i find myself vibing to a lot of the songs on MMLP. Criminal, kill you, real slim shady. Once you really know the lyrics they are definitely fun to vibe to!
a lot of ppl young who hate on Eminem was too young to witness that First 3 album run. it was a special and groundbreaking moment in hip hop where a white dude not only could make great hip hop but be legit better then anyone in the game, WITHOUT having to rip off a black rappers flow. it was unique and honest art.
@Fries terrible beats, hard to listen to staccato flows. em raps about similar things he has had for 20 years (long over due for him to talk about something else). cringy features from Bey, Ed Sheeran, and others. it is like what if nickel back made a rap album. his voice is a pain to listen to and his flow does not fit the majority of the tracks especially "Walk on water" the contrast between beyonces singing and his staccato rap is not a fun or good listen. he needed severe change but instead of going to maybe a jay z 4:44 type of vibe he went into the fast rap lyrical Miricle rap which wasn't terrible but still he can't seem to find the old energy he had before. It's the only Eminem album I legit deleted off of my phone.
As a 23 year old I can't help but look at Recovery with nostalgia-tinted glasses. On another note, the best Eminem song to me is White America; you really feel and hear the passion and anger he has towards his role in society at the time and he portrays his stance very vividly in his words. The production on that track is also super moody, which reminds me of something I think TES does the best of any Eminem record; its production is relatively consistent throughout in sound and quality, and what's more impressive is he did it himself.
" Hip hop is never a problem in Harlem only in Boston After it bothers the fathers of daughters starting to blossom" What a fantastic way to call out upper class condescendance towards hip hop
White America should've been a direction he took more often. He could've moved on from the shock factor stuff and gotten a little more conscious, because the dude is clearly really analytical of the world around him, and I think he could've pulled it off. TES is my favorite Eminem record to this day because in a lot of ways it feels like a more serious Eminem without most of the stuff that's usually super cringey for him, and it feels so much more mature than most of his catalog too. I agree on Recovery, too. That album was like the soundtrack to my senior year of high school and I have a lot of fond memories of it, haha
@@brandonayong5823 and that’s just one of the many fantastic stanzas in the song. Seriously, every line is so perfectly crafted. If you ever wonder why it seemed like Eminem didn’t have much to say after The Eminem Show, it’s because he blew off all his steam on White America.
The Eminem Show is S tier for me hands down his best album. You get a little bit of the goofy Em, The serious Em, and the angry em all wrapped up in 1. Every track is a banger I can listen to the whole album start to finish. Superman, soldier, dads gone crazy all forgotten bangers!!!!
Regardless of whether you think Eminem is great or whack, the most incredible thing about him is that he is still alive today. I was a teen when his original albums dropped. We were all sure that he would go the Cobain and Jim Morrisson route and be dead in a few years, either by OD or suicide. If someone from today went back to the year 2000 and told us that Em would still be alive in 2023, we would all laugh at him. To me, it is incredibly nostalgic and heart-warming that Em is still alive today. The man is an absolute icon to my generation.
@@zackamania6534 i feel like people forget he is a human and has a family and a regular life too They focus too much on his music like its the only thing he has of value in life lmao
For Anthony standard, I think that is a good top tier list. Personally I think that SSLP is “A” tier, had in my opinion de best Em voice; calm and smooth. And where is “To Hell”with Royce?
Mockingbird and Like Toy Soldiers are two of his Top 15 songs ever. There’s some more pretty good songs like Yellow Brick Road and Encore but the entire middle section is half assed unfunny garbage.
Idk how he missed Mockingbird on Encore. It’s some of Eminem’s best storytelling and encapsulates huge aspects of his life. I was introduced to Eminem through Not Afraid and became a big fan ever since. But damn Mockingbird hits me deep every time. That chorus gets me
I was going to NA meetings in 2010/ 2011 and that was back when people had ringtones on their phones. Like half the people in there had Not Afraid as their ringtone lol. Him and Steve-O def inspired a lot of junkies to get clean. I bumped tf out that song while I was withdrawaling, ngl lol.
Relapse has aged the most wine-like of any Eminem record for sure. When it came out after Eminem had disappeared off the map for years, it was impossible for fans to want to come back to a “fun” record. People wanted Em making statements and shouting again. They basically wanted Recovery. But now that so much time has passed, listeners can go back to Relapse and truly enjoy it for what it was. Dumb, fun, and technically brilliant, without Em rapping so fast that it’s devoid of a digestible rhythm. Just a fun silly time that is nice to come back to 😎👌
No it hasn't lol. His voice is unbearable on over half the tracks cos of the accents he puts on. The lyrical ability shown is one of his best correct, but the album's sound has aged terribly cos of his voice. Relapse has pretty much aged like Encore but slightly better. Cinderella Man on Recovery is his best song since 2002
I love Relapse but this is a garbage take. I would almost argue it's kinda losing it's lustre with age. How you could possibly think Relapse is aging better than MMLP or TES is beyond me but. I guess we all feel how we feel.
