My Dad was a logger. I was driving a John Deer skidder at 12 years old it was my summer job until I was 15. Then my dad was killed in the woods. He had a widow maker snap off, and he was hit by it. Freak accident ,could have been me been me but I was in Quebec on a school trip or I would have been there. It was April vacation. I came home and he was gone at 34 years old I was 15 now I am 57. I love the woods but loggin wasn't what Mom wanted me to do. She sold both skidders, that were both already paid for. Dad was doing good for back then he would have done well I believe. What would I be doing? That's one thing I will always wonder. Worked in the woods for two years after before going to vocational school. For other people. Didn't like it back then. I wish I would have kept one of the skidders. Honest hard working people I believe loggers are.. Thanks for your videos. they always take me back to 1978. Miss ya Dad.
Your welcome, I'm glad my videos can bring you back to that time you and your father shared. A stark reminder of the dangers for the logger. Thanks for sharing that.
I am saddened by your and your family's loss. Must have been horrible for your mother also. I know what it is like to be hit by a freak tree in the woods - in the winter and alone, and have 30 assorted pieces of metal in me and some permanent muscle and nerve damage from that experience (December 2004, in Alberta). Still logging part-time at 68. I can cut or skid for about 4-5 hours at a time, then I'm done and have to wait for another day.
again another great vid. thank you for taking the time and effort to film the way you do. its almost could be a how to log video. also thank you for not putting music to it, like the natural sound. like the older well taken care of johndeer, love the older stuff.thanks again, paul
had a 440 gas job p ulled a lot of wood with the old girl mostly 4ft softwood pulp ,some big hardwood, had a deliming gate built just backem through and go to landing

I’m very sorry about the loss of your father. I lost my best friend to a freak accident in the woods. Never easy.

You're welcome Paul.
Logging is hard work but it gets in your blood!! Great video
Nice to see that the ground is looking like winter!
I've been there, done that. Limbing is necessary but time-consuming, and your videos (adding to the work day) are excellent!
Definitely not your first rodeo. Love this stuff. Alot of people know how hard it was.
My family work at howland maine caribou ,portage lake, clayton lake and North maine wood 😊
You do great work. Stay safe out there! Ol John Deere seems to be doing good for ya!

That sounds like a nice setup!
I'm guessing the gas job was not JD original.
Superb video, especially your delimbing method.
The Real Deal ! Thanks for sharing !
You're welcome.

Logging makes one all warm and fuzzy.
Yes! Another one of life's mysteries.
Very nice work.
I remember we used to reverse the fan so it blew heat out by your feet if it wasn't reversed it was a cold day. Nn
