I feel like we lack adult rom coms, they keep making teen movies with the same storyline. These movies felt personal, they seemed like a personal story that had depth and understanding of some truth.
This scene is my favorite in the whole movie. The emotion is so raw, and it tears at your heart strings so much... You can feel the love she feels for him, and I don't know about you guys but when the boat passes under the bridge, it makes me wanna yell "TELL HIM YOU LOVE HIM!" But then she doesn't, and the sun shines through and metaphorically it's saying she let the moment slip away... We all have been in that boat before, and it's heart breaking. Overall, this is just such a beautiful scene!
I had one moment one moment that I thought I would get again and do the protocol and Circumstance I allowed it to pass me by and it's one of my biggest regrets now I never let anything pass without saying what I feel I should have said I'm probably too intense with it because of that moment that I let past be by but living with that biggest regret when I feel like I should have said something has shaped me for the rest of my life
I say the same thing too!!!! And it’s right after the scene of him admitting that he was jealous of her pretend fiancé. It’s almost like he was saying for her to tell him… tell him she loves him. 😭😭😭 But I’m the end… he chose Kimmy anyways. It was always Kimmy.
That moment when Jules cried and wiped her tears. It gave a lot of emotions: fear, regret, longing, sadness, and most of all, love. They could've had it all. :'(
When he sings, "with each laugh, that wrinkles ur nose" the camera turns and she trying to hide her tears. Beautiful and heartbreaking. Gawd this movie catapulted me back in time...I should've just told him. Now its too late
I was in the same situation. The tears aren’t of “what could’ve been,” otherwise we’d have been together long before. We knew we’d lose the friendship if we tried to make it anything more. The tears are that’ll never be the same. I’ll never be be the one he calls out to and now he has a forever best friend that isn’t me.
It’s right after the scene of him admitting that he was jealous of her pretend fiancé. It’s almost like he was saying for her to tell him… tell him she loves him. 😭😭😭 But I’m the end… he chose Kimmy anyways. It was always Kimmy.
I LOVE this movie. This is so my favorite scene. It is THE most romantic moment in movie history. No sex, no kissing, and not even the couple that gets a happily ever after at the end. Just 2 people who missed their chance and, for a brief, perfect moment, this scene recalls how perfect they had been for each other, what held them back, and how that moment had gone past them. Pretty much, the history of "them" captured in less than 2 minutes. Best understated, silent tears moment, ever!
This movie is a proof that some people are meant to fall in love with each other but not meant to be together. Aw. This movie is unparalleled. Love you Julia forever.
I always cry when I see the love between the two of them in their eyes. Both of them are too afraid to say anything to each other, because of their close friendship. It breaks my heart watching Julia Roberts cry while he sings to her.
This part of the movie have some messages without telling a word, like when they came out from the under bridge (that meant that the moment was gone) and then when Michael smiles just after that moment (because he finally assumes that Juls doesn't love him)... I love this part and I can't not to cry every single time I see it...
Sim.
I always thought he looks at her searchingly to see if she's gonna let the moment pass her by to tell him she loves him... and she does, like always before... and he clenches his jaw a little and smiles without humour because he knew better to expect anything different but he still can't stop hoping. And then he says he and Kimmy don't have a song, subtly indicating they don't have as deep a connection as he does with Jules... with whom he does have a song which he, despite their years apart, still cherishes. And then he sings their romantic "couple" song to her. And then he dances slowly and sweetly with her. Ffs, the man's bending over backwards to give Jules every opportunity to give him a reason to leave Kimmy (which is a dick move, let's admit) for her, and she *just won't take a single one of them.* Not until he finally gives up, because he knows that she's probably never going to let herself be ready to really be with anyone, no matter how much she loves them. Because she obviously loves him a lot, yet still she stays silent. Because she's just too scared. And so he rejects the last-minute plea and stays with the woman who is ready and willing to commit, fairly sane and stable-seeming, and cares for him. I used to think the ending was sweet, showing she'll be able to go on after heartbreak because of a good friend's support (and George is an awesome friend, indeed). But now it looks more like a fluffified romantitragedy... George surprises her by being there to support her at the end, because *he* isn't surprised; he knew she wouldn't take the final steps of being fully open and vulnerable with Michael. And so two people end up heartbroken, and one is played for a fool, and George knows there's nothing to be done about the choices others are making. All he can do is be there, without futile advice or harsh judgement, for his friend. And to try to lift her spirits for at least one evening.
