The 2008 recession didn't help but I always wondered why France didn't suffer compared to the rest of Austerity Europe

@@falconeshieldbecause France did not apply austerity. Austerity is like shooting one's feet when fleeing a tiger
It really is impressive just how awful France is to poorer countries. Like most neo colonial powers still want economic growth in their colonies but France still has a policy of resource extraction.
France's colonialism is pretty interesting because even 5 of their 18 regions/departments include French Guiana (South America, preceded the Monroe Doctrine), Guadalupe/Martinique (both in the Caribbean), and Reunion/Mayotte (both islands near Madagascar that never split when the main islands did)
Edit: The above 5 regions are referred to internally as the 5 Overseas Regions or 5 Overseas Territories.
Their answer to decolonization was to try to integrate the colonies they cared about into their federal system so no one could force them to let them go lmao
It think like all those regions continently voted to stay with france.
These are all french departments, just like Hawai is part USA, and Okinawa is part of Japan
they are part of france not colonies, like hawaii. also iirc they all voted to stay in, and have the right to leave.
@@Ginkoman2 Yes this is true, as Algeria once was a French region that voted for independence. I wasn't saying that these areas aren't integrated french departments, just that I find it interesting how they have so many, especially still having a presence in south america.
@@Ginkoman2 Considering that Hawaii is illegally occupied to this day it is not the best example. - It's more like Texas.
Part of the reason Russia cares so much about Syria is because Syria is one of the last roadblocks to a completely western controlled corridor for an oil pipeline from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar to Europe. Russia depended on stopping this pipeline in order to continue to exert political power over Europe through being the primary energy exporter to many European countries and such a corridor threatened this leverage.
Also cuz one of the leaders of the Islamic State was a guy called Abu Omar Al-Shishani, who came from Chechnya and if Syria fell to ISIS they would have made Syria an anti-Russian haven for fleeing Chechen fighters, which it sorta is in some areas even now.
That and also Russia’s only military base in the Middle East is the port of Tartarus. This allows the Russian navy to project power in the Mediterranean, though the Turks have the power to block the Dardanelles.

France demanded Haiti pay reparations for its slave revolt that crippled Haiti's economy and lasted halfway into the 20th century. "Haiti indemnity controversy"
I am of the opinion that France owes all that money back plus interest.
It’s funny cause since 1922 America is the one receiving indemnity for that debt, and the US has been collaborating with France to avoid them paying any reparation.
yeah that’ll be nice but it’ll never happen, Haiti has like no strong international allies that’ll bolster its geopolitical stance (the US & LATAM literally just ignore the country for the most part) & any money Haiti actually receives goes into the hands of the corrupt government officials and they just spend IN FRANCE anyways…

The lack of colour extends beyond buildings. Most cars are somewhere on the white-gray-black spectrum and even the cars with colour are either blue or red, it's extremely rare to see a car outside of that. Same for men's clothes. Looking at a whole men's section and taking in the colour spectrum is like, "Here are the colours you men are allowed to have. The rest are forbidden colours. There's one hoodie that's forest green, that's the only special one you're allowed, and even that is pushing it."
I have to go well out of my way to get some good colours in my wardrobe.
It is really weird how car colors especially have been whittled down over the years. I guess people don't have very strong preferences about it so it was cheaper for car companies to just stick with basics but seeing 90% of the cars on the road either be white, black or silver is kinda sad.

France's reluctance to give up its colonies is partly what set the stage for the Vietnam war (france gave the US a narrative that since Ho Chi Minh called himself a communist, he was bad despite being the most popular leader in Vietnam, and the French persuaded the US to back a leader they liked instead of who the Vietnamese liked, leading to the division of Vietnam and ultimately the Vietnam war).

France still dominates Africa economically through the CFA franc
It cost billions to France to keep the CFA at the same level as the euro, and France has been trying to push Africans countries to change to a new currency where they have more control.
And Africans countries who use CFA could just leave if they really wanted too, the franc cfa isn’t just a case of France trying to negatively keep influence in Africa.

@baconsoup8346 I agree with all that you said, except that it isn't possible, only because i think defeatist attitudes are counter productive. That version of Africa is impossible under the current circumstances, and it is extremely unlikely that the necessary improvements to those circumstances will be made this decade, but paradigm shifts do happen, even on a global scale.
That said, getting back to your point, humanity has a lot further to go in terms of social and political evolution before those changes are even remotely possible.

@@baconsoup8346Tanzania is one of the most ethnically and linguistically diverse nations in Africa and therefore the world, yet it has had very little ethnic conflict. So it is certainly possible to overcome arbitrary borders and extreme diversity. Tanzania has already shown how it can be done.
@@baconsoup8346 Yea that's where the most difficult challenge for positive change in Africa is: So much of this is deeply institutionalized in many African countries, so military coups and domination by one ethnic group are normative and democracy often struggles overcoming the major challenge of first peaceful transfer of power (which had happened in Niger just before this coup). To a large degree this institutionalization of naked force as the basis of power goes back to the colonial era, when Africa was essentially run as a series of police states.
It's pretty well-demonstrated by what happened to Sankara, which is that his political standing with the military that had put him in (nominal, since as his fate shows so well his power was always conditional on Compaore) power in the first place was demolished by the humiliation of the Agacher Strip War which was a very bad combination with Sankara's prior aggressive (as in aggressively anti-French, not aggressive against his neighbours) foreign policy rhetoric having led to regional isolation. So the guy who put him in (ultimately nominal) power, Compaore, had him killed and took power openly for himself.