TES is my favourite Eminem album. To me, it’s him at his peak as an MC. The voice was less high pitched and just normal, the flow was way tighter and on beat, the rhyme schemes were melodic and almost instrumental additions in combination with the focused flow. His presence on the mic feels BIG on the album. And since he produced it himself he really catered to his own musical ambitions on it and the result was perfect.
I actually prefer the Higher Pitched voice and He also really started with the angry screaming Eminem on TES that I really despise on his later albums. I respect your opinion though and totally get why one would think of TES as His Magnum opus
mmlp all the way for me, tes and sslp has its meh/ok/whatever tracks like superman, say what you say, hallie's song, dads gone crazy, cum on everybody, if i had, as the world turns that prevent it from being top 1 mmlp has no skips (ignoring kim) and are all great at the very least imo
Eminem Show is one of my favourite albums ever. Even tracks like My Dad's Gone Crazy, Square Dance and Halie's Song I could listen to 1000 times and never get bored. Then don't even get me started on Busines, Till I Collapse and Without Me. I think he really perfected his wordplay on this album too, as you can get most of the bars first time, and then second or third time you'll get almost all of the rest (and I say almost all because I was fairly young when it came out, maybe if I was a bit older it wouldn't have even taken that long). They're clever, but if you're listening, you'll catch them and enjoy them, and if you're not really listening, you'll still enjoy the flow. I would call myself a die hard Stan but tbh I can't really get behind a lot of his stuff from the past decade or two- you legit need a written copy of the lyrics, preferably with another copy of the phonetical spelling of the puns, to catch what he's doing even on songs you hear 20 times. There's nothing wrong with making something you can always dig deeper and deeper into and enjoy more each time, in fact its a really admirable achievement- but you have to be able to just enjoy the bars on a basic level first, or else nobody with an actual life is going to keep replaying to catch everything. The Eminem Show got that absolutely perfect blend of almost every track being totally listenable to the point you could put it on in the background and do stuff that required your actual attention, but still you'd occasionally catch something that made you smile or think- and if you sat down and listened to any given track properly you could replay and replay it and still feel like you hadn't get everything.
Recovery wasn't that bad of a record, you got songs like Cinderella Man, 25 to Life, Space Bound, Going Through Changes, Won't Back Down, Love The Way You Lie, Not Afraid. He sounded a bit more hungry on his verses picking up right after Relapse.
Some of these tracks suck hard imo. Won’t Back Down gives me a headache. Not Afraid is painfully corny. Love The Way You Lie is just generic bad pop rap
@Rouge I think Not Afraid was mainly for people just going through a rough spot and fit the 2010 timeline perfectly since shit like that was VERY popular in 2009-2012.
Beautiful is one of my favourite Eminem tracks, it’s something that has helped me through some of my worst moments and pulled me out of my misery. It’s incredibly powerful, deep and meaningful, one of those songs that hit you so hard.
Personally Relapse has been one of my favorite albums ever since it released 10 years ago. People blasted it for the weird accents but I always appreciated the dark storytelling, dope dre beats and skilled wordplay. That album will always be a classic for me and I still listen to it to this day. A true cult classic imo
How old are you? Relapse came out when I was 12 or so and first listening to rap and angsty music. Definitely influenced my view of it way more than it otherwise would lol. If u turned a teenager in that era it captured a part of ur soul despite not actually being that good
he was correct about the hooks. He has cleaning out my closet, till i collapse, without me,sing for the moments which have one of the best hooks of all time to VENOMMMMMM
I wanna agree with what ur saying I really do. But kamikaze doesn’t have a lot of tracks. The ones that stand out tho (The Ringer, lucky you, not alike) can’t make up for the rest of the album. Music to be murdered by has more listenable songs as well as recovery. That’s all I have to say. I could go on about the whole list if I wanted😂
I think MMLP2 at C tier is very harsh. I get why Relapse is there despite loving it as it is pretty polarising. MMLP2 though has probably the perfect blend of Eminem from every era. You have your more modern sounding tracks like The Monster and Survival, but there’s also some really fun/hard hitting moments like Brainless and Evil Twin. The emotional beats are there too with Headlights being a standout. I get there’s a few duds but idk if it’s just me I feel like B tier would’ve suited it better.
