For many decades, his studio recording of this was my all-time favorite, at least until I finally heard Cortot's recording. And then I had two favorites. And now I have three. Thanks much, Livio.
This is one of the first concertos I ever bought on LP some sixty years ago or so. I loved the music, knew it was performed well, but was still a bit inexperienced as to just how great the entire preformance represented. But, I loved it then and it has stood up as still one of my favorite concertos, and the performance as good as it gets. Thanks. P.S. I still have the LP.
had to read your comment twice to make sure it was mot mine ... it's exactly what I experienced, at the same time, my first LP, I too have it still and - guess what: It's one of my dearest recordings of this wonderful concerto.
Jean-Philippe Collard (Previn/RPO; EMI, 1987) is fully the equal of anybody, and seems moreover to be the only person who can just about get up that terrifying triplet staccato scale a tempo, midway through the finale!
I wore out the vinyl of this recording in 60s as a kid. Thanks for posting!
Who could surpass the legendary Cortot/Munch? But there is much life, passion and grandeur too here. Thank you for uploading this version.

Casadesus had only this Saint-Saens concerto in his repertoire, but he played it a lot. It was the same with Artur Rubinstein and the Saint-Saens #2.
He did'nt like this concerto.
grazie!
