Dr Nathan Neil Yes. It is recommended that systems are tested weekly. If you have a grade A system so a panel, detectors and call points then weekly testing applies in commercial or domestic environments. If you have more of a domestic smoke alarm system you should be operating the system weekly. Remember, this is the guidance and is published in British Standard BS5839 part 1 and 6.
It is very clearly stated in the standards and to be honest it makes total sense. Even if they have it serviced by a maintenance company every 6 months, 6 months is a long time to find out if something doesn't work if it's designed to save your life! Let me know if you need any more info and let me know the outcome.
Dans the Engineer Yes, I agree. Thanks for your help. As far as myself and my Mum are aware they haven't been tested since she moved in (about three months ago). My Grandad sheltered accommodation have their alarm tested every week! I'll let you know how we get on with the property maintenance. Thanks again
I have heard this so often it frustrates me. They have an obligation. If you don't get anywhere (which is quite common) I will throw over some resources that you can use. It's great you are thinking about these sorts of very important things because many people don't!
I live in a converted town house, grade 2 listed building. My landlord has asked if I (being a tenant) perform the weekly test, is this legal? Or should I refuse?
Randomstuff25 21 the sounder that you hear at 1:05 minutes is an older style Channel Safety Systems bell. The other sounders you hear are Apollo XP95 integrated base sounders. Great product.

Should the fire alarm still be tested every week in a block of purpose built flats? Thanks

If something is not your responsibility, don't make it your responsibility.
Do you know what the sounder types were? I really wanna know. The noise they make was epic! what's your favourite sounder? Mines the Flashni sounder.
They are discovery sounder bases
Very useful video thank you

Dans the Engineer ahhhhhh ok I thought they were open area sounders👍😂
There is a couple of open area sounders on the system but you definitely can't hear any on this video as they are on the other side of the building.
Dans the Engineer if you can it would be good if you test this system and walk round the different sounders:)
Nathan 2000 did you want to hear the different sounders sounds?
See a good one