What a great actress Julia Roberts is........ I mean.....there she is.....dying inside trying to say she loves him.....but she lost her opportunity......she's expressing everything in this scene.
I used to think the point of this scene was that Julez missed her chance with Michael, but now I realized it's to show that she was never right for him in the first place. The whole movie we're viewing Kimmy as the obstacle between Jules and Michael, but the real obstacle was actually Jules herself. Here Michael is all but confirming that he feels for her and hints that he knows she loves him. It's like he was gently testing if she was really the one for him, when he says what made our love fail is that we never expressed ourselves. So I need a love that's consuming...where you can't help but express it no matter who's watching. And Jules failed. Michael realized that no matter how he felt about her, she couldn't meet his emotional needs. The contrast to this was the karaoke scene, where Kimmy isn't afraid to sing awfully because she's so consumed by her love for Michael. The sad reality is Jules didn't actually love him, because real love inspires that type of fearlessness. She was just terrified to lose him.
Yea i think its obvious she didnt love him by her letting him wait for 9 years. Noone who loves you eould put you through that much rejection and heartbreak
@@lelelew2735 i think she was just more obsessed with the idea of loving him, plus she was scared and feeling left out when he is moving on with his life aka getting married
@bhagaskevin4231 same i feel she felt exactly that. Kinda scary tho how shes convinced shes in love and believable so imagine if he did pick her, down the line she would loose interest again because she never loved him and have him wondering what he did wrong when he couldve had somebody who loved in unconditionally.
i just die at 1:19 when he says "is that right?" omgggg he's so handsome! i love this movie, this scene depresses me bc i wish they would end up together :(
I love the juxtaposition of this moment - the audience knows that she's mourning the loss of love in this moment, but the kids watching them dance are thinking they are spying on a couple in love. It's a brilliant scene.
I love this movie because it's not the typical ending. but I sooo wanted and alternate ending where he wound up with her. the jealousy he had when he thought she was marrying someone else was amazing.
No special effects, no bloody theatrics, no 3D explosions, just simple dialogue, two people dancing, a man's ad lib song, a woman's tears, and somehow this two minute scene is engrained in my heart... made this movie so special. I miss movies made in this way.
i love this scene so much, the way that he sings -- acoustic with so much emotion... you can tell by their both eyes that they are suffering and letting each other go... this is so sad it makes me cry everytime
My husband used to sing this song to me, and we'd dance. We separated though, and the last time he sang we danced to this song I was crying. I've lived this scene. The worse pain is loving someone who doesn't feel the same anymore.
I remember watching this movie 6 years ago, after midnight, thinking about a guy I'm slowly falling in love with and imagining how could I tell him I actually do love him. "If you love someone, you say it, right then, out loud" and the whole scene, the emotions, the music made me cry so much. I kept on thinking about the way how should I tell im, or if I should tell him at all. I wrote on a piece of paper: "sorry, I love you" and spontaneously threw it in his jacket pocket. We were graduating and going seperate ways after. We both liked similar music, ac/dc as well. We were drinking coffee with our friends and he showed up waring his ac/dc shirt. I frooze- I was so happy. But he didn't even want to look at me, not once. When we were saying goodbyes he told me: "don't worry, about nothing". I kept walking and crying and cursing and overthinking and blaming myself for admitting my feelings for him. I knew he felt something too. I said to myself that I'm not too good for him, but I realized we're just different worlds and that is ok. Sometimes you learn from your dumbest decisions in the most grateful way, and then you see yourself being happy and loving and respecting your own self. That's all it matters. Also he's married to someone now, cheers 🥂
Truly, this movie is one of favorite movie for all the times. Absolute favorite scene in the movie. I watch this movie A LOT, it is in my top 10 of all time, and I cry like everytime at this scene, it is such a romantic moment. I always wonder how it couldve played out if she wouldve used the moment to tell him, instead of letting the moment pass by. It has to be a tough situation though. Ive found it hard to not let the moment pass by even without the fear of breaking off a wedding and its been hard enough just that way. She is so gorgeous in this too.
