First of all thanks for typing ( Full Frame and APS-C ) in the Title
You're the best!
Your reviews are much better than DigitalRev
That's my opinion...
Lol, so right!
Yes! useful than DigitalRev with kai
Xaby Sebastian yes kai did not review the lens but destroyed the lens
Yes☺️
Nah! DigitalRev's jokes. But somehow funny. This one though, is the REAL better reviews.
This is probably the best lens review channel!
Christopher you always come across as such a gentleman. Really appreciate your efforts with these videos.
gurudeclan
That come standard with the accent ..
Chris, I use this lens with my 50.6mp 5Ds and YES Image Stabilization is very important. The 5Ds images displays all your errors when hand holding unlike my 6D or 70D which I also use this lens with.
I have the Sigma and it misses focus often and find it is most reliable stopped down, so now I am considering the Canon 35 f2 IS, especially after listening to Dustin Abbott's glowing review of the Canon, esp. since the Sigma is so heavy and that gets annoying if shooting all day long.
Hi! I had the same problem with my Sigma (for photography). Turns out, there's an issue with wider prime lenses and focusing distance. Look up videos of the Sigma USB Dock with your lens or see if one of your local camera shops can tune the focus for you! It cost me about $50 and it was well worth it.
Great review. After owning this lens for almost a year with the Canon 80D, it is far from tragic. I used it recently at the Carlsbad Caverns National Park, in both shutter priority and manual mode, and it was simply amazing what I was able to get in low light with the image stabilization. It allowed me to push the 80D to its limits and know that the lens would be consistent regardless of the camera setting. In normal lighting and also with a speed flash, it is consistently reliable. It's my go to lens for people and family shots indoors. And is super fast outdoors in daylight. And lastly I can hardly tell the lens is on the camera. It's a nice weight for extended carry.
When changing the aperture on th canon 80D, can you use f/.2? I am asking because of the crop factor.
Josh S. I really appreciate this review . I’ve been looking at the Sigma 35 f1.4 , the canon 50 f1.2, and the canon 85 1.4... but I have the same set up Canon 80D and I recently went to the Carlsbad taverns in New Mexico .. my sigma 17-70 really good in the low light but I could imagine this f2 Thru and Thru would have blown me away.
So this lens is a great one for 80d camera? Can somebody tell what are the best lens for the 80d? I am just starting photography i only have the one comes in the kit. I want a lens for outdoors, portraits, and travel kind of lens. Can somebody help me
@@kvangel Yeah but the crop still plays a role. In the Metadata of the image you can even see 35mm as focal length when using this lens, even tho with a 1.6x crop this is a 56mm. That's because they use full frame equivalent measurements for this and don't convert it to your format. But because of physics, the crop factor ALWAYS plays a role. Because you simply can't beat physics.
is the lens sharp at f2
Man, that IS kicking in at 2:14 is super satisfying!
The Canon makes sense for someone wanting to have something they can throw in a small bag/purse while traveling that can take great photos, with the added benefit of IS for video if you ever need it. For me with a new kiddo and traveling in the future. It's the Canon all the way. And now at $550 everywhere it's much cheaper than the Sigma.
Your reviews are super helpful. I eventually got my hands on the 35mm f2 and I found it to be super versatile for my travel and street needs as well as run n gun filming! Uploaded my own review too. Thank you so much for helping me out by uploading this with such good comparisons
I've been watching some videos about lenses these days and your videos are the best. Your English is so easy to understand. I'm not sure about what prime lens to buy, between 35mm and 50mm, but I think I'm going to buy the 35mm because the image stabilization
Great video. I just used this to seal the deal on this lens for me to use with a Viltrox speed booster on my M50 and M6 Mark II. I use those almost exclusively for video and now I get it to perform like a f/1.4 wide open.
Your videos have been so helpful throughout the years, thanks a lot buddy.
the only issue I had with the sigma 1.4 lens is that it miss focus most of the time and that can be a real pain especially when you are shooting weddings. I use it on my 5D mrk IV and had to rely on the LCD touch screen most of the time to focus accurately. I hope this Canon lens does not have the same problem.