CFA countries are some of the poorest countries in the world. 7 of them ARE the poorest in the world. All of them are former colonial countries, CFA literally means "French African Colonies". They didn't have a choice on whether or not to join it.
CFA franc - Euro course is fixed and controlled by France, and artificially overvalued, which does not allow their economies to actually grow. Half of the money of those countries stored in France, and they literally pay to use their own money. Out of 14 billion of reserves the France controls 10 billion, and can do whatever it wants with them: spend, invest, give as loans... including to CFA countries themselves, with inflated commercial interested rates.
**CFA countries can use only 30% out of their own reserves, which is too little to actually do anything, and France give them loans from their own reserves, AND on the conditions that they should be spent on French-produced goods and that the governments will give priority to the French companies.** Because of this some French companies Total and Orano have **EXCLUSIVE** access to natural African resources which Africans do not have access themselves.
Don't listen to CFA franc apologists. CFA countries are just French colonies with no sovereignty of their own. France and EU are rich because of imperialism.

I assume (and hope) you know we are not all fucking racists. For instance, in Quebec we have a strong group of progressive people who are very inclusive, but our political system have been favoring a conservative party that plays the "preservation of french language" and "the preservation of religious favoritism" cards because its electoral base are in rural areas.
I know, I know, it's not the point of this video, but over time, I get the impression that you hate all of us. Anyways... it's just an impression based on so much listening of your content so I could not really provide sources, so yeah, in the end it's only an impression.
I guess all I'm trying to say is I really like your content man, and while I don't agree with everything you say (like maybe 1% of unimportant stuff) I kinda look up to you (cringe I know) and it always pains me to feel like you would hate me because I'm francophone. I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling this way.
I'm sure most people understand that not all French people are racist. When people say "French" most of the time they are referring to the people in power who push the French language and culture as a conservative traditionalist tactic. The world wouldn't be the same without your art and food, which is awesome.
That’s what we call French bashing, since France refused to support the invasion of Iraq in 2003 Americans have been genetically modified to hate the French.
@@1011MLEYes it’s not like Americans in power also push their language and culture as a capitalist tactic
@@1011MLEit's honestly hard to watch this as a french person without feeling attacked 24/7. He definitely has a grudge against France more than other ex-colonial powers. Each time we're mentioned it's to get insulted smh. He def doesn't do the same when talking about the US' terrible policies.
@@ni9274No one actively pushes English, there is no central institution trying to promulgate or "purify" English, the same cannot be said for French.
had a heart attack reading that title lmao
Read the title too fast and thought Vouch was up to his old tricks again
Great video vausj!
Yes France has historically been the worst colonizer, but *shockingly* russia is trying to fill the vacuum of colonialism through Wagner (which is why prigozhin wasn’t killed)
thomas sankara was a good man.
10:30 You can extract Uranium easily from Ores, but enriching the desired isotope (I think U235) is hard, since it is chemically identical to the isotopes, so you can to separate them by the very small difference in weight, which can be done in different way, usually by forming Uraniumhexaflouride and using very very powerful centrifuges to separate them. That is not something anyone can just do in their backyard.
We must never get rid of our Khasham location
We see what you did there with the title, but we respect your rock steel balls editors.
That title almost said something different at first lol
American infantry is being deployed next month, I was hanging with a lady friend that had just got out on a honorable discharge for mental health, she get a facetime from an old buddy in infantry who asked her to marry him before he deployed lmao
Big fan of the international reparations idea
That wouldn't work. If so, I want usa to give money because they didn't help with our independence and I want the UK to give us 1 Trillion euro because the horrible things that happened in the past.
Reparations will never work as a concept and will only spark wars and bitter feelings all around. Especially when those who get reparations will still not stop talking about the issues born of prior actions, and then we get into the nitty gritty of who did what, when, where, and why.
Most often the oppressed were, at some point, oppressors themselves, after all. It's why reparations are either done immediately with those who suffered from it still living, or you don't do it at all.
Imagine being me on vacation without internet connection when this video came out. Therefore being unable to be the first person to make a joke regarding the title of this video. God why have you forsaken me. Canada was fun though.
This stream shows how Vaush is so disinterested in Africa
if your coup doesn't have the blessing of the military then, my friend, you don't have a coup
The Kurds did actually allow tankies and MLs to join, but the system of local councils makes it hard for anyone to take absolute control. Some of them came out of Rojava with a changed prospective.
Vaush continues to be surprisingly good at French
For an American
Dude you can just say
15:12 We literally did have permission. Explicit permission. We didn’t “sneak in special forces.”
France should pay back Haiti :REE: :REE:
V shitting on his followers at 53 min is the hero the world needs… 😅
Assad kind of IS the US's fault as he is another Baathist and the Baathists would be Nothing without US intervention.
6:47 Yes the proper pronunciation is nee-zh-air it’s how people say it in Niger. Only in America are we so lazy and unwilling to attempt pronouncing it right, so now most Americans think it’s Ny-jer cause in school that’s what we’re taught.
we anglophones simply don't respect the french language enough to pronounce words correctly
Africa always ends up getting the short end of the stick. Ugh.
Russia still has considerable spent fuel reprocessing facilities in the Mayak plant, they could use those capacities to extract and refine plutonium. I don't think there are any facilities currently working for the manufacture of nuclear bomb components, however. Those they would need to rebuild.
TLDW; Really scary stuff
The amount of your chat that wants to "gotcha" is ridiculous.
That's this community overall.
