Jesus Lizard was my first concert ever; as a kid; at First Ave in Minneapolis! My Dad is kinda cool😁 Great band, David Yow is one of the best frontmen there ever was and ever will be!
CBGB was a great space. The audience was right up there next to the stage. Speakers were very loud. Bathroom was disgusting. Smelled terrible. Rocked hard every night. There will never be another.
Saw them perform live, this same year or else ‘93, I think, but in Chicago … probably at the Metro? (then still called the Cabaret Metro) … and to this day - and I saw nearly everyone good from the ‘90s, except Nirvana, perform live and often up-close, and all the teensy now-forgotten bands too, and I saw loads of bands both major and minor throughout the ‘80s and ‘00s, as well - the Jesus Lizard stand out as the most memorable, surreal, visceral show ever!! My favorite part? Mid-show, Yow stops the music, asks that the house lights be brought up, says “My wedding ring fell off, you guys have to look around and find it!” and for two, three minutes, 3/4 of the room’s on their hands and knees, on the sticky beer-soaked floor, searching for a ring. Then Yow announces “Oh, I found it!” and holds up … something? nothing? … to this day I don’t know, but the lights go back down, and the show re-commences, and the Jesus Lizard go on kicking the audience’s ass for a full further hour! But did he really misplace his ring and get it back? Or did he just feel like watching the audience crawl around on all-fours for a couple of minutes? Who knows?? 🤷🏼♂️🦎🤘🏼
Maybe I am remembering a different show but I recall that happening at the Vic in 94 or 95 and in fact a guy did find the ring 20 or so rows back and it got passed up to Yow who was back on stage at that point. And then they got back at it immediately.
I'm friends with them and was at that show as well with his wife(they're no longer married). Yes, he really lost and found his ring. Also on that night he was wearing one of her bathing suits under his clothes which she didn't know and she was PISSED!!! Needless to say it got ripped to shreds in seconds! Epic show and I was at too many to count.
i got to see him with flipper. for no reason whatsoever he came up to me, rubbed my hair, and covered my eyes with his hands. then he walked back to the PA.
Saw them live for the first time a couple of months after this: King Tut's in Glasgow, Scotland, 23rd October 92. Still maybe the best gig I've ever been to.
One of the best early 90s bands..never saw scratch acid but sure similar. Every opportunity in Atlanta and Athens at the time was at JL show...great live band
U got that right. I think of ALL the shows I traveled to, but always thought, what if I was a little older so I could've possibly seen the great older shows by great bands. One band that comes to mind is Skinny Puppy. If I was born just a few years earlier I could've caught their 90TooDarkPark tour and 92Last Rights tour, along w a bunch of other tours. I did get to see em when they regrouped in 04,and 09,11I believe
@joeyx666 - Thanks for the upload!!! I saw the Jesus Lizard live many times, but unfortunately no shows earlier than 1993, so this time machine trip back to 1992 is great both for nostalgia and for discovery… the Jesus Lizard more-or-less as I remember them from the ‘90s, but with a ‘92 David Yow who’s got the teensiest bit more hair than in ‘93 and beyond. 😉 Thank you, thank you, THANK you!! 🤟🏼❤️🦎
Saw 'em the night before at Maxwell's, usually better show there in Hoboken: smaller and people more chill. This night ay CB's looked electric though I gotta say
this is amazing. i saw jesus lizard for the first time last night. more than 30 years since this footage was shot. they are still amazing. how did you get this footage if you didn't take it yourself?
Nope. Par~Boiled. You forgot the 3~5 BOILERMAKERS, PRE-Shows! I know. I was Staniers 🥁tech on this MEANTIME you LIAR Tour. We ended on this night & i worked for them instead. BESTEST flight bump to Portland, evah! Nuff said... Cheerce
@@mattmullens3215 Okay so you tell me what sound Nirvana was trying to emulate. Listen to Scratch Acid's First EP (1984): ua-cam.com/video/OvM9xJjgHgI/v-deo.html and consider Kurt Cobain's top 50 albums list (which you can Google; Scratch Acid's First EP is no.8). Once Nirvana eclipsed, in popularity, David Yow's band (who was the lead singer of Scratch Acid and then at the time of eclipse, Jesus Lizard), Nirvana had them open for a lot of their shows, out of Kurt's love, admiration, and respect for them. Consider also the split single they (Nirvana/Jesus Lizard) did together: ua-cam.com/video/MmYBfb6C8CE/v-deo.html . It is quite clear that if Scratch Acid and Jesus Lizard (basically David Yow) never existed, Nirvana would sound totally different. Which is another way of saying Scratch Acid (and Jesus Lizard, but fundamentally David Yow) influenced Nirvana, and specifically Kurt Cobain. Your honor, I rest my case.
Derpa•Derpa•Doodle... No 🎶Music? No Bands like these... being on this Tour, Hanging out w/em as Road~Brethren and Witnessing IT.... 55+ times?! Definitely not sucking. Cheerce
The ability it takes to be this chaotic whilst staying that tight is off the scale

I just don't think that there's any way you could walk away from watching that performance and not think it was amazing.
Today, nobody understands this kind of music anymore......I saw them live in the early 90´s and I loved them.

AHhh - my brother and I were at that show - absolutely fantastic. One of my favorite rhythm sections ever.
Touch and go had the best bands, ever

Ricky Tenderkiss yow is one of the most intense frontmen ever

Funny you mention Nirvana. This was one of Kurt's favorite bands. These guys are no joke live. One of the best I've ever seen

Every concert of Jesus Lizard is great, but that night they were really on fire. Holy shit!

Did everybody here get your hats back?
he still does that at shows, always cracks me up
Pretty sure he is picking on some meatheads he didn't like the look of
The Gods .....

I just undid the stabilization. Sorry about that, this is all kind of new to me, so I'm not sure what looks good.

@@zeppelinfan82 Personally, I could do without his steambag body dry-humping the entire crowd. Still funny-from a distance.
I saw him drink 9 Bud in a bottle in probably an hour at the Khyber Pass in Philly on this tour.

Remember: no Jesus (Lizard), no Nirvana.
That's the biggest load of puke I've ever heard.