Never had any issues with focus accuracy with the EF 35 2.0 IS USM on my 80d. I'm on an R7 now, so that's no longer an issue, but this legs is just wonderful. It is by far my favorite lens...
This lens is still a bit too pricey even at this day
What's a good alternative to it?
Sadly my Sigma 35 wasn't focussing good enough even after using a tap in console... wouldn't focus at infinity accurately and still miss in between.
Sadly... because the overall sharpness and contrast was mindblowingly good at f/1.4.
Now I am happy with my 35 f/2 IS from Canon, although I only use APS-C and already get to see the decreasing image quality at f/2
in the outer areas of the field of view when bright highlights are prominent.
The blurred background has a lot of lateral chromatic aberrations, but well... the IS works great, it's compact and sturdy and good enough.
For a price of around 400€ compared to the Sigma still a bargain and hell, it focusses well.
I have brought sigma off and on for ten years I have up on them. what good is a fast lens if, as sigma does, it struggles to focus in low light. I went to canon and take on. also discovered to mine makes rock solid lens for wide angle APS C lens.
Finally got this lens but for crop sensor.. It will be nice sports lens for me and as a walk around lens. I like the extra contrast and sharpness i am getting over 24 and 50 STMs. Pictures look nicer straight out of camera and loot less work needed in processing RAWs for nice looking pictures. I hope it works well with servo AF..
I went back & forth between the SIgma & the Canon 35 IS. In the end the rebate from Canon won me over. I like my 35IS, especially for dark events shows (makes me wish I could afford the 70-200 II IS) and other dark events where the 1 stop difference isn't enough (I shoot w/ a 6D, frequently at 6400+). I figure I will eventually get the Sigma, though right now I am saving for a Tamron 24-70.
Always classy, well put together, and most of all informative videos. I owned the lens briefly for my canon 7D, and it performed very well. I decided that I would rather have the sigma 1.4 so I let this one go.
Best reviews ever on UA-cam
That is very interesting because in my country, the Canon 35 F2 IS USM is about $100 more expensive than the Sigma F1.4.
Great review as alway !
Hi Chris, many thanks for this review! I purchased one recently on eBay in top mint used condition. The image quality on my Canon RP is excellent. I can’t complain about sharpness, contrast and color rendering. And the IS does a nice job! 35mm is one of my favorite focal length. Best wishes, Ralf from nearby Stuttgart, Germany
How does it behave when shooting against the sun or other strong light sources (e.g. at night) - tnx in advance
you read my mind, when comparing to the sigma 35mm f/1.4. Thank you!
can you compare them
Another great review for yet another normal equivalent lens! Very timely, as I´m looking for this precisely.
Great review as always! I actually was thinking about getting this lens, so thank you so much for the review!
Yep I've got a Canon T5i and I'll be doing video recording so this is the lens for me!
Also I'm a cheap student lol
same here!
The best lens review ever 😍
I have this lens and it is great for taking photos of places. Well done on the review of the 35mm f2 IS lens.
I am often experiencing autofocus issues with this as it will loose focus and having a lot of difficulty finding focus again and my lense is brand new.
I am using a Canon 80D with this lense. Other than that it performs extremely well!
So you too have been screwed by Canon. So sad!
A
I love watching your reviews ! Help me a lot to chose a proper lens. Thank you.
Very nice review, during the next couple of months I will decide between the Canon or Sigma 35mm. I think I have to view both of your videos again and decide after that. Thank you very much an pls go forward with this quality videos.
Thanks Christopher. Your videos are second to none.
In 2021 I am watching this. I think this time I would go Canon as this would be good for video work. I got Sigma 50mm 1.4 and you sometimes get issues with compatibility. Like not detecting lens or funny circles on photos.
