    📌The Cannes bodyguard who was accused of racist treatment of several celebrities is allegedly facing a 100,000€ lawsuit. Ukrainian TV Host and model Sawa Pontyjska shared that she also faced mistreatment at the Cannes Film Festival and decided to sue the festival for mental and physical harm. As more and more people are coming up with racist accusations against the bodyguard, the situation is not looking good.

      TBH the Korean film and TV industry could in my opinion actually take over the main market if they do not go the way of western media, in terms of sexual content, foul language and lewd content.
      The reason the k pop and k dramas are so popular is because they do not mirror or align themselves to the degeneration which has overshadowed the western industry.
      The actors are held accountable to their actions off screen, the way they treat people, the way they behave, their lifestyles etc.
      It was nice the same in the western culture and acting industry, now the worse they behave the better and so those that follow them think this is the way to go,.......
      Look at western culture it is going down the toilet do not let your culture follow.......

    While I agree that racist treatment towards celebrities from Asia is unacceptable (racism towards anyone is unacceptable anyway), it’s not like Korea or any other Asian countries are innocent either. They love stereotyping foreigners and putting people (including their own people) into categories and boxes anyway. It may not be in the form of a slur, but in East Asia there are no anti discrimination laws or protections. The West on the other hand does, and most Western people wouldn’t condone this behaviour. It’s bad on both ends. But in the end, ignorance and racist behaviour have no colour.

    I think it's always important to remember that the Cross-race effect is a very real cognitive bias that doesn't necessarily come from a place of hatred but rather from a place of ignorance. A lack of exposure to other races will legitimately make it difficult for a lot of people to really tell other ethnicities apart. The more you engage with people from other ethnicities or with medias from other parts of the world, the more obvious it becomes to discern specific traits, facial features, speech or linguistic differences, etc. I'm not trying to justify discrimination or trying to reduce one's experience of discrimination, but to just make the generalization that it's purely racism is not really helpful either. This is something that happens in every part of the world and the best we can do is educate ourselves and the ones around us so that we can see and understand each other better.

    • @laylammorais
      @laylammorais 4 місяці тому +1

      I don't think it is an excuse but it depends on what the person is coming from. Because media is generally affected by American and European cultures, people tend to be more aware where they might be from - although being ignorant and remaining ignorant and blaming on that is what shouldn't be excusable. In the case of Hollywood interviews for example, the person doing the interview should have known the actors backgrounds to be able to do a deep interview. Celebrities are usually self-centred and don't care to know much about others history and experience so it is definitely ignorance by choice. I couldn't tell many Asian people apart because I wasn't in contact with that since my hometown doesn't have Asian immigrants. After I got involved with K-pop it opened a new world for me and it's easily different from before. Now, my family and friends still can't tell them apart and they comment on things that sound racist to me, but because I know them, I know it's because of ignorance. I get to educate them in a lot of things related to Asian culture, and they're slowly changing those comments to more of a curiosity tone. There's so much to uncover about if it's either racism, flat out ignorance or the cross-race effect related to ignorance.

    I’ve watched over 700 Asian drama and films from 7 countries since retirement in 2016. I would recognize quite a few SK actors since Korea is the most prolific in entertainment, but alas I am 71 and can’t remember their names! There are many such as Zo In Sung, Gong Yoo, Lee Dong Wook, Song Seung-heon, Lee Min Ho, Seo In Guk that I feel certain I could recognize but would not always pronounce their names correctly! I’m truly 😢sad that these actors have experienced the systemic racism and stereotypes here in the states; it seems that it has only gotten worse since 2016. Since I rarely watch American television these days, I would be hard-pressed to recognize quite a few of the A-list white actors! They just don’t appeal to me!

      I agree completely and I’m a Black American! I don’t want South Korean actors and actresses put in Hollywood films because they will be disrespected on all levels by Hollywood writers, directors and many actors. The South Korean person, particularly the actresses, will be treated like fresh meat in a prison. Most of the people they encountered would spend great energy scheming to corrupt the women morally. And if any of the South Koreans who tried to enter the Hollywood market are susceptible to “ white skin worship” they would literally be dead on arrival in terms of their own efforts to maintain their cultural, ethical and moral dignity. Finally, the South Koreans, who are revered as beautiful in the Asian diaspora would be treated as backup scrubs to many b-grade White actresses and actors. It would be dishonor and disrespect 24/7!
      Asian American and many Filipino/Filipina actors and actresses have more experience with western culture and racism and have developed a wider array of counter measures and coping skills than their East Asian peers. But even they will tell stories of the heavily discouraging treatment they received from mainstream western media.

There are many clips of the same staff member (the female) doing this to Caucasian women as well as they attempted to make a pose to show their dresses. She was hands on with all of them and unrelenting in her determination to thwart the celebrities of even taking 3 seconds to pose. See the Ukranian/Russian? clip where the woman had a melt down when this was done to her. In other words, she treated ALL abhorrently in equal measure.

South Korea and the west, including the United States and Great Britain have serious problems of racism, but they are implemented in different ways. If people would just lighten up and open their minds, these stupid things would not be happening worldwide. By the way, I do not see Asian men as weak because my favorite Kay drama star is Park Soong Woong, he always plays a villain, but he is the manliest looking guy I’ve ever seen!

    It’s a bit of a stretch to deduce that racism is the only conclusion one could reach from this video. I feel that the words “ignorance”, “rudeness” and “arrogance” would be more appropriate.
    The woman who bumped the beautiful Korean actress was just plain rude. Jaime Lee Curtis is ignorant. If she happened to watch “Marriage Contract”, she’d know and respect Lee Seo-Jin. It certainly would not have hurt for her to ask him who he was and what his role was at that function. But, of course, many of these actors have an inflated ego. She’s the daughter of a Holocaust Survivor. Let’s give her the benefit of the doubt.
    Having watched over 100 Korean dramas, I am full of admiration and respect for the whole production teams involved. Please don’t allow such incidents to poison your opinion of us Westerners.

The good thing in America, we all start in the same footing. Now Asians leads modest lives in America besides handicapped by prejudices and discriminations. The most important thing we put food in the table, shelter, living the American Dream and the endless possibilities. That if you are not LAZY.