Honestly I thought C was kind of generous 🤷 I probably would have put it lower. If not solely for the fact that he tried to make a sequel to Stan, which never needed a fuckin continuation. Cringe to the max every time I hear it. I'm also convinced that's the only reason the album was titled as a sequel to MMLP. That and to drive marketing and hype for a mediocre at best album with maybe 2 standout moments.
he called Relaspe a "lackluster" LP in his MMLP2 Review and it seemed he liked that record a lot more than Relaspe? He didn't call MMLP2 in regards to lackluster, so I'm a little confused on why they are in the same tier, but it's probably more of a B- / C+ for him and Relaspe more a C- but either way, it's his opinion, and it probably changed, so I respect it. Personally I don't mind, but I would rate it a bit higher. Also yeah, MTBMB reminds me of Recovery in terms of quality, intentions, and trying to be relevant, so I feel like him putting both in F tier makes so much sense, MTBMB is this decade's "Recovery", and we can only hope for a MMLP 3
Nothing Em has made since 2003 really holds up. MMLP2 was decent-ish when it came out, but does anyone ever go back to that album these days? It belongs squarely in the C-D tier if you ask me.
Yeah I really don’t think I would have rated it WORSE than Recovery, that’s for sure. But then again I probs wouldn’t have ranked Recovery as high as C either.
i hate to sound like a crazy stan but how do you not like "like toy soldiers"? one of eminem's most chilling choruses and great storytelling with production that fits it well.
The Slim Shady LP isn’t my favorite but it has my favorite song and I can’t believe you didn’t mention it. Idk maybe you just don’t relate to it but Rock Bottom is one of the most relatable songs I’ve ever heard. There’s so much emotion in it and lyrically I think it’s one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard.
Relapse is definitely an oddball, but it’s a top 3 for me. The beats are not as perfectly crafted as his early albums may have been, but I think the weirdness of the album is really what makes it fascinating. The bagpipes sample is so crazy to think about in hindsight when you consider who he is or was. The album ages super well but also doesn’t at all, that’s why I love it
It's like a blend of finding identity being a sober human and also finding an identity post-bling era. Not saying that Eminem in that sound, but what made him stand out from his contemporaries had become no longer unique and it's such an salad of different ideas. There's a shitty olive or two but Underground is like a hidden delicious tomatoe in the salad if u know what I'm saying
The biggest problem of that album imo was his accent. Some say it fits but for me it ruins everything. It even makes me not wanna revisit the album. For that reason i end up liking Encore more.
If you look all opinions of Em recently albums only Revival and Kamikaze really don’t like him. MTBM I and II received a positive fantano review, but a bad score.
I don't get this whole " Fantano hates eminem" reputation. He praised mmlp2 a lot. He praised walk on water. He was one of the few that defended Em freestyle on Trump. He loved kilkshot its one of his most positive reviews ever on the channel and he praised eminem last album a lot especially the Darkness song
The hook is probably my least favourite hook on the project, but the substance of the song is super impactful. Really amazing track despite its awful chorus
@@uriel4274you know the song mockingbird one of the most emotional songs ever recorded that was from encore the album that had my first singl eand puke
@@a-don13 Rightly so. Mmlp2 is close to be a classic. The bonus edition alone is better than some of his full albums " Don't front" " Groundhog day" " Desperation" " Wicked ways" " baby" " Beautiful pain" That's a crazy set up
That Eminem has had so many shitty albums and songs and yet is STILL considered one of the best for his run from 1999-2004(ish) is genuinely impressive
Idk I feel like Eminem has kind of overwritten his legacy with so many shitty albums. It's not like the original run was among the greatest of all time, and he's made one of the worst hip hop records
It's also weird because the stuff he's known for now is almost nonexistent on those older albums. The quadruple-entedres and lightning fast flows appear only on later albums and he basically rode off of those, and most of those rhyme schemes and flows weren't even good.
Honestly, I always considered you an “Eminem Hater” but your Tier list is well thought out, measured and for the most part I agree with it. *Unsubscribed*
He is "new eminem" hater. Revival wasnt great but its also not the worst album of all time, on the other hand, kamikaze is lyrically and technically one of his bests
@@nextgen89 Kamikaze has a few highlights sure, not alike, the ringer, fall, stepping stone. But the rest is mediocre to downright unlistenable [Jesse Reyes on nice guy, ugh] Its all over the place and as an album its pretty bad, 4 good songs and 7 bad ones isn't a good ratio at all and is on par with encores ratio
The Way I Am is still my favorite Eminem song to this day, the repeating piano in the background is so simple but i love it so much. Lyrically it also feels very passionate like you can really feel his anger in that song
I mostly agree with this list but I think The Eminem Show deserves S-tier. It’s the perfect follow up to The Marshall Mathers LP. It takes everything that was introduced in that album and goes darker and deeper with it. Plus it’s still got several songs that are funny and theatrical. I honestly have a hard time picking which of those two albums I like best.