This movie devastates me. I loved it as a child and I appreciate it even more now. It’s because of this movie that I love to say I love you. What’s the point in not telling the person you love? Tell them how you feel. No point in hiding it. Don’t miss that opportunity. This scene is just so heart wrenching 🥺 Each time I see it, I die inside for her to tell him.
One of the best parts of the movie, gives me chills and makes me cry every time I watch it...best friends, lovers, best friends..been there and still am its hard
This scene hits different when you’re a grown up now and can actually relate.. I definitely thought they both loved each other but they both also knew it would never actually work in reality... two souls longing to go back but know deep down its best to move forward. #classic
Yes.I loved this as a kid and as an adult was in a similar situation. People say she's crying because the loss of what could've been. But she knew they'd always made better friends than lovers. She's crying because things will change like everything in life does whether we're ready or not.
this is the best unhappy ending movie! its been 12 years after this movie, i hope they make a sequel My Bestfriend's Divorce, still with Julia, Cameron and Dylan on it. lol
I’m still mad AF that they didn’t end up together. That aside, what an amazing scene, always brings me to tears. Julia is so convincing here, it’s like you can feel her heart tearing in half.
my favorite scene ever. even a fucking dove flies in the background signifying the begging of the moment, the music, the longing, its all too much yet so subtle and so there. its beautiful and i hold this movie so dearly to my heart i think we can all relate to living in this delusion we've created, making something thats not there or that we didnt notice the end of and we just keep believing in it. god when she finally tells him and its so desperate and pleading, and the absolute crushing feeling both she and us as an audience feels as she realizes, she missed it, she's been grasping at straws. its just so painful
Justo cuando Julia queda de frente a la camara, cuando bailan... a ella se le escapa una lagrima... esta escena vale oro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wow!, no puedo dejar de ver esta pelicula, es de mis favoritas
They make such a handsome couple - he is seriously attractive and she was never lovelier than when she made this film. It is sublime - the moment that passes, just a heartbeat out of sync, and that's it! Their fates are sealed....not to be together :(.
OMG the lump I get in my throat when I watch this is crazy. I think of how it must have felt to see someone you love basically walk away from you and there is no chance he will come back. Sad.
god i'm not one of those people that gets attached to rom coms but i saw this movie accidentally when i was 13 or so and it's just...so beautiful and i cherish it
Still obsessed with this movie in 2020! I first watched this with my mum when I was about 10 and I could feel the sadness of the scene then, I would cry because my mum cried lol. But it’s 10 years later at 20 that I actually understand the complexity of their emotions and now that’s just got me in mourning haha.
When the beautiful heartbreaking background music was played while Michael was singing their song, I couldn’t breathe. It was like having something crushing my heart from the inside, i was mentally bruised, because i know from that moment they lost their love forever..
Imo, he wanted *her* to say something, the something she never admitted all those years : that she loved him and was ready to be with him. But she let the moment pass her by... just like always. But he keeps hoping anyway.
so true great synopsis :) One of my favorite movies too! and it always leaves me wanting more, especially because of this moment, and me wanting Jules to change and embrace him and love.. but she doesn't and it's a bitter end. but a great one!
My favorite movie e scene of all time! I lost the count of how many times I watched this part of the movie... And I cry everytime I see it! hahahahaha Lovely! I love Julia, Dermot and Cameron! Great chemistry! Best movie ever!
i love this scene so much, how they are talking about missed oportunities and at the same time the boat goes under the bridge, the sound goes up and you think she is going to tell him but she doesnt it and they passes the bridge, the missed oportunity.