I relax with your videos man
hello! i bought a 6d and i will sell my 50mm stm in order to buy a 35mm f2 used one. i dont have money enough to buy a sigma. and IS is good. thabnks for the video. if you accept an idea, for the next videos reviews, shot in f2.2m f2.5 too, not only f2 to f2.8. this away we can see the middle results to get sharpness without losing 1 stop of light. I know that f2.8 is best, best it avoid good bokeh (dof). so maybe, if f2.2 or f2.5 presents good quality, we can use insted f2.8
Thanks for the idea. But the videos will be a bit too long if I start looking at image quality by every third of a stop increment.
Ranezy Murray am I the only one who's starting to like F/2 aperture better then F/1.8 apertures? I don't know why.
It is interesting that in those days you weren't using any print charts. I had some brief experience with this lens and even at f/4 it wasn't that sharp. I don't know if it was the copy I tested but I returned it and decided to stay away.
I bought this lens before the Lantern Festival this year and went to Tainan, Taiwan to shoot the dangerous and exciting Saltwater Bee Cannon
That is a very good review, thank you!
Watched the video with pleasure, even if I am not a Canon user.
I´ve seen 2 videos now and subscribed already. Great Video Christopher!
First, thanks for your channel and your reviews. Clear, concise, well explained information with samples. Outstanding work!
Second, is there any way to get the picture you are using to check sharpness and vignetting?
And third, I own this lens and I really love it, it's really fun and works really nice. I had the Sigma 17-50 2.8 with my older Sony a300, and I prefer the Canon35mmf2 (I'm not pro, I just prefer the 'feeling' with the canon and my unit had problems with vignetting).
I'm taking photography a little bit more seriously lately and I'm getting some used lenses (this 35mmf2, the Canon 50mm f1.4 which is fine but not outstanding, and a new 70-200 f4 non IS), and I'd really appreciate your opinion about getting the Canon 20mm or the Samyang 14mm as I'm looking for a wide angle prime lens.
Thank you in advance, and please, keep this fantastic work on!
Enrique from Spain.
I was interested in this as I'm currently choosing between the Canon and Sigma.
Bottom line: I'm not sure I want to buy a £600 lottery ticket.
I can see the Sigma potentially beats Canon in some ways but Sigma's QC and AF reliability coupled with Sigma's pretty dire history put me off it. These really count heavily against Sigma for me and I'm really struggling to convince myself to buy any of their lenses.
Great review! I'm hoping to get one of these!
Another superb video review !! Thank you !
At the risk of wearing out my welcome... any chance you're going to do a video review of the EF 24 2.8 IS lens?
The reason I ask is that you say you really like 35mm in a full frame as a "walking around" lens, and talk about how this particular lens with IS is a great one for video. For me (with my coming 70D) the closest thing Canon makes is that EF 24 (which translates into about 39mm). It seems to get good reviews on the web but as I trust what you say more than others I'd love to know your thoughts about it.
No huge rush -- it will be weeks before I get my entire kit together and I'm still shaking lenses out, but if you do get a chance it would be a great review to have.
A review is coming in April :-)
Christopher Frost Photography Cool, I'll look forward to it (apparently the 28mm is so similar that almost anything you find out about the 24 will apply to the 28 as well, just in case I decide on something a bit longer).
And while I know you said you don't do much (any?) work with APS-C any more, perhaps you'll at least address those aspects for those of us who aren't using FF cameras.
Mike Kelley
I'll be continuing to test lenses on APS-C as well as full-frame :-) God bless!
This lens has the highest rating out of all lens for the 760d apsc body according to DXO.
Another nice review video with a good comparison!
Thank you for your great videos ! Pls show us (or me) the EF 200 mm 2.8L USM !
greetings from Germany
The 200mm f2.8 is amazing, I have it quite a while and I love it. The sharpness at f2.8 is good but not perfect, stopped down to f4.0 or f5.6 it's still brilliant. For taking upper body portraits it is a little bit to sharp except for younger people :)
still relevant, at least to me. thank you for the effort and the sharing. thumbs up.
Very helpful review thanks! Particularly what you said in comparison to the sigma.