I always switch my opinions between the 3 and which is better but for now Sslp the most consistent with only 3 eh tracks Mmlp raw and hungry as ever with the worst tracks besides kim are just "good" instead of great or amazing Tes sounds polished, mature and mightve been his best if songs like superman wasnt holding it back
I agree. I love it more than MMLP. Better flow, catchier lyrics and production work. It may not be as daring or pushes the boundaries of rap like MMLP, it’s aged better for me
@@zaiah9252 agree really but what makes me hesitate to easily have it above mmlp are songs like say what you say and superman, theyre alright but it lowers the avr score
Beautiful is still my personal favorite Eminem song. Clumsy? yeah, Weird singing? yep, but it kind of fits the narrative. The song was partially written during the first time he went to rehab in 2005 (around the same time as "When I'm Gone"), and finished when he got clean in 2008, he added a third verse then put in on Relapse. Its the only Eminem song you can really "vibe" to.
Yeah beautiful is ironically beautiful because its lack of energy and its sloppiness really drive home what em was feeling and going through. It felt like art from his soul rather than the poppy bs he makes sometimes now
it makes for a more objective take when you don't know. the concept, idea, backstory and inspirations could all be high and mighty sleek as fuck but when the song's shit, it doesnt really redeem it. that being said i love the song anyway lol
The Eminem Show is top three Hip-Hop albums for me in terms of being able to just come back and listen to it cover to cover. Business is the song that brought me to the genre, and Sing for the Moment is just plain relatable (mostly the first verse). It also has some of his best production. Edit: I’d also put M2BMB a teir or two higher but I can see why it’s not so universally liked.
I agree. I still remember going to a music shop in 2002 (V-Shop to be precise) and they had stacks of the album on the front desk days before release, and I pleaded with the person behind the counter to sell me one before release date lol. They didn't but ever since my first listen, I've considered this album a classic. His flows, the production, the topics... all of it is just peak Eminem to me.
This video made me realize that 25 to life, Talking to Myself and Cinderella Man are actually underrated tracks. I think I might be amongst the minority, to say that the Recovery album is actually really gold.
Recovery has a lot of slappers. Like damn he comes out with Cold Wind Blows. On Fire. Won't Back Down (jeesh what a crazy energy). Space Bound. You're Never Over (come on man). Almost Famous?? (Wow) Cinderella Man.
Same here, some songs were kinda weird but there were also some great songs in it. I wouldn’t go as far to say that the album was bad tho considering that Mockingbird and Just lose it are two of my favorites by him
TES is definitely 10/10 Self made beats, more passion, matured, the half of the album are hits and the other half is at least good and enjoyable. Really good lyrcism and rhymes. Self reflexion 10/10
@@Ismael-kc3ry “I am dead, dead to you as can be!” Said to his mother. Sing for the moment is full of corny lines. His lyrics were witty and clever on MMLP. ES they weren’t as well written. Simplified. I wouldn’t call it edge lord if it was actually funny: “I ain’t gonna shoot you, I’m going to put you to this bullet and pull it through you” that’s funny, clever, edgey without it being sophomoric. “Come inside of her and have a son and a new brother at the same time and just say it ain’t mine” now that’s arguably edgelord until you consider the context of the song where he’s talking about doing wicked crazy things, that was the last line of a verse where it escalates to the point of absurdity. He was like a good writer on that record. Don’t know what happened. Too many drugs?
@@ExcitedAnacondaSnake-hg8ec You gave one example of a "corny" line and failed. Like how are you gonna cherry-pick and still get it wrong lmao. Also if Sing For The Moment, an actual honest expression of his feelings on his fame untainted by the edginess of the previous album is corny, then an embellished story of a fan mailing him and then killing himself because he's heartbroken he couldn't marry him is fucking hilarious. Also if you want "edgy" lines from MMLP then look at the title track, Marshall Mathers, where he calls ICP the f slur like three times in one verse, followed by a skit where he acts them out sucking Ken's dick for thirty seconds. Or on Criminal where he talks about liking to stab queer people, on Who Knew where he acts like its hypocritical for parents to not want their children to hear his music but also teach their daughters how to wear makeup. Or on the opening for Marshall Mathers where he talks about walking the decapitated head of a dog, I guess because it sounds cool? I fail to see how that isn't a pointless, edgy filler line. I shouldn't even have to give examples, because the idea that something isn't edgy or the edginess doesn't matter if it's funny makes no sense, because humor is subjective. Not to mention that way of thinking is hypocritical if you're gonna call TES "corny". If something isn't edgy because it's funny, then something isn't corny because it's heartfelt. I don't even dislike the songs I mentioned from MMLP, but his writing is absolutely better on TES. He actually digs into his feelings on his fame and ponders how he got to the point that he was at, his responsibility as an artist and performer, and discusses his anger both through boastful and threatening lyrics on Soldier and more levelheaded and self-critical lyrics on Say Goodbye To Hollywood, Sing For The Moment, Hallie's Song, etc. That's a sign of a genuinely good writer in my opinion, not him just lashing out like a fucking child at everyone who doesn't like him on MMLP, as entertaining as that is to listen to.
