Rupert Everett made this movie so memorable! The say a little prayer scene was perfect!
One of my favorite romcoms to this day. Love the male and female leads. Such chemistry! My favorite part is the singing of "I Say A Little Prayer". Just fantastic! ❤❤❤

It gave us two developed and compelling felon leads who happened to be in competition versus the obvious trope of the older woman blindly hating the cuter younger one who was an obviously inferior character who should be actively routed against for so being...And the fact that Camerons career excelled following this movie reinforces that as it ages imo

I love George's role. Such a scene stealer, he also had great chemistry with Jules. I also thought that they'd be together as lovers, that he was pretending to be gay just to be close with Jules. But it's so heartbreaki g that he's a gay. Dangg! Every scene in him was so funny hahaha
I heard it hurt him professionally in real life, as it was not easily accepted back then as it is today if you are gay.
@@rvpstudioscanada3991 Such a shame that coming out as gay kept Rupert Everett from getting the role of James Bond. He had the looks, accent. charm, height and the talent. Still, Everett has lived his best, authentic life.
In the 1960's, that is how Hollywood would have been handled the situation in a Doris Day-Rock Hudson movie. Loved this 1990's handling of the issue.

One of my favourite movies. Cameron Diaz sure changed here compare to 2 years prior on her film debut in The Mask.
But she played a nightclub singer in the Mask so why would karaoke bother her when she had that experience?

I do love this movie! I remember seeing on a cruise with my family when I was 14. My poor hormone-riddled teenage body couldn't handle it; I cried for the next 3 hours! I literally cried all through dinner with my family afterwards. Haha!

One of my most favourite films ever, seen it many times and never tire of watching. Casting was perfect too. Loved the whole film but the karaoke scene and final scene with George were my favourite. Loved Rupert’s character George. Would love to see a part two. Hopefully with none of them dead like in Mamma Mia - Here We Go Again.

Still my favorite movie ever
Oh yes. That was great. They should have a My Best Friend’s Divorce. Michael and Kimmy’s kids call up Julian to help them stop their parents from splitting up. Julian has a fiancé (played by Brad Pitt) who she loves desperately, but is reluctant to marry. One of The kids, 20 & 22 years old is about to get married, and they beg their most infamous aunt to help. George is there, trying to talk sense into her about NOT marrying Brad. He also has two tweens in tow, causing him grief too. And in the end Kimmy and Michael reconcile, and Kimmy is the one who talks Julian into making the leap and marrying Brad. We end with a beach wedding.
The movie was perfect as it was but I thought that Something About Mary came out first. I thought Cameron Diaz was already famous.
One thing I've noticed about Ms. Mojo is that they always credit whichever movie or show is their topic that week, with launching the actors into stardom. And usually it's not really true. The actors were on their way up, and each movie is a stepping stone. It bugs me, too.
My Best Friend's Wedding came out a year before Something About Mary. Her first movie was The Mask and then she did some smaller films in between The Mask and My Best Friend's Wedding.
I personally dont really consider My best friends wedding to be Cameron Diaz's "break out " role.
I consider The mask to be that in 94 However I can't remember any huge moves she did in between 94-97 except for a movie where she played Harvey Keitels wife in a TV movie called "Head above water" and a few other lesser known roles. I'm guessing "My best friends wedding is what solidified her as a star and gave her the boost she needed to be recognized to a wider audience
you missed a big one, the way she took the ring off her finger was completely different originally. Originally, at the luncheon scene, when she tried it on and couldn't get it off, they went to the kitchen to solicit help from the chef who tell julia roberts to 'come here', she walks towards his vat of LARD to dunk her hand, she gets scared, he says "come on ya big baby", she dunks her hand and screams, they left that out

My Best Friends Wedding 2: Michael & Kimmy are struggling to stay together after the kids move out and Julia Roberts saves the marriage. Maybe an old flame of Kimmy’s enters the picture and now he is driving the wedge since they are already fighting. 🤔

I wish Julianne was not so self deprecating.
She was the one Michael always wanted but she was hesitant, reserved; not letting go but not holding on either. Cameron Diaz’s character was convenient for him to marry because Julianne us inaccessible, independent and non-committal.
Well, it would be such a waste to not use Rupert's great comedic timing. The ending we saw was a lot better.

Cameron Diaz really carried the role to the tee...so brittle and bipolar. I think the movie tend to be everlasting because it seem so realistic for the screenplay, you'd have met many determined like Julia, there's gay everywhere and the lead actor was sort of stoic ... it happens everyday. The relatives was sort of standing there to celebrate... and they couldn't sniff these background 'dramas'. Gosh they even don't know that George is, gay!
