    The tourists in Glasgow need to start travelling down the west coast regularly,instead of hopping over to Edinburgh all the time!
    The 1 hour bus journey to Largs via Greenock is spectacular!

      The bus is a good shout. Must try that route, cheers. 😀

      Occasionally when driving from the west side of Glasgow back home to Ayr I've been tempted to drive down that way if I've had the time because it is so spectacular! Unfortunately spare time is rare but it is such a lovely part of the world it deserves to be seen and visited more!

    There is a 7 km short walk from the ferry on a good road, hardly any cars, over the top of the island (Glaid Stone at 125 meters above sea level) down to Millport which is simply one heck of a nice walk with fantastic views, 360 degrees. A favorite among locals and a stunner. Great video, btw. The 901 bus from Largs all around the cost back to Glasgow has been voted the second best coastal journey in the UK, btw. I therefore take the train to Largs, do the Glaid stone walk and the 901 bus back again. A nice day out doon the vater. Btw. I absolute love this island and coastline who has and is adding tons of joy to my life.

    Should definitely go on the Waverley paddle steamer. The fantastic engine room, is worth the fare itself.

    I had a boss in the 80s who was a regular in Millport. He called it his idyllic holiday island, just 3 hours flying time from Majorca.

      @@RogEdwardsTV Btw there is one shorter ferry ride just 20 km away... Rhubodach to Colintraive (also CalMac) which I have clocked to 2 minutes and 40 seconds. That ferry has no cafe, btw.

    I loved the way the dog got distressed at your singing! The last time I was in Largs I was visiting a friend and the queue for the ferry traffic was wrapped half way round the surrounding streets. That was in the summer a few years back, but your trip on a beautiful October day looked ideal - bright and peaceful!

    • @RogEdwardsTV
      @RogEdwardsTV  3 місяці тому +2

      Yeah I imagine the demand is high in summer. I think they run two ferries which should mean there’s one every 15 minutes or so! ⛴️

      @@RogEdwardsTVthey do. I remember being in Largs with my gran when I was young and being obsessed with watching the two ships zip back and forth! The tradition is to cycle round the whole island! Being relatively flat and not too long it can be done by people of many ages and abilities. So maybe Campbeltown is the next on your list? Or the Waverley!

    Great vlog, Roger, of Largs and ferry trip over to Millport, crossing the Largs Channel. Have visited Largs many times, although it's been many years since I was in Millport. A great little town, and of course, the "Crocodile Rock". Next time in Largs, walk along the promenade, the other way, and you'll come to the "Pencil", monument, highlighting the 1263 Battle of Largs. Another great day, weather wise, for your trip. Nice one! 😊 👍

      Cheers, Alan. I wanted to walk to the Pencil Monument, and further to the marina, but there wasn’t enough time. Probably should have stayed the night and explored more. 😀

    I would highly recommend a trip on the Waverley, especially the sailing she does from Glasgow down to the Kyles of Bute (another fantastic one is Gravesend to London, passing under Tower Bridge at night which was just brilliant!). I would not however highly recommend the Blue Lagoon...they're a chain and they took over my local chippy, and it pales in comparison. Some Gin recommendations I can make are: All of the gins from North Uist distillery (actually on Benbecula) - I did a tour there and all their gins are beautiful; Arrochar Alps (not made on an island, but in Helensburgh); and Rock Rose (again, not on an island, but made in the northernmost distillery on the mainland, all the way up at Dunnet!). And if you're ever up at Plockton there's a wee distillery in the village there, with a shop stocking specialty gins and whiskies.
