This is a very important message. Jesus is very clear, marriage creates ONE flesh. If we divorce and REMARRY, we will be living in adultery. We will be persisting in that mortal sin. Upon death we will be condemned to hell. How many divorced/remarried people have died believing they were Justified? They didn’t understand the consequences if their life decisions. How many people do not recognize SIN? We live in a time where people do not recognize sin. Sadly, many Catholics have adopted the heretical Protestant belief, “once justified, always justified.” Otherwise, the lines for reconciliation would be very long.

Celebrated 35 yrs this yr. it’s not always easy , but we love each other and have worked together. I have so many friends with 2 and 3 marriages. I find myself not giving congratulations when they remarry. I just can’t pretend it’s ok. I don’t want any woman to suffer in a bad marriage.. but if she divorces, because the spouse is abusive , it’s her lot in life to continue on single.

I am about to celebrate 31 years on Nov. 2nd.
My husband and I were in a car accident a few years ago, and my husband hurt his back. He was prescribed pain medications that slowly grew into a raging addiction! These medications have destroyed him, me, our family, our finances, (we just lost our home) his job, our social life, but most of all...our marriage!
I love my husband with all my heart...but I can't save him! I have tried everything! He tried rehab once...but the ignorance, and the lack of empathy, and lack of understanding of the receptionist while trying to admit him ..shut him down and he wont go back!
These drugs have robbed my husband of everything that was good in him. I have no doubt that when Satan gets a foot hold that he wrecks havoc!
Please pray for my husband, and please pray that my marriage will survive this!
I can't imagine how many families that this drug has, and still is, destroying!
God have mercy on us! 💠

Thank you for another beautiful video that gives clarify and brings truth. Marriage is a beautiful relationship and I'm very thankful for it and my good husband. It's not always roses, but as long as God is in the center of it all good and bad times will be a true blessing in some way. Thank you again and God bless.

Dr. Bergsma I am surprised and a little disappointed that you didn't mention the "Covenant" aspect of marriage. Especially since it looks like your book on Bible covenants is right behind you.

Great discussion of what marriage is. But, unless I missed it, you seem to have not addressed Matthew 32, as well as the situations where a marriage was not established, by God, at a "ceremony" (thus, a civil divorce is valid).

    • @mtaylor3771
      @mtaylor3771 3 роки тому +1

If married in a civil ceremony, the man and wife will be persisting in the sin of fornication. A mortal sin that causes the loss of God’s grace. Anyone who dies in that state is condemned to hell.

At around 7:25 he touches on the scandal caused by the abuse of the Church's laws on annulment, which are based on Mt 5:32.
He doesn't discuss what those actual laws allow for, but they are various "impediments" to the marriage being contracted.
For instance, marriage must be given free consent by both parties, so a "shotgun" marriage isn't valid.
The Church presumes marriages valid until proven otherwise, though, and that marriages between Christians are Sacramental (even if they themselves don't know that).
But Catholics are required to get a dispensation from their bishop to marry a non-Catholic or outside a church, so when they do otherwise it's easy to prove that it wasn't a Sacrament in the Church's eyes.
But "free" and other conditions can be hard to know.
For instance, they were suffering from a mental illness, was it severe to make them unfree?
Did they actually intend not to be open to children?
(Which is required of those of childbearing age.)
      So there's room for abuse.
