her sewing. She’s doing really really well. Doing the eyelets is sometimes fun and sometimes hair ripping.
    Her top stitching is beautiful!
A hint that I use for knits is to put a slightly less than 1/4” strip of iron on interfacing onto the seam allowance.

You picked a good one! ❤❤❤

Thank you so much!! Kids really do pick up on all of those things - I'm quick to own it when I mess up and today our little one was REALLY mean to Grace this morning. I explained she had hurt momma's feelings and she didn't seem to care one bit, but about 40 minutes later when the two of them were sitting together at the table, she told Grace out of the blue, "I'm sorry I was mean to you earlier." We just have to model it and have faith it will stick in time. :-)

Tell Grace that she did an amazing job and to never worry that her clothing isn't as nice as store-bought. I've gotten some really questionable items from AG this last year. Very poor cutting and pattern alignment. Had they not been on sale I would have returned them and one (Molly's school jumper) I will probably never use. Tell Grace that the original Pleasant company patterns are very good and turn out nicely, if she's interested in trying some historical items.

Oh, no. Molly's school outfit was one of the few things we bought on sale recently and now you have me worried. Fingers crossed we get one that's made as well as the clothing Grace sewed :-)

What great pieces of clothing 🤩🤩
No pressure for Grace but if she decides to create the Etsy store it would be a success
