- After Sabine Scherer, power frontwoman of DEADLOCK since 2005, took a break during her maternity leave, she has now decided to leave DEADLOCK completely to have more time for her family and her two children.
But no need to worry! With Margie Gerlitz DEADLOCK have found the perfect replacement and now Margie has joined as a permanent singer of the band. Her work as a vocal coach ties in perfectly with the quality and inventiveness of Sabine, without sounding like a simple copy. DEADLOCK have risen from the ashes, scarred, but with their heads held high, fully fueled with new strength and their well-known passion.
Songwriter Sebastian Reichl on the line-up change:
“I am extremely thankful for everything Sabine did for this Band and I am happy that she issued the blessing to Margie. She is a fantastic singer, performer and she fits perfectly with the team. Please welcome the great Margie Gerlitz as the new female singer of Deadlock.
Margie Gerlitz states:
“I'm very happy to have the chance to join Deadlock on the female vocals. Sabine and the boys formed a great band over the past years and I'm happy to be a part of it from now on. I'm looking forward to the future!”
Sabine has released a special farewell video for her fans and supporters. Keep your eyes & ears open, as this video includes a first audio sample with Margie as well!

I just hope we'll still hear some music with Sabine in the future. I just wanna say thank you Sabine that you were a part of one of my favorite bands and for your voice.
I started listening to Deadlock again just a few days ago, just my two favourite albums "Wolves" and "Manifesto". I remember the album names "The Arsonist" and "Re-Arrival" but I haven't really listened to those more than maybe a couple of songs when I saw that they had been released. So I haven't listened to Deadlock almost anything in the past 10 years or so and I had no idea Sabine had left. I'm thinking of giving that "new" album a try though and maybe try the other albums again. Wolves and Manifesto is amazing though and still holds up to date.

I still miss her
I'll miss her....
Usually I'm unphased by vocalists leaving my favorite bands. Above all, it's about the compositions and if the primary composers are still around the essence of the band is usually in good hands.
I feel this is true for Deadlock, but I confess they're one of the rare bands where the vocalist plays a significant role in my appreciation. Sabine's style has really left an impression with me and it's very disappointing to hear about her decision. Though it is certainly understandable.
That being said, the new vocalist sounds wonderful. She seems to lack the projection, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. There is a relaxed sense of control that creates a unique atmosphere. While her timbre is similar enough to Sabine's where it still feels like Deadlock.
Additionally, the guitarwork sounds like what I would expect from Deadlock. Perhaps even an improvement over the latest album, as I was a bit on the edge about their transition to eight-string guitars. So I'm confident this band's future is in good hands. I'm excited, but still sad to see Sabine go. I'm definitely not going to abandon Deadlock over it, though. :)

I really understand Sabine decision. I will miss her beautiful voice, but i understand she want focus her family. So i wish much a good for Sabine and her family! Im so excited for new album and i already like Margie voice!
3 years later and I've still only managed to listen to a few bits of Hybris. Her singing is poorly mixed so it doesn't help, but she's always off key and her accent is all over the place. Sometimes she sounds fine and other times she sounds like Dolly Parton like at the end of Carbonman. Fairly sure she's German too, so that makes it even more confusing. Personally I would just prefer not have the female vocals as without Scherer they just don't blend well anymore. Maybe there will be improvements in the future, but Hybris overall sounds absolutely terrible and not just in the vocal department. I hope they can clean up the mix in the future, if there is a future. Although with only one member of the original band still remaining I suppose it's best to consider post-Re-Arrival Deadlock a different band entirely.
I admit I was late getting into Deadlock, only hearing them for the past few years. While there have been many great songs, it was Sabine's vocals that made Deadlock stand out to me. I have to say though ... I saw this coming, and Sabine has to do whats best for her and her family. I am in no way saying I will not listen, but just saying it will not seem the same without her.
Thank you Sabine and Deadlock. We (Deadlock fans) hope for the best going forward.

That is sad (frowny face emoticon), I have enjoyed Sabine's vocals so much over the last few years. Looking forward to see how Margie steps up to the plate and hope that Sabine makes a comeback in the near future.

Nooooooo!!! I love Sabine's tone and her infectious melodies. It's a big loss and tough act for Margie to follow. I wish her all the luck though.

que tristeza. La primer cancion que escuche de deadlock fue martyr to science y la voz de sabine la considere la mejor voz femenina. espero que luego de un tiempo continue en otro proyecto.
