  • This is a short edit of some footage that I captured of a Selasphorus hummingbird yet to be identified (at least by me). This winter has been pretty good for overwintering hummingbirds in the SE and well up into the Eastern Seaboard with documented occurrences of Rufous and Calliope, among others. Birds like this often go identified only to genus because it's so difficult to make a firm determination of species without getting the bird in hand. This video, however, combined with extracted audio will probably help us figure it out pretty soon. For the moment, though, I only have a strong suspicion of which species this bird is and I will withhold that for the sake of keeping the discussion wide open.
