There is a little missing from the beginning of this particular recording. This is in the middle of a rock concert similar to what you heard before, and everybody is loud and involved. The band takes a break, the lights come down, a music box recording of a melody plays (the song after this one "Anemone"); you heard the last few notes. The lights come back up; you heard a few hoots from the audience. And they play this. There is no feeling in music like having a whole room full of people all holding their breath together, where no one wants to break the spell.
On the crowd being so quiet, it's a matter of having respect for a beautiful song. In Japan, there's a much higher level of politeness. Here, they're loving it but they are also listening intently with respect to the performer. I have to say, I'd love to see this band in Japan, without looking over a sea of people with their cell phones over their heads. But I'm an old, ex-musician.
There are most likely two reasons why you could here a pin drop in that audience. 1. Simply a sign of respect for the Artist - People who find and listen to Band-Maid's Music tend to build a bond with this Band that goes beyond the Music. Prior to the opening of the song there is a Heartbreaking Music Box intro of the song Anemone which leads the audience to instinctively settle down, pay attention and listen. I recall the first time seeing this (via UA-cam, not even live) I barely let out a breath. Literally breathtaken. 2. The Crowd was Simply just Stunned - This performance is from Zepp Tokyo, a concert that in part due to this set, has gone on to become an Iconic piece of Band-Maid's folklore. To my knowledge there is no footage of this version recorded before or since. So the unsuspecting crowd was hearing this song, performed this way, for the first time ever. What you're hearing, or should I say not hearing, is the sound of a few thousand people being mind blown. Then the Icing on this Tasty Cake, fans got to clearly see and hear Kanami's Angelic voice alongside Saiki's (Again to my knowledge I believe for the first time) Which fans continue to look forward to, even to this day and is a delicious ear treat that is rarely served.
For me..one of the best musical performances I have ever heard. Shame most reactors miss out the accompanying track.."Anemone"....I adore this band....They are something very special....So much more than just a band...The only band to make me fly to the other side of the world (from UK) to see LIVE.....Twice.....Long May They Reign!👑
The emotions of the rock version are anger, rage at her situation, the acoustic's emotions are sadness and desperation. All over loving a person who you can never be with completely.
Hiya! Don't kid yourself that Japanese crowds are quiet, because they certainly are not! Trust me they can be wild! Here they are being respectful, and they had no idea that the band were going to do this song acoustically, it came as quite a surprise. In the other version of "Puzzle" the crowd were quiet because it was still under covid restrictions, wearing masks and told not to sing. I've seen Band-Maid four times in Japan and the crowd were LOUD! Plus I attended a Punk gig there, it was as raucous as anything in the West. It was mayhem! You will see when you check out other live performances by these ladies, the crowd are part of the show.
Nice reaction and I think the silence is more that (as far as I know) this was a first for the band and unexpected and the audience was stunned. Also, from what I've seen, Japanese audiences tend to be very respectful of artists.
Band Maid did a similar mid concert acoustic duo in a prior year tour. Very rare footage. Only seen it a few times. Not included on the Blu-ray, very sadly.
Brilliant choice to contrast the big, aggressive sound of the full electric version with this rearranged, stripped down acoustic. In my humble opinion, these two versions remind me of Clapton’s “Layla.” The performances are as wildly different as they could be, but both versions are strong enough to stand alone. Next? “Moratorium,” live. You’re welcome 😉
The 2021 Christmas acoustic concert featured various lineups through the 14 songs, duo, trio and full band. The setup was Saiki or Miku on lead vocals, 2 acoustic guitars, electric bass, 'acoustic' drums' using rodsticks and 1 song using a Cajon. 2 songs from that concert are on their channel, Sayonakidori (Nightingale) featuring Miku on lead vocals with Akane on drums and Misa on bass and Catharsis , full band with Saiki on lead vocals.
bandmaid has done some songs as acoustic during select live performances but they are rare. they did record an acoustic performance and gave it to us as a Christmas present 2 years ago (it is available on prime) and are playing their first acoustic concert with audience in march 2024. a lot of their live recordings dont have audience mic's its a bit sad but its just how they do it over there sadly
What ever different version of a Band-Maid song you react to, there will always be plenty to talk about. This is from the Zepp concert 2018. There is a complete acoustic concert from 2022. This Zepp crowd was a noisy as hell. They are quiet for this in respect of it being acoustic and the beautiful vocals. So many fans loved this, leading to the full acoustic concert with all the members of the band. Finally- In this, Saiki's voice takes priority over guitar solos.
Hi from France: Totally agree with you. The silence of the crowd comes from listening with the heart and respect for these two very sensitive artists... This version of Puzzle is pure emotion, especially when you know the lyrics...
One of the few times Kanami sings. She doesn't like to, which is strange for a singer songwriter, but she took lessons, so she wouldn't be a bad singer when she had to sing.

Well said Kid. Well said.
Yes, growing up is an arduous task, and I'm so glad i decided to forgo it.

Sayonakadori Live version and live acoustic would be something I think you would be interested in.
only recommendation for bandmaid is literally pick a song at random.. you cant go wrong
Their website is worth subscribing to. It has playthroughs of basically every song and every pro shot concert.

No matter what venue or band format, Band-Maid always brings something unexpected and special to the eyes and ears... and heart! 💝🎀 Thx, EI J!
Kanamincho and the Thawed Princess Kanamincho and the Thawed Princess Kanamincho and the Thawed Princess!

Akane did the backing vocals for the nightingale. She has a lovely voice!
Not to critique but to inform. Not a maid cafe band but a band of maids.😁