@@ExcitedAnacondaSnake-hg8ec That line dedicated to his mother is dark, honest and heartbreaking so I don't know why you mentioned it. Also Sing for the Moment is arguably his best song, definitely top 10 and there isn't a single corny line on it. Agree that MMLP is Em at his finest but the Eminem Show is just as good, maybe less clever and creative but definitely more serious and personal.
From all songs you picked on Like a toy soldier? On a hit? You know is his personal list than you trying trash Hits. Encore is not best album but it got hit
I can’t quite put my finger on why Revival is so bad, but it’s WHOLE vibe is just asking me to turn away and never look back. Anthony gave it the exact amount of time it deserved here.
I think there’s some really good songs on it. Arose, castle, Walk on water. But unfortunately they’re overshadowed by the amount of bad songs. I really don’t think it’s his worst album though. I personally feel the worst is relapse
@@zerosn0w428 the three you just listed are the only good songs on Revival. A few others are ok, but the majority is just garbage. Also gotta respectfully disagree on Relapse. Not my favorite album of his, but pretty solid overall with songs like Deja Vu and Beautiful.
One I'm curious on Anthony's thoughts are his original EP/record, Infinite from 1996. That one personally is my favourite just because it's such a different and non-angry flavour compared to all of the albums that were ranked in this video.
Yeah but tbf I think it's so unknown because Eminem and his agents or whatever are pretty intent on keeping it unknown, like it's not on any streaming services or anything. Eminem himself basically said that he saw it as a demo or something like that. So my guess is that he doesn't like his own first album and doesn't want other people to highlight it. But yeah I agree, it's a very interesting project in retrospect just because it's so unlike anything else he's ever done.
I was never more happier seeing and listening to Kamikaze the night that it dropped. I was going crazy Em brought out the side that I have been waiting to hear for so long. B tier or higher for me.
I agree bro. I loved kamikaze. He just decided to go ape shit on everyone and dissed fantano, which I think is why he's salty and ranking it so low. There's very few albums ever that don't have a few duds. I rank based on what the album did to me and how it caused a stir.
The only thing I disagreed strongly with on the video was Kamikaze. I think it deserved to be higher. One can argue about Recovery and Relapse, but come on, Kamikaze deserved to be higher. That's just an opinion though, the only true fact as I said in my other comment, is that Revival is objectively his worst. Also, maybe part of it is that he went from Revival to Kamikaze. If you listen to MMLP2 then Kamikaze subsequently, does it change your opinion? For me, it still holds strong in a lot of ways, but you notice the vast difference of styles in a lot of ways. Still, at least one or two tiers higher in my opinion. Recovery is D, and it's almost insulting to give Kamikaze a D, so I'd at minimum put it with Recovery in D or raise Kamikaze to a C. Anyway, hopefully it wasn't ranked so low because Melon got dissed lol although he didn't deserve the diss, neither did a couple of people that actually got dissed. There's a few cringe Em "lyrical miracles" on it, but still, lyrically he did great and it was pretty dope hearing Em on new, more modern beats. Anyway, done, peace.
@@dabs.47 im not gonna say all songs were fire like a regular Em Stan would Defiantly some joints I didn’t like on there like I didn’t like Is Nice guy or the song “Kamikaze.” Venoms chorus was annoying but I thought his verses were solid. Beat was hard as hell. But I loved turning on Stepping Stone in the gym. Songs like Not Alike, Lucky You, Greatest, Em ripped. Hearing Fall for the first time I was so happy he finally said something to Lord Jamar. And Good Guy was a great track.
Imo that track is too intense to be an intro, 3 a.m as the first track after the Dr. West skit intro works better for the overall tone of the album. It would have been perfect as the outro, but Underground is a gem too so I don't know
Marshall Mathers LP is still one of my favorite albums of all time. It’s probably the best example of a “Well f you then” piece of art in the history of media. So many great songs with fantastic beats and clever storytelling on Em’s part. It’s understandable how he’s never been able to match it because I don’t think he’s ever been as angry, passionate, and locked in at any moment of his career.