If this Canon 35mm makes all that whooshing noise during autofocus, I don't see how it would be a good video lens. Unless you're recording sound with a shotgun mic or with a separate audio system. But for me, that noise is a deal breaker because I shoot a lot of video and I want the option of using the camera's internal mic.
I wonder how well this will work paired with canons newer mirrorless cameras
I'm using this lens with EOS RP and very satisfied
How does the image quality of this lens, and the Sigma 35mm 1.4 compare with the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 at 35mm? Other than portability - is there any reason to buy one of these 35mm primes if you already have the 18-35mm? I'm thinking no, but I could be wrong. Great review by the way!
The Sigma 35 is sharpest but only a bit sharper than the 18-35. And the Canon 35mm has IS. But if you have the 18-35 then I'd just stick with that myself
One of the best ef lenses I once owned.
What happened to it?
@@monsieurgolem3392 I had moved to mirrorless, but, silly me, I should've saved it since, now, we can use them and all its abilities with modern adapters.
@@ngonzale3 I see
am gonna try it.seems exciting
Awesome review! Current prices of the Canon is about 34% less than the Sigma. I was wondering if that extra 34% is worth the price? I have a 70D and don't plan to move to a full frame anytime soon as this is just a hobby. (i think i might of just answered my own question there) Is the Sigma lens that much better?
It's a hard decision. Take a look at the comparison at the end of the review, which will help you make up your mind according to your needs :-)
I had some af issues with the siggy on a 7d and 5d2 body and returned it immediately. I figure even if I eventually get a good copy, the resale value will not be very good compared to a reliable L lens
Dear Christopher! -first of all i would like to thank you for your honest and helpfull work on this channel! Absolutelly Spot On!!!
Actually i do buyed my first DSLR, a Canon 80D. Seeing already a lot of reviews and comments from everyone on internet, actually i am much more confused than before choosing lenses for my camera.
Could you help me please in selecting between Sigma and Canon a set of lenses (from wide to telephoto) what could be the best to my APSC body. I think with 4-5-6 pcs of lenses i could cover all my needs in taking pictures even at night, even in sunlight, even closer of far. They could be zoom lenses or not. Practically with your actually knowledge what would like to buy for yourself to could shot almost everything in any situation. Thanks you again for your work, and believing in your knowledge. Regards, Zotya.
The best thing to do is look at some reviews to get a good idea for yourself. A nice start might be: Canon 10-18, Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 OS HSM, Canon 55-250 STM, Sigma 35mm f/1.4. It's up to you, and the kind of photography you want to do
Great review and incredibly relevant. I am currently trying to decide on a 35mm and it is between the Canon f/2 IS and the Sigma 35 f1.4 so this video is well timed.
Chris, do you have any thoughts on some photographers who run into AF issues on the Sigma? Is it just a small vocal group? Or does Sigma still have some lingering issues even though they've improved a lot?
Inconsistent AF wasn't an issue for me with the Sigma lens :-)
Amazing Review😱
Nice review. One thing that confused me though is that you say its levels of coma are no less than annoying and that it's an issue yet at the same time you say there isn't anything really wrong with the lens?
Well, that's one minor thing that's wrong with it
Alright thanks.
Apart from this lens are there any recommendations for a "normal lens equivalent", image stabilized prime for video work with an APS-C sensor equipped DSLR that spring to mind?
Anton Zandt No - this is the only image stabilized one I'm afraid
Alright thanks. The footage you took with it looks great so this is definately one to consider!
Hello Christopher, I'm really into buying a SIGMA 35 F1.4, but seeing some reviews I'm really worried about the AF issue in the Sigma's lenses. don't you think that buying a Sigma is a risk, because if you get a good one, it's perfect, but if won't, you'll have some problems to handle...
+Aleksander Schoeffel The minor AF problems you learn to deal with, if you really want the lens - and if it has serious problems then send it back for a replacement
According to lenstip.com the coma issues only affect full frame, not Aps-c
my next lens!!
