@Aarav :0 Lahore was only the capital for about 13 years. Fatehpur Sikri in India was the capital for 14 years, Agra was the capital for 80 years and Delhi (Dilapanah and Shahjahanabad) was capital for 124 years. Delhi and Uttar Pradesh was definitely the core region of their empire, just like Bihar was the core region for the Guptas and Mauryans, and Maharahstra was the core for the Marathas. Majority of their monuments were built in this region.
@Aarav :0 its interesting to know that according to British censuses, Punjab did not become Muslim majority until between the 1800 and 1900s. Before Sikhs and Hindus combined were a larger group than Muslims in Punjab. The only regions of India that were Muslim majority during Mughal times were Sindh, Kashmir and East Bengal (Bangladesh), none of which were core territories of the Empire. Kashmir became Muslim majority during the Kahsmir Sultanate, East Bengal under Bengal Sultanate and Sindh during the Arab caliphate. Punjab was not Muslim majority.

@RhodesianSAS1994 not really tbh, the fact that the UK was able to industrialize quickly and raise their GDP per capita was by dismantling the handmade cloth production industry of India and forcing indians to buy their British manufactured goods, made from Indian raw product. Of course there are multiple reasons for this, but what I stated was I'd say one of the primary ones. And with the arrival of the British came the downfall of the Mughal empire, which had historically always had contributed a huge chunk to the global GDP.

"Jp barely the size of california managed to reach 78% of US economy (although it's a big bubble)" This is barely an achievement, this just shows how economic measurements were highly flawed, like they are still today.
It's a bit of a misconception to say that Britain 'destroyed' India's wealth. In reality it's just that the UK economy (and the economy of Europe in general) grew much faster than the Indian one so, by the time of Indian independence, Indian GDP made up a much smaller percentage of the global total. As seen in these graphs, Indian GDP never actually fell during British rule. Also worth noting that while the Mughal economy was much larger than the British one in the 18th century, it was only because it had an absolutely massive population. On a per capita basis, the British economy was much richer from the outset.
GDP is a tricky number. It's like in the US a cup of coffee is 4$ and the country has the capacity to produce 6trillion cups. In china it's 2$ and they can make 10 trillion cups. If you just look at gdp it looks like 24 vs 20 trillion USD and the US is ahead of 4 trillion worth of coffee, but they are actually behind 4 trillion cups. In purchasing power China overtook the US in 2014. It isn't just about coffee, but it means China can build more roads, more schools, more hospitals, more railways more weapons more everything.

There's a 0% chance that tiny east coast america with 2.7 million people had the GDP of 27 million population Tokugawa Japan before the industrial revolution even kicked in to make such differences even possible. The U.K. was powerful because it controlled trade and also because it was the first industrialised nation. Remember pre-1820 the world economy was based in agriculture. Hence why India and china’s was so high.
@@Luca-nu2zg he’s still correct. Measuring gdp of older countries is tricky, but before the age of industrialization, the population is of course a large factor. Germany did the same in the early 1930s, rapidly building up the Luftwaffe and reich army despite the ongoing effects of the great recession and massive inflation. @RhodesianSAS1994 did you know British were not the first to start industrialization in india🧐

@@Gary_The_Man76 What did she say that was funny?

@@pletskoo514 population is important but efficiency matters the most, the US economy is the most efficient in the world. The average US worker produces 6 times more wealth than the average worker from China.
And China’s population will decline to 800 million by the year 2100 whereas the US population will increase to 550 million by 2021. And China will still be less efficient than the US, with much more of their population being older and a burden on China’s economy. They are having a demographic crisis.
India on the other hand has way too much corruption. It’s systemic from the very bottom to the very top. They’re economy grows because they have a huge consumer base and import a lot of stuff. What genuinely shocks me is that in the 90s Germany and Japan were literally still the leading economies along with America. After all that destruction they managed to turn their country around in such a quick time. The truth is that Germans and Japanese people are so hardworking. Capitalism or not, they turned their country around for the better and I think that should forever be acknowledged and respected.
They did, and they are. But, they also had the mandatory advantage of not being able to devote money to building and maintaining militaries.

The Dutch economy is the exact reason I have serious doubts about the validity of this video, the 17th century was called the Dutch golden age for a reason, the Netherlands utterly dominated the world's spice trade and could buy its way into winning wars against France which apparently has a bigger economy.
But yeah, colonialism I guess, and the Dutch committed actual genocide to achieve this economy...
@@TomSistermans who was actually genocided by the Dutch?
On top of that, the bulk trade in the Hanseatic trade league was WAY more profitable than the spice trade... What you're saying may be true, but it doesn't change the fact that during the two periods I highlighted - WW1 (5 years) and WW2 (7 years) - the overall GDP of the USA rose enormously while that of its main rivals did not (and in many cases they contracted). @@sandal_thong8631 Russian revolution doesn't make sense, but GDP going up during wars is pretty common. The government allocates more resources into industry, construction, and other economic boosters. Also, people are made to work longer and harder.
@@sandal_thong8631 GDP going up during wars is common. The government rapidly increases military spending and logistics. Think US in WWII or Germany in the 1930s. Both countries invested a lot in weapons build-up. The US went from having a smaller navy than France to almost 20+ carriers, 300+ destroyers, 70+ escort carriers, 300+ subs, 100000+ aircraft by 1943, millions of tonnes of merchant vessels to supply allies. Germany did the same in the early 1930s, rapidly building up the Luftwaffe and reich army despite the ongoing effects of the great recession and massive inflation. All that production adds to GDP, thus increasing the number. GDP is just a number.