Now that you’ve done this, WE NEED an official ranking on where you would rank all of Kanye’s stuff. I would love to see how you rank albums like 808’s, Graduation, and especially Donda
Will never forget Recovery. Em found his pen again with relapse and came back after adopting a lot of the wordplay that was being used by the biggest artists at the time. Drake, Wayne etc. He updated his game and catapulted back to the top.
It was a new direction for him. Personally I don’t loveee all the songs on it, but it does have some real modern classics like not afraid and love the way you lie. Plus No Love is probably Eminem’s top 3 greatest verses EVER, he spits fire in that one it’s nuts
People hate on Em. His "bad" albums are full of lyricism that nobody gets. I doubt this dude even listened to Kamikaze or MTBMB because to me they are both S tier lol Kamikaze is probably the most lyrical project I've ever heard and MTBMB is right up there with lyricism and his references and cadences in both are incredible. I've listened to, broke down, and studied the lyrics to damn near every Eminem song he has put out and honestly I couldn't even fathom putting any of his albums under B tier. With my S tier being MMLP, TES, Kamikaze, MTBMB, and possibly Revival for its hidden lyricism and the way it connects to the listener. Personally, Eminem hasn't even reached his peak yet. He keeps improving and his lyricism keeps jus reaching new levels that nobody else has ever even came close to.
S: TES, Recovery A: Encore, MMLP, Kamikaze B: MTBMB C: SSLP, Relapse, Revival D: MMLP2 E: MTBMB 2 F: ……….. Call me crazy, placing SSLP and MMLP very down below but personally I just don’t enjoy them as much as the others.
@@kavynryan3159 i don't think you have listened to any other artist. by the way everyone understands his "groundbreaking lyricism" it's just that most of the song being wordplay for the sake of wordplay gets very old very fast. every song dropped on any album after encore has absolutely no substance
Other than recovery I completely agree. Maybe I’m weird but recovery is my second favorite Eminem album, it hits in all the ways that you describe it to be like a cinematic method. It sounds like the formulas from lose yourself and till I collapse, the stadium shaker type tracks that really get me going.
Same. Now to be fair, Recovery was my first Eminem album so it holds a special place in my heart from when I was younger. But I think it's a solid pop rap album.
Recovery is Eminem current all time peak to me personally but if he dropped something that tops it for me that statement is void also kamikaze is great
Relapse is literally top 3 for me. I have grown to love it so much over the years. Like once that album clicks for you, there is literally no going back.
YUP!!! as a kid i hated the accents and overall vibe in relapse, and i LOVED recovery. but as i’ve grown, i appreciate so heavily his creative integrity in relapse. and recovery sounds more like a “safe” release than a legit form of expression by em. i think within the last few years i found myself adding more relapse songs to playlists and now i’m a huge fan of the album. just straight up creative and experimental. can’t hate on it, and easy to love “when it clicks” like you said
@@TomasZombieDogGame i hated the album too cause of the accents. But once you get past it, like it becomes so addictive. I legit listen to that album atleast once every week/ 2 weeks
Something that wasn't brought up about Encore was the fact that leaks and torrents kept forcing em back into the studio to stuff the album with more songs to fight the loss of sales. He's actually talked about how half the album was basically recorded within a month of itself.
Yeah, I still remember the day a bunch of those songs dropped online. They came on a bootleg called "Straight From The Lab" and it was a bunch of "mostly" finished stuff from Encore.
Yeah and I believe if the original album featured the great stuff that was leaked (most of the Straight from the Lab EP) and maybe more better tracks Em could've produced without the continued hassle of having to rush out stuff to fill holes left by leaked songs it could've easily been SSLP or even TES level. The Deluxe is a C-Tier anyways to me if you skip the shitass middle part of the album.
@@ekifi Same thing happened with Lil Wayne. I remember hearing "A Milli" on a mixtape like 6 months before the album dropped. And The Carter III ended up being a fantastic album. I think Wayne just said "fuck the leaks, what's good is going on the album". Difference though is that Wayne wasn't battling his demons at the time of recording that album. Em probably didn't that kind of mental clarity.
The Eminem Show will always hold a special place in my heart. It was essentially my introduction to hip hop. It was the only hip hop album my dad owned, and I played it hundreds of times before I purchased one of the first albums I put up my own money for, and another one of my favourites- 2001. Edit: A tier. Anthony knows what's up.