Very informative, thank you
Hello Chris (and youtubers) - any advice on getting this canon 35mm IS versus the sigma 30mm 1.4 (NOT the 35mm)? I am trying for a "one lens one camera" solution for general walkabout and vacations, parks, and the occasional portrait. I am prioritizing portability and I have been having most success with a 22mm f2.0 prime (on an APSC sensor, the EOS M3 system, which translates to ~35mm FF equivalent). I also have the nifty fifty EF 50mm 1.8 STM, but I am getting tired of swapping between the 22mm and the 50mm all the time, and want something in the middle. (I think I can deal with not having a standard zoom range, dont want to deal with the weight and size of a 17-50 or 24-70 of any kind, and can break out my telephoto [just an EFS 55-250] for the odd trip to the zoo or shooting at the moon.)
What would you rather pick on an APSC sensor, the sigma 30mm 1.4 art, or canon 35mm 2.0 IS?
Thanks Chris! Your videos are incredibly helpful, thorough, and objective :)
id like to see this answered
I am in the same boat, can someone give advise pls?
Hi, I can't comment on the Canon 35mm unfortunately, but I have the Sigma 30mm 1.4 Art. I think it's perfect for the "one lens one camera" solution, as you call it. It's great as a walkaround lens on an APS-C camera. Since I have it I didn't really used the kit lens (18-55 STM) much, because with moving a few steps back or forward you can get similar angle of views like the kit lens offers, but with much better sharpness, and generally nicer looking pictures. The build quality is outstanding, and it just feels so great in your hands. It also balances very well with a Canon 700/750D, because it has around the same weight like the cam itself.
Then of course there is the 1.4 aperture, wich allows you to use lower ISO values in low light, which gives you cleaner looking pictures. You can also blur the background out completely at 1.4, if you are fairly close to your subject.
Having said all that, you'd still want to stick to your 50mm 1.8 STM for portraits, if you want to get close head shots, or head and shoulder shots.
Why?
Firstly, you really need to get very close to your model with the 30mm if you want to fill the frame with just her/his head, which can be a bit intimidating for the model, and also isn't so pleasant for you as the photographer. Secondly, given the slight wide-angle lens nature of the 30mm, the face will get distorted... the nose will appear to big, etc. You also get much more of the background included in your shot. So the 50mm STM is still a better choice for close-up portraits.
You could of course move further back with the 30mm and then crop, but of course that means extra work, and you lose some resolution.
So all in all, I love the Sigma 30mm, but I still kept the 50mm for the reasons mentioned above.
+David Mood thank you for the big write up!! already bought expensive canon efs 17-55 f2.8 is usm lens which will fit well walk around lens and I also have a new model of canon 50mm 1.8. thanks I am finally happy👍
Never underestimate Image Stabilization! Yes, a 1.4 let's in twice as much light, but a 4-stop image stabilizer let's you shoot at 1/8th the shutter speed you would use with a Non-IS lens. 3 stops of an advantage is huge! especially for travel and run-and-gun type shooting. Plus: video will always be better handheld no matter what. IS will always help your shots be stable, and you will get more sharp images per session.
hi nice video, just a noob question, the Image Stabilization works on canon 5DmkII?
sorry am really newby :(
Yup! All Canon lenses work the same, no matter what EOS camera you use.
How's the photography going?
Thanks for another great video! Dose the image stabilization in this camera beat out the Sigma 35 mm f/1.4 (with no object stabilization)?
For static or not so fast subject, absolutely IS and F2 is much better than F1.4 aperture of Sigma
Too bad that your methodology of testing lenses is based on Jpegs directly from the camera. You should use Raw format .
Hello Chris. Very good review one of the best Or if not the best I have seen. I wanted to ask you for advice since I am a total noob with DSLRs. I am thinking on buying this lense for my canon 80D but I also want to have zoom on it. What lenses would you recommend?
Either the Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8, or the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
Hey Christopher, thank you for another great video. I haven't found any video from you on the Canon 35mm f/1.4L lens, so I'd like to ask, for which one of the two (the other one being the Canon 35mm f/2 IS USM) you would go, in terms of image quality and sharpness. I only shoot stills.
I haven't tested either of the 'L' lenses, I'm afraid!
