Basically, he is saying get coverage on your script and find someone who can introduce you to an agent then wait... I encourage most of you to rethink that whole process and think outside the box. Relationships are still important, however, there are attorneys out there who will submit your script to specific direct contacts (you find) at studios, agencies, and prodco's! Fees for the latter range from $495 - $750 per submission, on average.
It is certainly a possible avenue. But depending on the type of work you do, at the rates you quote, working to earn the amounts required to pay the attorneys may take longer than investing that time in actively networking. Cheers, Karel
Hey Karel did you post the whole interview for this video yet? and if not when is it coming because I can not wait😊❤️... I love this channel, Thank you for all you do...💕♥️💗
That's not an easy question. But the truth is that most writers write about ten before selling one... Keep writing, reading scripts, and watching our videos (in that order). Good luck! Cheers, Karel
Another one occurred to me now: Are you familiar with Andy Guerdat, Jacob Michael, Pamela Kay (Word Dancer), and Adam Skelter (AKA Adam Argot)? I wasn't until very recently (although I might certainly have randomly watched something written by good ol' Andy). My point is that they all know the craft quite well and were willing to share tons of really useful bits of knowledge with us amateurs. These are the ones I could find who would give us some personal feedback, but: Pamela has been nowhere to be found for quite a while. Adam interacts once or twice a month. Jacob only takes finished scripts (he does answer our questions thoroughly and is incredibly honest), and I can't afford Andy right now, but I certainly will if he's available in the near future. Those "reading a couple pages of your script and fixing it" on UA-cam can be really cool when well done. I loved it when Adam did mine. Long story short: there are tons of services professional screenwriters can provide to aspiring writers. It's plain to see. Cheers!
Wow! A lot of bitter writers on here. If you’ve got a great script, it will be recognized. If you suck, then it’s on you. A negative attitude gets you nowhere!
Ok, what is the deal here? How come so few watches and likes? Why do I feel I know your face from elsewhere? Anyway, thank you so much for this and the other videos! I do have a couple of questions, though: 1. What does it take to be a screenplay Reader? 2. How does one effectively become one (I read and write -- if you know what I mean). Cheers!!!
It's early days (both for the video and this channel). :) The stats are tracking well above average (2.5x) And did you mean Michael's face or mine? Are these two questions disguised suggestions for better titles/thumbnails? 😎 You can always ask the questions to Michael directly if you're on Facebook. He regularly posts to the (private) "Screenwriting" group.
@@TheStoryDepartment I did a vid on BARRY where I got 20,000 views. Some other ones - one I even shot at Randwick TAFE which got 6k. Let me know Karel if you need help in drawing that demo (my age bracket) Caleb
The prick has never been produced, but has an opinion. I have had my work read by some people of the kind and found out they had no clue. Sadly, getting past the door is a matter of lack and nepotism. Once you do, then you do alright.
We all have opinions, only ... He gets paid for his opinion by those companies that many of us want to work for, which gives his opinion more value than others. Luck is certainly involved, and there certainly is nepotism in the industry. But that doesn't discount the value of good writing. Cheers, Karel
Michael has worked for a few Hollywood companies, including 101 Studios, who created Yellowstone, 1883, and The Mayor Of Kingstown. Solid stuff! Cheers, Karel
@@TheStoryDepartment eh can anyone write or approve a script that doesnt have a murder, gratuitous sex and violence. I can't relate to most of the stuff on netflix or these ones you referred to. SOS baby, (same old $hit)
Premise, Structure, Character, Story, Dialogue. That seems like a pretty good curriculum!

I've written a few scripts and I'm proud to say, not one has failed... they all got a pass.
Every pass gets you closer to entry!

Thanks for repping us story analysts well, Michael!!

Great interview! Thanks for posting this.
Thanks!
I'm posting a video on Alex Garland's CIVIL WAR over the next few days, and I'm keen to hear what you thought of that one.

Interesting helpful vid.

Excellent stuff so really the only way is to somehow make a friend in a closed off industry? Sounds tough. What about the Blacklist?
Are you asking about the annual Blacklist, or the coverage service?
I wrote a script how do I get it published
