Mike, you the man!! There is a lot to be said about an owner operator willing to dive into a repair project of this magnitude and turn the OEM replacement process on its $ss. Well done DB…your commitment and drive to win is outstanding and commendable to say the least. Haul on and Rock on young man…winning!!
Got to, if you want to keep your money. I'm changing my radiator tomorrow. A friend of mine took his to a shop. He doesn't like to get dirty. 5 grand, including radiator. They won't install an aftermarket. Great job dirt boss!
Doncha love sticking it to the man? I always try a short cut. Sometimes it works… other times… well the man wins. I had a plastic tab break off my push mower shroud a few years back. Replacement parts weren’t available. I went over to my neighbors metalworking shop to make a metal bracket to hold it in place. He suggested welding the plastic part on instead. So, we carved a sliver off of the hidden part of the shroud. Then he took out his soldering iron and melted the shroud, tab and sliver together. It wasn’t gorgeous but, it held together and still does today. I realize that’s a low pressure application compared to your radiator neck… but, it might have worked better than JB weld for a temporary repair. You did a most excellent job of capturing the details, frustrations and victories of this project. Thanks Boss!
I had to see how this worked out. Actually it's a lot easier removing the entire cage. Disassemble & reassemble on the ground. You had the cage down to only the studs at the bottom. One person can lift the entire assembly . Just did a Pete tractor exact same failure. 5-1/2 hours out & back in. Still a great job. 🙌🏽
Also, if it's an older truck, the rust is going to swell the joints where the rivets are and make it almost impossible to slide in without removing from truck. (Ask how I know) As far as one person lifting...if I had removed the hood, maybe. I'd say the entire assembly weighs over 100lbs and picking it up and over the side of the bumper was a pita
Glad people are taking the time to make videos. I’ll have to say this time I’m glad I watched because I figured out how I didn’t want to do it. I pulled the condenser around like you did and set the CAC in the hood and unbolted that little cooler and left it in place and set the radiator unit out as a while and it took about 3 hours total.
On youtube it's always easy but in real life changing a modern truck radiator is a real hassle in hell especially in the middle of the fields, well done!
As you know Mike they tell you it can't be done because they want to make lots of money from you. And you are the man to prove it can be done faster and that you can save lots money doing it your self. Great job Mike and thanks for showing us.
Well Done Mike!! With that light tower, it is like you are in a stadium. People may start asking for your autograph when you go out in public (if they don't already)
You da man Mike! Job well done my friend. You just saved yourself a boatload of money by doing that yourself. My hats off to ya. Great video. Thanks for sharing!!
good work Mike, can't imagine what a truck shop would have charged, probably a arm an a leg, awesome video mike, thanks for sharing 💪🇺🇲 kicked it in the butt✊

Stay safe & carry on!👍👍👍🛠⚙️🔩🔧💪🤠🍺
Binge watching the Dirt Boss! Mike awesome content and you’re such a skilled operator! I enjoy the repair videos immensely. Hope to get through all your uploads!
I recommend this video to anyone that thinks being an owner-operator is a walk in the park. It’s the seemingly little things like this that wind up being the biggest pains in the neck. Yeah, he could take it to a shop, but when you’re a self-employed operation, every penny counts. So you learn to do it yourself and do it right. There is no room in the budget for error. And just when you think you’ve got it fixed ... another problem rears its ugly head. Plus, there’s family matters to attend to that take time. Somehow, despite the obstacles, Mike keeps going. He has no choice given the investment in his operation. It’s the least glamorous part of the operation, but the underpinning of everything else, and quite often the difference between profit and loss.
Hey DB thanks for the video. My wife and I were up in Windham having breakfast and I was thinking this about the time Dirt Boss started the site work on that lot in Windham, so we decided to take a drive past it to see how it was coming along. It's looking like its getting close to finish, I snapped a couple of picks but I can't figure out how to upload them to the comment's. Site is looking nice and stable! Jice job!
Good thing you got the light tower because you wouldn’t be able to sleep, you be tossing and turning all night waiting for the sun to come up!! Nice work Mike💪💪 Happy Halloween 🎃 👍🇺🇸
Unfortunately, when we bought used trucks, radiators were one of the first maintenance items we had to deal with. Those plastic tanks do not last. We averaged about 10 radiators a year. We had an overhead mobile crane that we used. A lot of times they removed the hood to get things out of the way.
As the owner operator myself people don't understand why excavating work costs so much one little Part can cost you as the owner thousands of dollars plus the labor of putting it in I know you're pain mike good job buddy
It is time for engineers to actually work in the field for which they build these motors - access is terrible. I'm absolutely sure they never have or you wouldn't have faced the fixable problems you faced. Well done.