Now that the price is only 500 euro, it is so underrated. The sigma 1.4 is now much pricier.
I really like my 40mm pancake, but it has no IS for video.
+Aurelie Nani Yes, it's good to see that the price has finally dropped
+Christopher Frost Photography which lens is sharper the 40mm pancake or 35mm stm?
Hi Christopher,
I was about to purchase this lens to shoot handheld video with it, however I did not realize that the IS system itself can be very noisy, to the point that it´s easily picked by both the onboard and a top-mounted shotgun, as it is the case with the 24-105mm. Could you please comment if you have this problem while shooting video?
Cheers mate
I talk about that in this video review. It is a little bit of a problem
Christopher Frost Photography
Sorry mate, I missed your comment. The problem is a external mic is usually unable to mute the AF motor sound, so I´m not too hopeful if the IS is very loud. Have you tried it yourself?
And BTW, I found out the IS on the 24-70mm f/4 is much quieter than on the old 24-105mm, almost inaudible. Just in case you´re interested... ;)
+AVICIIZ Sorry bud, I finally switched to Sony. No noise problems in here... ;)
I've now heard good things about the 28mm 1.8 and this 35mm. Which would be best on a crop?
Definitely the 35mm. If you watch my reviews, you'll see exactly how they work on APS-C cameras
Thanks for the reply. That should have said "I've now heard", not that I haven't heard. Had to edit that. Sorry :P
Hello Christopher, I am from Petrópolis-RJ. a small town in Brazil. I am very gratefull for your videos. helped me a lot to choose my kit. I own a crop sensor camera and 50mm 1.8 and 24mm EF-S 2.8 and Sigma 17-50 2.8. 24 seems to small for me and 50mm too tight. Do you believe it worth the price on this 35mm IS? IS would be a great value for me.
Do you believe this 35mm is much better than Sigma`s and my EF-S 24mm? I can get 35mm 2.8 IS on my sigme, it is only havy. how would them compare. Just as a reference: 35mm IS cost 1.5x Sigma`s value and more than 4x the EF-S 24mm value...
Hi. Do you think this lens produces just as good image quality as Canons 50mm 1.8?
Great review!
Great work! Do you think will this lens work with a Cannon 650D for video production ??
Sure, of course
Hi Chris, I have watched many of your excellent Canon reviews and really enjoyed them. I just learned from your 2014 Canon rumors video that you are also a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Wow hallelujah to that my brother in Christ. Greetings from California
Thanks man, God bless!
Hi Chris... ive just upgrade to the Canon 6D and loving it with the 16-35 f4. However, I'd like a landscape/wideish type small prime to go with my 50mm f1.8 for travel photography. There seems to be a lot of choice! What would choose for under £500?
+Tom Davis Gee, I don't know...the 40mm f/2.8 pancake is actually extremely good. The thing about full-frame cameras is that they need pretty big lenses, that's why I've started using Fuji heh heh
Just want to say fantastic job on the video. It was extremely well put together and very helpful. One question though, as a general purpose lens for an apsc body. Would you prefer the IS of the Canon 35mm, or would the benefits of the sigma outweigh the need for IS? I ask because I am planning on selling my 17-40 F4L and replacing it with a 35mm prime and then the 10-22mm efs wide angle.
Thanks
It's a super hard question which I look at at the end of this video. I'd probably go for the Canon because I value IS for video work
Ok. Me personally I do not shoot video. However I believe that the IS would still be a major benefit for low light shooting, as the 35mm would be my general purpose lens?
Nolan Speller
It's up to you really - if I were just shooting still photography I'd go for the f/1.4 lens
Hello Chris! thanks so much for all of your videos :D, I am I have a crop sensor camera and I am indecise on whether to buy one of the two lenses compared on this video or the Sigma 30mm 1.4, what would you recommend? I shoot mainly beauty portraits, but I do use them also for videos :)
If you're doing handheld video, then you'll definitely want the Canon lens
The best Lensa Review
hello chris, I'm having trouble choosing a lens. I have a canon rebel t5i, and I'm looking for a landscape wide lens where i can have both the background and foreground sharp and clear focus. Also affordable too.
do you have any plans on the 35 1.4L lenses? :D
Hopefully sometime! No plans in the immediate future - but I do want to.