@ghost mall Me too. I turned 23 on August of that year. Don't worry, man. Most needledrop subscribers are Gen-Z kids. There aren't many Gen-Xers like us(Em's original fans) around. Yeah, we could be the dads od these kids. 😄
@ghost mall my father was also 23 when the album came out, I was four and can remember Without Me and Superman constantly being on the radio. I'm from Detroit so I'm always going to have a bias towards someone from the city but there's no other artist that's had as massive of an influence on me. I honestly think Em is better now than he ever has been, which blows my mind to think that someone started their career when I was born and has only gotten better as I get older.
One thing I can say about Eminem is that everyone has their personal taste and favorites when it comes to him. I've seen people think relapse, recovery and mmlp2 are his best albums. Yes there are some who think REVIVAL is his best album. There's a lot to him but everyone doesn't like that. They like certain things. Some prefer accent em, political em, raw em, pop em, lyrical em. It's why you see so many divided opinions on his projects. Your least favorite is probably someone else's favorite.

@@LuisCastillo-rt5nk Could be said he bit Nas who bit AZ who bit Rakim who bit A Tribe Called Quest, etc. A lot of those early dudes were influencing one another, and all came out sharper because of it. I recently re-listened to Relapse & was very surprised with how much I enjoyed it. Some tracks are unlistenable, like Insane, but it’s a very fun & unique album. It’s ironic that as a teenager I loved it when he discarded that album in the lyrics for Not Afraid but years later, Relapse is actually a much more enjoyable record than Recovery.
I personally just really love Recovery and MMLP2. Relapse is annoying to me, much like Encore, it feels like it's trying too hard to emulate what came before but it just doesn't work as well. It's much better than Encore which is BY FAR his worst record, don't @ me Revival haters, but it's just kinda mediocre.

i'd really like to see this too! although anthony doesn't seem sold on his production or his sometimes overly verbose style (personally i dig it), he seems to get pretty consistenly good reviews and i'd love to see how his albums stack up against each other
What he was able to do on Recovery feels under appreciated. He found a way to bring his edginess and brash style to a mainstream and palatable place. Completely capitalized on his following and gave the world exactly what it wanted. Super impressivve
I’ve been revisiting Em’s discography lately and having a blast doing it. Those first 3 albums are absolutely incredible. Encore and Relapse aren’t bad either. Recovery kinda sucks and it’s hit or miss after that, but he’s still a GOAT.
My opinion SSLP is an 8 MMLP is a 9 TES is a 9 Encore is a 3 Relapse is a 7 Recovery is a 6 MMLP2 is a 7 to 8 Revival is a 2 Kamikaze is a 5 And MTBMB double album is a 7
You can tell Proof's death (amongst other things) affected him musically and emotionally around the Relapse and Encore Era and a little bit of recovery also. Nobody should go through this type of tragedy.
Nobody should go through a friend dying? Why not? It’s a natural part of life. Even someone dying of unnatural causes is something that happens every day. As someone who has had many friends die of unnatural causes, even tho I miss them, I’m grateful for the strength it’s given me. I almost find it offensive that you think a friends death is some shocking thing that is unique to Eminem. I’m not sure if my friends’ deaths have effected my work in any way other than inspiring me to push harder.
It’s crazy how much I feel people literally forget about MMLP2, I love that album, feels so out of place for the time but it just sounds so different to the stuff post relapse, not sure if that makes sense but it’s just a new age classic. Also, Revival at F is crazy, that shits below F, shit is gross outside of 3, maybe 4 songs
Groundhog Day was still blows my mind to this date, the delivery, the flow, the rhyme, and the raw-ness just straight up fire and remind me of his early work. Even though it was just a bonus track but the fact he nailed this on his age of 40 was quite impressive.

Yellow brick road is unlistenable to me. It sounds like a song someone would make in their first month of rapping. His lyricism doesn’t make up for the rest of the flaws imo
My 1st Single is literally one of his worst songs. That beat and mix make me wanna puke, how do you listen to that and think "Man, this is a great song"?
Dude same. Still probably the most disappointed I’ve ever been by a record I had such high expectations of. I remember getting to Puke/Mosh/my first single/rain man/big weenie and just thinking what the fuck.
As an ex heavy drug user, I can say that I love Encore. I know that sounds crazy, but shit sounds different to drug people. Big weenie was hilarious bro. 50 killed it on Never Enough. People should give it a listen and just pretend they are high on like... all the drugs.
I'm an ex heavy drug user too man but songs like Big Weenie, Puke, Ass Like That etc. are just hard to listen to, bad lyrics and forced comedy that should have never been put into music. The only thing that saved that album from being Eminem's worst project even below Revival is the production as Dre is great as usual.
All the trash songs on Encore have a weird "so bad they're good" quality to them. I will be the first to say Big Weenie is the most pathetic diss track I've ever heard from Em. I will also be the first to say I routinely listened to it on loop as a kid.
