- I turned a Harbor Freight Apache 4800 case into a top case/top box for my 2021 BMW F750 GS for less than $75.00.
Materials list:
1 BMW F750 GS or F850 GS with factory luggage rack similar to the one shown or something similar
1 Harbor Freight Apache 4800 case
6 M6 x 40 bolts, however, these were too long, choose wisely
6 ¼” inch by 1 inch stainless steel fender washers
6 ¼” inch by 1 inch (or more) rubber washers, you can opt to use silicone sealant instead
1 ¼ inch spade drill bit
1 tube of blue LocTite

Genius! Lockable and tough.
I'm glad you liked it. It was very easy to do. Thank you for watching.
I did this with a ridgid tool box from Home Depot for my versys 650.
Look ok. The box was black and orange. It was big enough to hold two gallons of milk and other groceries.
Loved my versys. Shoulda never sold it!!!
Motorcycle stuff is ridiculously priced. I just got a 24 Honda Africa twin sport dct es. They want 500 per aluminum pannier. Hell to the no.
Good Job. No longer consume a lot of money for damn Givi bag
That’s a good idea! I’m watching this from the uk, where everything costs the earth. I’m always looking for bike stuff and clothing that is affordable, so liked this. I also enjoy your humour. Happy riding and thanks for the inspiration 👍
Nice work , you can add metal bars and fix them on top or sides of the case to hang other stuff on the case like tent or folded chair or other camping stuff ,
Finally someone else's sees these bike boxes are insane money for something you can buy from a hardware shop.
Video is very applicable to my situation I like the video and your style. But can we just say that cat playhouse is off the hook. Seriously what brand is that. My cats would go nuts with it.
Nice! I also wish for a smaller topcase (current is 50L) mainly for reduced wind resistance. Also would thought you as the guy with thr axe in the toocase :D Few tips: put rubber washers under it too, use loctite threadlock for nuts, maybe use a thin metal plate inside the box so it grabs the box better. Some big bumbs in the road at speed and the box will want to fly away disregarding the 6-8 fixing points.
I used these for the paniers on my KLR with tusk rack, have dropped it numerus times , they don't brake.
I wonder if this would work for an eBike.
Very nice! I have a DeWalt case I was throwing away and decided to restore it and use it as a mountable camera case to store my GoPro cameras and accessories on the luggage rack. I was looking for a solution to clamp it down with quick disconnects. I will figure that out.
What type of quick connect/disconnects did you end up using?
Warren report, Vonnegut.. You're the last of the good guys, back when the world hadn't yet gone completely mad. Looks great. Happy trails!
Thank you, sir. And thanks for watching.
What about if fall down..not broken?! 🔩 Bolt?!
Nice job, thanks for sharing
When those bolts a too long just double nut the end and use it for tie spots for bungees
That's a very good idea. Thanks.
@@MotorbikesAndNonsense They also act as locking nuts.
Thanks for making the video. I've watched a few people do this, and I'm sold. Since I shop for groceries daily after work, I'm going to bolt a $10 wire basket from amazon on top. Just throw my groceries/beer in the basket, bungee it down and go. The basket only weighs a pound or so and I don't think it will impede opening the box. It will definitely impede my ability to get a leg over the bike, so there is that.
Thanks again.
It turned my bike into a grocery getter, too! Thanks for watching.
This is such a cool video, thank you Sir, wish you’d do the MABDR, I’d ride with you! Stay safe and ride on!
So many BDR and so little time! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the video. I subscribed. My brother and i plan to ride the South Dakota BRDX next year. Have you rode any of that?
Thanks for watching and subscribing. I may have ridden some of it unintentionally. I like to wander around the Black Hills. You're going to love it.
Here is Europe there are some very cheap top boxes mine was $70 for a 56L one with lock and mounting plate. Just search for Topcase Rollerkoffer - 56 L =)
Very good.
Probably quick release for removal is one enhancement to consider implementing.
Any thoughts ?
My drill can remove those 6 bolts pretty fast. I haven't found a reason to take it off yet. I would need a considerable amount of fabricating skill or a ready-made solution to make that happen.
@@MotorbikesAndNonsense
Right on.
Going into a hotel room or securing on you / with you, perhaps ?
A person could always have a "dry bag" in there too, to contain all items once arrived, for quick removal.
Very good set up .... the same thand I do with my r1200gs. And now I m gonna do again this with the new bike ktm 790 adv.
I like your sense of humour
Thank you.
and now u cant remove it
If you end up stacking on top of your case and mounting the bike becomes difficult. Watch a you tube vid on cowboy mounting a motorcycle…
nice
Wow great job, i was trying to figure out how to carry on my small tool box on my bike, very inspiring.
very good idea,, looks nice, doing the job no need to spend much money.great 👍.
thanks 🇸🇦🌹
I'd like to see what if you cut it in half and extend the height of the box
With aluminum sheet ...
You have exactly my kind of humor, I find you hilarious!? 🙏🤷🏼♂️😂💪🏼
Thanks! I do enjoy being a silly goose. Thanks for watching.
My box is way bigger by a factor of 4x.
Hauls all my groceries in one trip every couple of weeks.
The Craftsman versa tool box is a good choice if you need something bigger.. it holds around 25 litres, is dust proof and waterproof. The red lid is a safety feature. I sprayed mine gravel grey so it looked less like a tool tote. Suits my Himmi.
Clever low-cost solution, I like it!
Thanks!
Nice job, looks like you're happy, and that's what counts. Still don't like top case, my BMW top case is a storage box I fill with all my GSA gear leftovers, has never seen the road and never will.
I completely understand. I still have some mixed feelings about it. Thanks for watching.
I used the Apache 3800 on my GS310.....thinking about changing to the 4800...for a bit more space.....a really cheap option.
And extremely handy. Thanks for watching.
buena idea,, muy practico y economico
I was looking for the best easy informative video on how to do this. I found it your video was great. Very helpful informative and appreciated. Thank you.
Awesome, thank you!
After 2 years still an awesome video thank you
Thanks for watching.
This keeps me thinking!
Great stuff, I love the motorbikes and the nonsense. You're a riot.
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I just bought the Apache 2800 for my KLR 650 S. I’m attempting install tomorrow.
Nice. It should work great. Take your time. Thanks for watching.
@@MotorbikesAndNonsense if I could send a pic I would , worked great
Hermoso trabajo. Ojala pudiera tener algo asi.
Saludos desde Argentina eres bienvenido Argentina

Thats awesome. Love how clear this was and that you were just a dude having a go and doing a great job.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Tq for share.. I try to diy my box soon..
Thank you for watching.
great imagination. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for watching!
awesome job! Economical and looks really good too.
Thanks for watching. I'm happy it helped.
Smart! Looks great. 😀👍🏻
Thank you!
where do you buy the cover seat
www.alaskaleather.com/
Mine is the "cruiser" model. Thanks for watching.
Very simple, great idea
Thanks for watching.
Do you think it's possible to make side boxes or not?
Absolutely. It would require side-case racks. I've seen Shadetree Surgeon do it on his Dirtster. Caribou Cases makes them using Pelican cases but they are much more expensive. Thanks for watching.
@@MotorbikesAndNonsense maybe if used as a sidebox the waterproof function is reduced, there is a risk of water seeping from the bolt holes?
@@pungkis243 True, however, silicone sealant would probably do the trick.
great video man!
Thanks!
Very nice!
Thanks for watching.