Man the 90's really knew how to do romantic comedies... I so miss quality romcoms.

wow!, no puedo dejar de ver esta pelicula, es de mis favoritas
They make such a handsome couple - he is seriously attractive and she was never lovelier than when she made this film. It is sublime - the moment that passes, just a heartbeat out of sync, and that's it! Their fates are sealed....not to be together :(.
I miss my mom, this is her favorite movie :
OMG the lump I get in my throat when I watch this is crazy. I think of how it must have felt to see someone you love basically walk away from you and there is no chance he will come back. Sad.
My very favorite romantic scene.. so precious
god i'm not one of those people that gets attached to rom coms but i saw this movie accidentally when i was 13 or so and it's just...so beautiful and i cherish it
THIS BOAT SCENE PHYSICALLY HURTS ME EVERY TIME
The BEST scene in Filmography!!!
ESTA PELICULA PUEDO VERLA MIL VECES.. Y LAS MIL VECES LLORO EN ESTA PARTE...
How can his voice be so attractive
allthough he says goodbye in the end...
I'm in love with him too, he's so cute:)
He IS the sexiest man in the world...... ( even now! )
I love this scene... Always make me cry, it's so real
I love the way he sings the song, its been in my head for days. i wish it i could listen to him singing it fully like that.
One of my favourite scene ever!! Thanks
Lovely... no matter how many times I see this film I always want to Julianne and Michael end up together
this is my favorite movie and scene
most memorable romantic scenes of all time
Memories of dreams on a red decker bus. I love this movie.
Kimmy says if you love someone you say it, you say it right then, out loud. Otherwise, the moment just...
Passes you by.
Passes you by. Yeah.
AND IT FUCKING PASSED BY JUST RIGHT THERE
Still obsessed with this movie in 2020!
I love this movie.. especially this part ='/
I say the same! Yesterday I watch it again! And cry again!!!
You think it's just something romantic or sad but it has some much other meanings. Only a few of us see it.
this scene is so sad.
the way he DOESN'T look at her at 0:24, the way she must feel being so close yet so far from the man she loves :*(
It's June 12, 2019, but why do I still cry watching this scene? 😭
I also love how intricate the camera work was: notice at :10 when Michael talks about the moment passing you by, a dove flies behind Julianne. :')
During the moment that passed by, did he want to say something too? It seemed like he kind of knew there was a moment when they were under the bridge.
Imo, he wanted *her* to say something, the something she never admitted all those years : that she loved him and was ready to be with him.
But she let the moment pass her by... just like always. But he keeps hoping anyway.
Vim pelo The Stories e posso dizer com certeza que essa cena é de derreter o coração, que amor!!
so true great synopsis :) One of my favorite movies too! and it always leaves me wanting more, especially because of this moment, and me wanting Jules to change and embrace him and love.. but she doesn't and it's a bitter end. but a great one!
I love this scene, is one of my favorites :)
This part makes me cry so much. The fact that she can’t admit to him or herself that she loves him
This is my favorite scene! I really love this scene!
Brilliant scene. This is pure raw emotion. More like the one that got away.
the way she's looking at him, I wonder how many emotions can she express with a single glance
This part makes me cry every time. Classic ❤
My favorite movie e scene of all time! I lost the count of how many times I watched this part of the movie... And I cry everytime I see it! hahahahaha
Lovely! I love Julia, Dermot and Cameron! Great chemistry!
Best movie ever!

gets me bawling every single time....
and I've always thought that he was so fine... his singing and talking voice just makes me melt like why
I didn't replay this several times to hear him sing and have a cry!!! Why would you even think that 🤷🏻♀️
i love this scene so much, how they are talking about missed oportunities and at the same time the boat goes under the bridge, the sound goes up and you think she is going to tell him but she doesnt it and they passes the bridge, the missed oportunity.