Really didn't expect this one...I won't act like I'm not a massive Em fan, but for once, I can appreciate how you articulated this list. Headlights from the marshall Mathers LP 2 is one of Eminem's most mature emotional songs. It's quite underrated and it has a positive message of forgiving those for their toxic transgressions especially towards family.
The production on Relapse, outside of Beautiful, is the best part about it. And having Dre produce most of it gave it more consistency in his production than on any album after that
@@MouseR985 I just don't think it fits in with the rest of the album. Most of Relapses beats are creepy and most songs have this deranged persona in the lyrics. But then Beautiful comes on and it's this rock sample with Eminem using a normal voice and sounding very sober (and frankly one of his worst technical rapping performances). To each their own on their enjoyment of the song, but I think it's a jarring contrast to everything else on the album. Lol yeah I just criticized Eminem for NOT using an accent on Relapse.
@@jonsmith1956 I agree it doesn't really fit with the rest of the album, but after all the hardcore songs in relapse I thought it was a really nice change.
" Hip hop is never a problem in Harlem only in Boston
After it bothers the fathers of daughters starting to blossom"
What a fantastic way to call out upper class condescendance towards hip hop
White America is better than Stan, based
White America should've been a direction he took more often.

WHEN YOU WANT SOMETHING BAD ENOUGH TO STEALLLLL
His flow in that song and the way he rides the beat is just fucking amazing
I’d say Relapse has the best, most expertly created beats of his entire career.
Deja Vu might be his best song imo
Production wise and creativity wise it's brilliant but as far as album structure and atmosphere I think mmlp2 was better
The biggest problem of that album imo was his accent. Some say it fits but for me it ruins everything. It even makes me not wanna revisit the album. For that reason i end up liking Encore more.

It's also weird because the stuff he's known for now is almost nonexistent on those older albums. The quadruple-entedres and lightning fast flows appear only on later albums and he basically rode off of those, and most of those rhyme schemes and flows weren't even good.

@@ExcitedAnacondaSnake-hg8ec the lyrics are significantly better than some of the edgelord nonsense on his previous two records.
I agree bro. I loved kamikaze. He just decided to go ape shit on everyone and dissed fantano, which I think is why he's salty and ranking it so low. There's very few albums ever that don't have a few duds. I rank based on what the album did to me and how it caused a stir.
Kamikaze is by far his most underrated projects
Everyone's still overlooking Infinite, his first album ever. It still ranks higher than a lot of the rest of his discography.
I had to scroll through a ton of comments to even find a mention of Infinite, these people don't even know some of Em's greatest songs
It's so fucking good
It’s one of my faves but, you gotta admit he was kinda biting Nas style, which is okay, he was finding his own style yet. nonetheless it’s a pretty great album
@@LuisCastillo-rt5nk Could be said he bit Nas who bit AZ who bit Rakim who bit A Tribe Called Quest, etc. A lot of those early dudes were influencing one another, and all came out sharper because of it. Some cadences and style might be there but Infinite is still pretty uniquely Em with the wordplay, production wise it's just more a product of its era.

I like Insane
@@songoku9063 Technically it’s decent but the lyrics for me, about the step Dad in particular, put me off.
Fuckin love Insane, its fun!

You can tell Proof's death (amongst other things) affected him musically and emotionally around the Relapse and Encore Era and a little bit of recovery also. Nobody should go through this type of tragedy.

@@JesusChristSaves. which is why I said "amongst other things"
Proof died in 2006 so had no impact on Encore at all. Drugs and leaks definitely did, though.
@@spookhyskeleton bro Encore was released before proof death

@@MG-gn6ni Whats mosh doing in that row? Its a great, serious track. Similar to White america
Beautiful is one of Em’s greatest songs of all time.
Really didn't expect this one...I won't act like I'm not a massive Em fan, but for once, I can appreciate how you articulated this list. MMLP2 as a final album and Evil Twin as a final song really does work conceptually, I'm glad we have stuff since then cause even if none of the albums have been groundbreaking they all have some worthwhile content, but MMLP2 would have been such a dignified end to his career.

Mmlp2 is probably my favourite eminem record. The more modern vibe while still showcasing his technical ability and willingness to take the piss out of himself when he's not serious is genuinely really great to listen to. And he has a lot of genuinely introspective moments that made me go "wow..."
MMLP2 is EXACTLY what I thought TES was going to be and THEN some. TES is fine but it goes on a BIT too long and there are some tracks that I skip. MMLP2 is TES if it showed his serious side and wacky side in a tighter consistant sound.