Why no 35mm ef f1.4 version 1 review 🥺🥺🥺🥺🤔🤔🤔🤔
I own both lenses..sigma is simply too heavy and does not have IS. I like doing photo shoots but also like doing behind the scenes with video work using the IS
hi chris what would you recommend this 35mm or 50mm? for photo and video work
It's a good time to change your picture quality test place... It starts to get a bit dull with that house
Well, the idea is that it's a good flat target to shoot against, which shows sharpness and CA well, and I want it to be the standard so that people can compare lenses across my reviews :-)
Which of the two would you say has the nicest out of focus rendering? And which of the two would you prefer as a walk around?
Which two? If you mean the Sigma 35mm, then take a look my review of that lens, it should give you all the info you need.
Is this a good lens for full frame camera? I am talking about 6D canon?
If you watch the video...you'll find out!
I wonder how the new stabilized Tamron 35mm f/1.8 handles itself compared to the Sigma.
+Erik Nyberg I'll be testing the 45mm VC in the new year
+Christopher Frost Photography
do you think you'll be reviewing the 35mm as well?
+Andy Nguyen Nope - they're too similar (apparently exactly the same optical performance) and I'm too lazy hehe
Christopher Frost Photography I see. I was thinking that they might be really similar too. Thank you! I'll be waiting for the review
Thanks for the superb review! Could you please tell me, if this lens is suitable for crop (canon 750d)? For portrait and landscape pictures as a non-professional? Most of all I shoot my kid, she is always in motion, so it's important to focus properly
Depends what you mean by 'suitable'. For all the infoz I can give you, watch the review :-)
should i buy this lens or the ef 35mm f 1.4 L lens MK1 version? i heard the ef 35mm f2.0 is usm looks the same as the 1.4 mk1 version in sharpness .
Nice colors on your video, care to share the picture profile and colour grading ?
All I really do is add a touch of contrast occasionally
Christopher Frost Photography What about your settings on the camera ?
Thanks =)
Joseph Chian
No special settings. I normally use the portrait profile
Hi Christopher this is probably a dumb question. Currently using a 70D with a 24-105 will images using the EF 35 look exactly the same as the 24-105 set at 35? This question relates to angle of view/perspective not glass quality/F stop….. Asking as one is a standard zoom and the other a (semi) wide angle prime, not sure if that changes anything?
Horse Radish 35mm is 35mm, so yes, you'll get the same perspective :-)
Christopher Frost Photography Won't there be difference between 35 mm prime lens and 35 mm zoom lens ?
+Emmanuel Nalli The only difference (usually) is the prime has a bigger aperture compared to a zoom lens (I'm presuming Horse Radish is using the 24-105 F/4L) but still have a reasonable price. 35mm is 35mm as Christopher mentioned. No difference.
Thanks for brilliant review. I'm still a bit confused though. I have a 70d and will be wanting to shoot video, will the lack of IS on the sigma be a problem? Thanks
Well, take a look at the review and compare the image stabilized footage to the non-stabilized, from about 2:07
hi Chris, i'm tending to get a travel prime lens
could you give some advise between sigma 35 1.4 and canon 35 f2 is?
Is Siggy bloody more heavy than canon ??
i use canon 600D and i want to get high IQ
i have sold sigma 30 art cuz i hate the CA and weak corner sharpness
thank you :d
Hi Christopher, would you say the coma issues are not relevant when its on a aps-c body? thanks.
Hmm, not sure really

So apparently not relevant for Aps-c?
Hello Chris! Do you think this is a good portrait lens, does bokeh have quality? Is street photography also recommended? I have a Canon 50D. Do you recommend another lens for my purpose? Thank you so much!
For portraits (and maybe even street photography) I'd prefer a nice 50mm lens. Check out my big comparison video
